Practice Overview
The health of Planet Earth is a major concern for governments, businesses and communities. According to the UNEP’s Global Environmental Outlook-4, human society is using the
world’s resources unsustainably, degrading farmland and fisheries, rivers and forests – and risks a significant weakening of the global economy if this is not addressed.
Climate change could reduce economic growth by 5%-20% by 2100 if left unchecked.
During this century, we need a fundamental change in the relationship between resource use (especially energy), economic activity and society.
The business world will face new challenges and increasingly be required to operate in a binding framework that limits environmental impacts.
The transition to sustainable commerce will take decades – yet NGOs, many consumers and a growing band of politicians are impatient for action (and believe change can be achieved quickly and without additional cost).
Effective communication to stakeholders and especially governments is critical to ensure a policy environment that continues to encourage innovation and profitable commercial growth.
Burson-Marsteller’s Energy, Environment & Climate Change practice works across Europe and the Middle East with clients large and small who are seeking to navigate difficult issues or bring new technologies to market.
