The Newmarket African
Caribbean Canadian
Association (NACCA) in
partnership with The Town of
Newmarket is hosting a virtual
showcase of youth artworks
during Black History Month 2021
– February 1 – 28, 2021.
The virtual show will feature
artworks from youth who identify
as Black or of African descent in
grades 1 – 12, and may include
painting, photography,
sculpture, and other media.
Deadline for submission is
January 11, 2021 at 6:00p.m.
Prizes of $200 each will be
awarded to three students
based on originality, creativity
and relevance of the artwork to
the theme: “Standing on Strong
Shoulders”.

Financial support for parents/guardians
The government is providing financial support to help parents
and guardians with additional
costs during the 2020-2021 school year during the second wave of
COVID-19.
Eligible parents or guardians will receive a one-time payment
of:
$200 for each child up to age 12
$250 for each child or youth up to age 21 years with special
needs
This is a new program, and all parents or guardians who are
residents of Ontario with eligible
children will need to submit a new application for each
child.
As of today, eligible parents or guardians can go to
Ontario.ca/SupportforLearners for more
information and to apply for the one-time financial support. The
deadline to apply is January
15, 2021.

Preparations for Semester Two Timetables - Important
Announcements
Over the next few weeks timetables for Semester Two will be
reorganized for students
at Bur Oak Secondary School as well as Secondary Virtual School.
During this
challenging and important process, please note the
following:
1. Information through Teach Assist, Edsby, MyPathway Planner
and other course
information tools will not indicate Semester Two course
information while timetables
are being finalized. Course information will return once
schedules have been
completed and we are ready to communicate with students.
2. Counsellors will be dedicating the majority of their time
building the schedules
for our students. As such, we will be temporarily suspending
appointments for the time
being. Are availability to answer emails will also be limited
too. Please only send
email requests for issues that are both urgent and/or time
sensitive to first semester
issues. Course change requests for second semester will resume
with a form
submission starting Tuesday of next week.
Grade 12 Graduating Students - Post-Secondary Application
Deadlines
Students who are applying to OUAC and OCAS are reminded that
deadlines are fast
approaching. Please be sure to submit all applications prior to
the dates for your
programs.
