We all love to look round other people’s homes, and no self-guided open-house tour is more popular than Vancouver Heritage Foundation’s famous
annual Heritage House Tour, which is coming up this Sunday, June 5.
Now in its 14th year, this self-guided tour always reveals gems of architecture and design from around the city, many of which have been lovingly restored and renovated.
According to the VHF, the nine homes on the 2016 Heritage House Tour off er “an incredible collection of sto-ries, impressive architecture and creative design ideas.”
Visitors will be able to look inside three fabulous estate homes built for Vancouver’s elite, one of which has been fully renovated, one of which is well-maintained and has expansive gardens, and the fi nal one is now on the
verge of redevelopment. The third of these is historic South West Marine Drive estate home WilMar – off ering participants a rare chance to view it in its current state, untouched for almost a decade and unfurnished.
Also on show is the unique Barber Residence, built in 1936 and one of the city’s few examples of Art Moderne architecture in a residential property.
And VHF tells us how art has been integrated into some of the homes on the tour. One heritage home owner has used their collection of Asian and African artwork and furnishings to blend seamlessly with an almost entirely untouched 1913 Craftsman home, whereas another home features a wonderful collection of modern work.
Join VHF for this one-day, self-guided fundraising event, with all proceeds going to VHF’s educational pro-gramming and grants.
