outside the Parish so there is now a vacancy for the position Previous

experience is desirable but not essential This will involve keeping financial

records and attending PCC meetings every two months The present

Treasurer is happy to help with a gradual handover if required

Dear Friends Now that Irsquove been working in Burham and Wouldham for a few months I would

like to say thank you for the very warm welcome and the kindness I have received

both from church members and in the schools pubs community groups and from

people who live in the parish I have been familiar with the beautiful countryside

here through cycling to my previous job at the hospice and through walking the

dog on the riverbank and ridge and itrsquos very good now to be able to get to know

people who live here

At this stage Irsquom still observing and getting to know what goes on in the church

and the wider community I donrsquot believe in change unless there are good reasons

and it would be wrong for someone new to rush to make any changes

But I have after careful discussion with church members introduced one change in

the pattern of worship which I would like to draw your attention to We now have a

service of Holy Communion every Sunday in All Saints Church Why have we

done this Because Holy Communion is the central act of Christian worship In this

service we recall the last supper Jesus had with his friends He shared bread and

wine with them He spoke of the bread and wine as his body and blood He asked

them to continue to do this to remember him And so we do continue to remember

that great love which our Lord showed in his suffering and death and also to

celebrate his resurrection As we do that we are fed by God and strengthened in our

fellowship with each other We are also encouraged to look outside of ourselves to

the needs of others in an inclusive way like Jesus

All are welcome to attend services of Holy Communion If you do not usually take

the bread and wine you will be invited to receive a blessing If you havenrsquot

received communion for a long time you still can itrsquos food for the journey rather

than a reward for good behaviour If you have not received communion before and

would like to or would like to talk about it please contact me Children can be

admitted to communion after preparation adults and older children after

confirmation for which we also offer preparation

On the 1st Sunday of each month is an All Age Holy Communion lasting for about

50 minutes This service aims to involve children and adults together in the drama

of the gospel stories and the fellowship of the Holy Communion On the 3rd Sunday

of each month there is a said Holy Communion service at 9am lasting for about 30

minutes Then at 1030 Messy Church takes place in Burham a great opportunity

for children and others to worship together and learn through some fun activities

On the 2nd 4th and 5th Sundays there is a sung Holy Communion lasting for about

an hour I want to stress that all church services are intended to be child-friendly

and we welcome feedback and suggestions from those taking part in the worship

Finally just a reminder that Easter is quite early this year (Mar 31st) and Lent

begins on Ash Wednesday 13th Feb Do look out for Lent activities

Also a request If anyone has a donkey and would like to lead one of the Palm

Sunday processions from either Burham or Wouldham to Burham Old Church

Firstly the Parish Council would like to wish all residents

A Happy (if somewhat belated) New Year

As a reminder no motorized vehicles including motorcycles

quads etc are permitted on the recreation ground unless

authorization has been granted by the Parish Council

The Parish Council is fully aware

that the lagoon at Margetts Pit is

overflowing during heavy rain

fall Kent Highway Services have

been kept fully up to date on this

situation

Donrsquot forget the Police crime

reporting number is 101

Feedback on the Christmas

lights installed on a tree on

the grassed area opposite

Whitehouse Crescent was

very positive

Donrsquotrsquo forget to recycle all your card-

board and paper in the large recycling

bank at the village hall site We do as

reported on many occasions receive

and KCC so by recycling you are

with the usual menu of homemade soup crusty bread and cheese fruit crumbles with tea or coffee to finish The cost remains at pound250 The Church Council has decided that all the profits after expenses from the Country Lunch the Afternoon Tea and the Book Exchange will be donated each month to a different charity If anyone would like to suggest a charity please speak to a Church member We hope to be able to support the less well-known charities Lent Course- The arrangements for our Lent Course have yet to be finalised Please watch the

