In fact, it is a complete guideline for the students for the semester, so that there is no room for any confusion on anyone’s part. It also gives a clear picture of what BUP wants to impart to the students as well as what is expected out of the students. Disciplinary aspects are also mentioned enabling the students to have a prior understanding of the culture and discipline of BUP. It is expected that students shall take all instructions and information by heart and follow the same with utmost sincerity. It is worth mentioning that curriculum of BUP is not only a bundle of strict routines and their observances, but also a place where students shall learn to be a good and knowledgeable citizen with excellent presentation skill. The semester is full of fun and frolics apart from the pure academic curriculum, which the students shall come across as the semester unfolds with passage of time. We hope, gradually, all students shall successfully complete the semester with praiseworthy results. Welcome to BUP once again.

Course Overview This course will introduce students to key concepts of legal system of Bangladesh. Bangladesh seceded from Pakistan in December 1971. The British-era legislation applied in Pakistan after 1947 and post-partition legislation enacted in Pakistan continued to form the basis of Bangladeshi personal status laws, but legal developments since 1972 have been distinct.

All laws, rules or regulations made by the competent authority are applied in the Courts and Tribunals. The Courts can be classified into two classes’ viz. the Supreme Court and; Subordinate Courts and Tribunals. The Supreme Court of Bangladesh is the apex court with its two divisions, the High Court Division and the Appellate Division. As the apex court the high court division has been vested with the power to hear appeals and revisions from subordinate courts, and also to issue orders and directives in the nature of writs to enforce fundamental rights and to grant other reliefs available under the writ jurisdiction.
