In this course, we will analyze the forces that drive organizations to change, examine impediments to change, and survey a range of approaches for making organizational change more effective. This course will develop your understanding of change processes and provides practical skills for managing and leading change. COURSE MATERIALS: Text #1: Switch - How to change things when change is hard ISBN- 978-0-385-52875-7 Text #2: ADKAR: a Model for Change in Business, Government and our Community : How to Implement Successful Change in our Personal Lives and Professional Careers ISBN- 1930885504 COURSE OBJECTIVES: Learning to apply course material to improve thinking, problem solving and decisions in challenging situations Acquiring and interest in learning more by asking questions and seeking answers Understanding what drives change within organizations, communities, and individuals Acquiring knowledge to implement change using the ADKAR model Become a change agent GRADING: 1. Attendance and Participation (12 Classes (no counting class#1) X 3% each) 36% 1.1. Each class, we will break into groups to discuss the chapter we read from Switch. 2. Journal Writing (12 total – each worth 3% each) 36% 2.1. You will write in your journal within Blackboard. Only you and I will be able to see what you write. I would like you to reflect on a change you are going through, have been through, or plan to go through. You will reflect on that change after each chapter in ADKAR. 3. Final Paper 28% 3.1. Specific details and expectations will be provided separately; however, this paper will be done individually and will be due during Finals Week.
