On Thursday Mrs Hamilton and Mrs Warren took a group of students from the Unit to a Special Athletics Carnival at Canobolas Rural Technology High School in Orange. We met students from all over western NSW and were grouped together for activities such as 10pin, bocche, tennis, cricket, softball, soccer, mini golf, netball and athletics. The activities were organised and run with the help of CRTHS students who did a wonderful job. It was a long and tiring day but students had a wonderful time.

Stage 1 Transport Excursion

Thank you to all of those students who have already paid for our upcoming transport excursion! Remember it is in

week two of Term 4 and it costs $10 per student to go. If you haven’t paid, try to get your money in as soon as possible. It will be a fantastic opportunity for students to learn more about transport in our local community!

Home Readers and Library Books

If you have any home readers or library books at home, please remember to bring them back before the end of the school term.

No hat, No Play

Well done to everyone who is remembering to wear their hat to school! Remember as the days

continue to get warmer, you must have a hat to be able to play when we are outside.

Mrs Letfellah’s Last Week

Next week will be Mrs Letfellah’s last week at school before she leaves to go on maternity leave. We wish her and her husband all the best for the exciting times they have ahead of them!

We look forward to parents and community members joining us tomorrow for our NAIDIOC Day

Last week students from Stage 2 travelled to Wambangalang Environmental Education Centre for their overnight excursion.

Students had their bags packed and were ready to go. When we arrived, students were introduced to Bob and Ian who were our hosts for the trip. Bob and Ian congratulated students on their manners, behaviour and knowledge of the environment and what things we can do to look after it. Once students were shown around, students were asked to select their beds for the night. Students were very excited about the top bunks and to share a room with a friend. After students selected their area they were divided into groups and the learning began. Group 1 headed off to learn about our Aboriginal Ancestors. Bob spoke with students about an extensive collection of Aboriginal artefacts such as spears, wooden dishes and stone axes. Students asked many questions and presented a great amount of knowledge about Aboriginal hunting and gathering.

Students then were taken outside to learn how to throw a returning boomerang. Bob had both left and right-handed boomerangs. Most students’ boomerangs returned but some just crashed the trees or the tin shed. Thank goodness for the safety net!

Group 2 went with Ian to complete the Low Ropes course. This course consisted of 12 connected activities with varying degrees of challenges. Students were pumped! They put on their helmets and partnered up. No student showed fear, only Miss Mercuri as she went through the air on the Flying Fox. Students learnt trust, confidence in themselves and how to guide their partner. Both groups swapped over after lunch.

At dinnertime students ate their spaghetti bolognaise. The talk at the dinner table was very loud but students didn’t forget to use their manners. Well done! While waiting for their desert students played charades. Great acting from Talon Tripp

and Josh Herbert. Students were then treated to an ice-cream waffle cone. Yummy!

After dinner, students settled down to a classic DVD with a special surprise for Brianna D’Esposito who celebrated her 10th birthday. Thanks Mrs D’Esposito for the fabulous cake.

Stages 2 & 3 News (Continued)

The next day students spilt into their groups again and participated in the Orienteering course and bike riding. The orienteering session required students to divide into teams and explore the Wambangalang Woodland. The bike riding session consisted of two activities. Students selected their bikes and listened to Bob’s instructions. It was interesting that some students had never been on a bike before. The session included: riding through set challenges on the bike track. Challenges included a Slow Race, Chaos Corner, Minefield, and the Ball on the Stick. Students were then given time to explore the woodland on their own on their bike. Overall, the Wambangalang experience for all was wonderful. Congratulations to all students for being Safe, Respectful, Learners. Special thanks to Mrs Pritchard for organising the excursion and food shopping, George Dunn for his wonderful cooking and assistance and Mrs Julie Adams and Janette Knight for your time, enthusiasm and support. Our Excursion to Wambangalang Written by: Chloe Hilder and Balen Hannifey (Stage2/3 Fish)

When we went to Wambangalang (40 minute drive by bus) we first sat down and met our instructors, Bob and Ian. They showed us around the Wambangalang site. It was exciting. We then met Cockatoo Joe, who was owned and raised by an old lady that passed away. Bob and Ian took Joe in. Joe is taking a long time to settle into his new home. It was exciting that Mr Frost could make him dance. Go Mr Frost! The following day we went bike riding and orienteering which was heaps of fun. We learnt how to use a compass and what some signs meant in the woodland. Later Mrs Pritchard brought rissoles, coleslaw and fresh buns for our barbeque lunch. It tasted so good. Before we left to go back to school, Bob and Ian opened up the souvenir shop so we could purchase things. We had such a great time at Wambangalang.

Wambangalang Written by: Jenaya Gibbs-Muir

(Stage 2 Marlins) On Wednesday Stage 2 travelled to Wambangalang for two days. After our school assembly, Miss Mercuri marked the roll. We then got on the bus. The trip took approximately 30 minutes. When we got there we put our bags near the cabins and had a look around the site. It looked pretty cool. Mr Frost called us to the green seats and then we were introduced to Ian and Bob who were going to help us through the next two days. They then let us pick our beds for the night. The bell rang and we were given some free time to have a good look around. I got to feed Joe the Kangaroo. After lunch we split into two groups. One group did the Aboriginal study session while my group went to the Low Ropes with Ian. The next day we had orienteering and bike riding. We were so busy but had lots of fun! I had such a good time at Wambangalang.

Friday afternoons are very popular for the boys heading down to PCYC for some fun activities and exercise. We are approaching the end of our gymnastics program, and there is some impressive talent among Buninyong’s students. We have been practising back flips, handstands, cartwheel and round-offs, and hope to inject some of our newly-developed skills into the Stage 3 performance for NAIDOC Day assembly tomorrow morning!!
