ENROLMENTS

It is that time of year when schools are commencing

preparation for the following year and student

numbers are critical to the school’s staffing

structure. For many of you it must seem very early

in the year, but for schools it is imperative that we

have knowledge of numbers for staffing and other

resources. I would ask you to please complete the

required Student Admission Enrolment Form if you

intend enrolling your child at Burwood Heights

Primary School in 2017. This form is available

from the main office or on the school’s website. It

can be forwarded by mail if requested.

TRANSITION YEAR SIX TO YEAR SEVEN

PLACEMENTS

.

I ask that the Transition Applications be returned to

the school by Friday 13th

May.

You will be notified of the outcome of your

application by Wednesday 10th

August.

THE WRITINGS OF PETER LE RAY

“WRIGGLING WORMS AND IMPATIENT

PIGEONS”

One late afternoon in the school garden,

when the chooks were on their roosts getting ready

for a long sleep, a Helmut pigeon flew down from

the gum tree to scratch about on the ground. She

hoped to find some seed which the chickens had not

found.

At the same time a wee worm was popping

it’s head up out of the dark cool, moist, compost

heap hoping to find some fresh kitchen scraps. The

pigeon saw the worm and hopped over to it. Worm

was very afraid because chickens eat worms and so

he began to quickly pull his head back under the

soil.

“Wait, wait”, chirped the pigeon, “don't

disappear, I will not eat you, I promise, I just want

talk to you”. “What” cried the worm, “those other

birds always try to eat us worms.” “I am not a

worm eater” said the pigeon, “ I would rather eat

grains and seeds”. “Oh really, are you being honest,

can I trust your words,” muttered the worm. “I

promise” chirped the pigeon.

“Mm..okay..I will come back up and talk

with you then, what do you want to talk about,” said

the worm. “Well.” chirped the pigeon, “ I want to

know about the world that you live in. You see I

live mostly in the air, I fly everywhere at speeds up

to eighty kilometres an hour. I can fly nine hundred

kilometres in one day if I want to and I can fly as

high as one and a half kilometres up into the sky.

When I need a rest I grab hold onto a trees branch

and even sleep there, I sometimes see you pop your

head up from under the soil and so I wanted to meet

you.

“Oh, oh” said the worm, “ gee I am not used

to talking with a bird, how wonderful it must be to

fly so high and so far and so fast and see so much of

the world. My goodness I can only feel what is right

in front of me, I eat my way through the soil. I have

to eat the weight of my body in soil and dead plants

everyday” ….........................to be continued.