Wouldham All Saints Church of England Primary School

February 2013 starts with a couple of very busy weeks as we draw our

themes of lsquoSpacersquo and lsquoAll Creatures Great and Smallrsquo to a close Children

in Caterpillar Hedgehog and Owl Classes will be spending a week thinking

about how we get on with each other and how to build relationships The last

week of Term 3 is packed with special days as we get Chinese New Year

Shrove Tuesday Ash Wednesday and Valentines Day all next to each other

The best way we could think of to tie them all together was to have a week

of thinking about food Wersquoll have a science focus as well as lots of

physical activity racing around with pancakes Maybe we can even have the

odd dragon dance

The end of February sees a great treat for the staff as we are able to join in

with all our area schools to go and hear Michael Rosen a former Childrenrsquos

Poet Laureate and his thoughts about developing and building reading This

will become a focus for Term 4 and we are looking to enjoy a great dress up

day on the 7th March This is World Book Day and will also be an

Everybody Reads Day at Wouldham ndash everybody reads everyday but this

will be even more a celebration of reading books literature and the wonders

of stories

POLICE NEWS Hello everyone I hope you had a good time over the festive period I am

Roxane Wilson your local PCSO I started this role over four years ago and

since 19th March 2012 I have been covering Walderslade Bluebell Hill

Wouldham Burham and Eccles having taken over from PCSO Julie Stoner I

previously worked in the Medway towns

I would like to take this opportunity to update you on some of the things your

155 EVENING BUS SERVICE UPDATE

The halfway point has been reached in the critical 155 evening

bus service trial The results have been fairly good and they

fully justify the demand to keep the service open The future of

the bus depends on the usage rate So far in the trial period this

has been a little over the set target This should ensure the

future of the bus provided the passenger numbers are

maintained during winter months ahead

Before and throughout this trial the support the 155 evening bus service has had

from Arriva has been excellent Their advice has been really good and they

especially wanted to fit the provided service to the needs of their passengers To get

the service up and running well they have provided reduced fares and they are

please to announce that these capped fares will continue until the end of the trial on

31st March

There are great advantages to using the evening bus No parking charges No worry

about drink driving A timetable that fits in with the evening life of the Medway

Towns and Maidstone and the drivers are helpful and friendly

February 2013 starts with a couple of very busy weeks as we draw our

themes of lsquoSpacersquo and lsquoAll Creatures Great and Smallrsquo to a close Children

in Caterpillar Hedgehog and Owl Classes will be spending a week thinking

about how we get on with each other and how to build relationships The last

week of Term 3 is packed with special days as we get Chinese New Year

Shrove Tuesday Ash Wednesday and Valentines Day all next to each other

The best way we could think of to tie them all together was to have a week

of thinking about food Wersquoll have a science focus as well as lots of

physical activity racing around with pancakes Maybe we can even have the

odd dragon dance

The end of February sees a great treat for the staff as we are able to join in

with all our area schools to go and hear Michael Rosen a former Childrenrsquos

Poet Laureate and his thoughts about developing and building reading This

will become a focus for Term 4 and we are looking to enjoy a great dress up

day on the 7th March This is World Book Day and will also be an

Everybody Reads Day at Wouldham ndash everybody reads everyday but this

will be even more a celebration of reading books literature and the wonders

of stories

case of bad weather (hopefully pretty much out of the way soon) and in

155 EVENING BUS SERVICE UPDATE

The halfway point has been reached in the critical 155 evening

bus service trial The results have been fairly good and they

fully justify the demand to keep the service open The future of

the bus depends on the usage rate So far in the trial period this

has been a little over the set target This should ensure the

future of the bus provided the passenger numbers are

maintained during winter months ahead

Before and throughout this trial the support the 155 evening bus service has had

from Arriva has been excellent Their advice has been really good and they

especially wanted to fit the provided service to the needs of their passengers To get

the service up and running well they have provided reduced fares and they are

please to announce that these capped fares will continue until the end of the trial on

31st March

You may be aware that the Parish Council

Chairman Cllr Keith Malkinson sadly

passed away at the end of November Keith

will be greatly missed by all and leaves a

strong legacy for the Parish Council to build

on and take forward

At the Parish Council meeting in

January Cllr Richard Stone was elected as

Chairman and Cllr Ken Savage was elected

as Vice Chairman

Both will be

serving until May

2013 when the
