An Accounting degree from Hull provides the essentialtools that you need for a career as an accountant, or in amore general management role where financial skillsand knowledge can be vital in making critical decisions.

The emphasis of your degree is on gaining skills that willbenefit you in the modern business environment, and, aspart of this, your degree provides the maximumexemptions from the examinations of all the professionalaccountancy bodies.

Our graduates follow a variety of paths, enteringprofessional contracts with local, national andinternational organisations; finding employment inbanks, chartered accountancy firms, not-for profitorganisations and public and private bodies; orcontinuing their studies.

StructureThe first year gives you a broad grounding in corebusiness subjects, including accounting and finance,providing a solid foundation for more specialised studyin Years 2 and 3.

You will study the two main streams of accounting –financial reporting and management accounting – andlearn how to generate and utilise information forinternal and external use. You will gain advanced skillsas you progress through the course, with opportunitiesto explore the areas of auditing and taxation.

This course is ideal for those who want to be able tothink and analyse problems like an economist, and atthe same time have an appreciation of how this way ofthinking can be applied to real-world problems – such ascompetition in food retailing and supermarkets, and themovement of job seekers across countries.

The course delivers an education in core business skillswhile also providing knowledge of the fundamentals ofeconomics. It equips you either to pursue further studyor to enter professions where economic understanding isvaluable: in the City, in government or in the widerbusiness world.

This degree equips you for a management career in avariety of sectors and industries. Its focus is on thedevelopment of contemporary management knowledge,preparing you for the challenges of operating in a fast-paced business environment. This degree provides you with the skills to harnessmodern technologies in the workplace, helping you tobecome a key figure in driving change, raising standardsand streamlining operations in any organisation. Ourgraduates go on to a range of rewarding and challengingcareers, some related directly to IT in the workplace andothers in general management.

You explore computer software used in the modernbusiness environment and consider issues such as high-quality business documentation and communicationand business graphics. As you grow into an economist on this course, you willbe able to apply a new way of thinking to analyse bothday-to-day problems and globally significant issues suchas house prices, taxes and Third World debt.

The Economics degree cultivates an attractivecombination of skills, and their experience of using dataand building reasoned verbal arguments allowsgraduates to take advantage of good employmentprospects and high earnings potential. Our Financial Management degree allows you tounderstand how financial and management informationis used to make vital decisions that can make or break acompany. After finishing my A levels, havingalready studied business for fouryears, I wanted to study from adifferent perspective. That’s whyI chose International Business,which looks at the subject in aglobal context.The last three years have beenextremely enjoyable and exciting.The knowledge and supportprovided by the lecturers hasbeen exceptional. Lectures andseminars are motivating andstimulating, and a variety ofother teaching techniques areused – with opportunities toresearch multinationalorganisations and see how theyoperate in a global market. Andall the time you’re making friendswith other students, includingsome from different culturalbackgrounds.University life is not just aboutlectures and seminars. I’ve beena Student Ambassador for threeyears at the ScarboroughCampus, which is an importantand enjoyable role. The mainfunction is to conduct campustours and show potential newstudents around, answering anyquestions they have aboutuniversity and providing aninsight into what university is allabout. StructureThe first year introduces you to the study of managementand organisational behaviour. You can also study organisationallearning and knowledge management, including humanresource management and public-sector management.
