BUNNY HOUSE MINI PACK

Our Approach to Early Childhood Learning

We know the most impactful learning for little ones happens through spending quality time with other children and adults, reading books, playing games, having conversations, and engaging in joyful activities. Kids can and should love learning; we do not believe in pressuring them to learn things they don’t want to, complete workbook pages, or do flashcard drills.

All of our activities are designed by an educator, and start with play - exploring, pretending, singing, or crafting, and then progress into learning activities. There are sequenced variations to meet the needs of your developing child, and to help you adapt one activity for multiple kids, if applicable. You’ll notice there are no ages attached to the progressions of the activities and this is absolutely intentional - every child will develop at their own rate and that is perfect!

Our goal is to prepare children for kindergarten and beyond with exposure to a variety of topics, vocabu-lary, books, experiences, foundations of reading, basic numeracy, fine motor skills, strategies to manage their emotions, and lots of curiosity. But most importantly, we want them to love learning, so have fun!

Supplies• Printables 8, 9 or 10• Cardboard• Toilet paper and/or paper towel

rolls (at least 3 to support one plat-form)

• Cardstock or construction paper• String• Tape• Hot glue gun• Blocks (optional)

How ToFor each platform you make, cut a freeform shape from card-board. Trace that shape onto a piece of green cardstock, cut out, and tape or glue onto the cardboard. Hot glue 3 TP rolls onto the bottom of the platform.

Stairs: accordion fold a strip of brown cardstock and tape or hot glue it to the bottom of the platform.

Swing: cut a ring about an inch wide from the end of a TP roll. Cut a piece of string and hot glue each end to the swing, then glue the middle to the base of a platform.

To make your bunny houses, signs, and bushes stand up, tape them to a block or to the side of a cut section of TP roll.

TREEHOUSE MATH

Why?

Number sense is the foundation for strong mathematical thinking. Part of having strong number sense is knowing that 3 is the same as 2 + 1, 3 + 0, 0 + 3, and 1 + 2. Breaking apart numbers in this way will help your Little Learner think flexibly, develop fact fluency, and work towards efficient strategies for addition and subtraction.

You can do this activity with the bunny tree-house, or simply with 2 bunny houses taped to the wall, and use the area in front of them as your “platform”.

Level 1Give your child 5 or fewer objects to split between the two platforms. Talk about how many are on each and how many all together. For example, give 3 bunnies and put 2 on the top, and 1 on the bottom. Say 2 and 1 make 3.

Level 2Challenge your child to find another way to break apart the objects between the two plat-forms. For example, they move all 3 bunnies to the top platform and say 3 and 0 makes 3.

Level 3Increase the number of objects, ask your child to find all the ways they can to break apart the number, and record the matching addition sen-tences created on a piece of paper.

Supplies• Small chicks, bunnies, or dolls• Bunny treehouse, or 2 bunny
