Getting Ready for School

•Health forms must be received by the Fairfield Public Schools Health office AND reviewed by Burr’s School Nurse - Joan Miller (203-255-7389)

•Purchase a BIG backpack, lunch box, and Velcro sneakers.

•Have your child practice: 1) Putting their lunch bag in the backpack and bringing both on daily errands. 2) Opening their lunch bag and all containers. 3) Cleaning up after lunch independently and putting their lunch box in their backpack. 4) Putting their backpack and lunch bag in a ‘special spot” at home.”

•Establish daily routines and sleep patterns for school. Wake up by 7:30AM. (Breakfast, brush teeth, get dressed.) Start bedtime routine by 6:30PM (Bath, clothes for next day, read, light’s out by 7:30PM)

•Start routines 2 weeks before school starts.

Some Final Thoughts

•We work to meet the needs of all kindergarten students – wherever they are in their development.

•Kindergarten is a balance between learning academic skills and learning social skills.

•Kindergarten is a balance between learning core foundational skills and developing higher level thinking skills.

•You are our partners and play a key role in your child’s growth and development.
