ANZAC Day 2019

On Thursday the 25th April ANZAC Day will be commemorated at the Bungendore War Memorial

in Gibraltar Street. As in previous years, BPS has worked in conjunction with the Bungendore War

Memorial Committee to ensure the school children play a vital part in this service.

Our school normally has a large number of students who proudly march on the day, with our school

Captains having leadership roles and our senior Defence students responsible for the Remembrance

speeches. If students wish to wear medals belonging to family members, please remember that they

must be worn on the right side of the chest.

Children wishing to represent the school in the march up Gibraltar Street to the Cenotaph are asked

to wear school uniform (hats are ideal) and assemble at the Gunna-doo Bakery at 10.20am. The

march is due to commence around 10.30 - 10.45, BPS staff will be there to greet everyone. The

service will then commence at 11.00am.

This year we are asking parents to please collect their children from our designated area near the

Cenotaph immediately after they have marched and before the service commences at 11.00am

(particularly the infants children). In previous years some children have not coped with the heat and

duration of the service.

Rotary Public Speaking The six students who will be representing BPS next Tuesday night in the Rotary Club of Bungendore Primary Schools’ Public Speaking Competition are: Chloe Stevenson, Isabelle Woodward and Ted Niven in the Year 6 section, and Bronte English, Oliver English and Matthew Forman in the Years 3-5 section. On Friday, March 22, two students from each class in Years 3-5 at Bungendore competed in the school hall for public speaking. This is called a ‘Speak Off’. The Year 6 classes fielded three students and 5/6M was represented by one speaker. All students in the school prepared a speech to present to their class, then the teacher for that class chose two students to represent their class. The Junior speech topics that students could choose from were: Why should we wear school uniform, What instrument would I learn and why, The benefits of having siblings and topic of own choice. The Senior topics were: 1] Is social media always good for us? 2] Should everyone know basic first aid? 3] ROTARY has a set of guidelines for its members called the “4-Way Test”. The test has been translated into more than 100 languages, and Rotarians recite it at club meetings: Of the things we think, say or do, Is it the TRUTH? Is it FAIR to all concerned? Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS? Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned? Explain one of the tests and how it could be applied at school. All the speeches that were prepared were great and you could see that it took a lot of effort to put them together, as most presenters were very nervous to get up and speak. I think that everyone who presented a speech was great and did a good job! By Emma Metham

NSW Election BBQ declared a winner!

It was an early morning start but thanks to a wonderful team of volunteers, we fed the voting masses with 500 sausages, 10kg of onions, lots of bacon and eggs and a whole lot of smiles. We even sold out well before the polling booths closed, raising over $1000 for our school!

Thank you to Foodlovers, Bungendore Country Butchers, Mulloon eggs, Long Paddock eggs and Paradise eggs, and local families for their donations - we can’t do these events without your generosity and support. A great team effort!

We’ll be doing it all again soon for the Federal Election, so get your BBQ tongs ready

Uniform shop news

The temperature has started to drop this week, so it’s time to start thinking about long pants, jack-ets and long sleeve polos. We’ve got plenty of sizes in stock, so bring the kids in to try them on and get the perfect fit. If you would like to volunteer to help keep our uniform shop running, please email co-ordinator Lindsay or just come along any Friday afternoon and have a chat.

The Uniform Shop is open every Friday afternoon from 2.45 - 3.30pm.

Can’t make it in on a Friday? You can also download the order form here and send into the school office or email to [email protected]. Our volunteers will process these orders on Fridays and leave at the school office for you to collect when convenient.

Canteen news

What’s your favourite winter warmer lunch? Mal is currently devising a new winter menu and is ex-ploring different options for soup, vegetarian sausage rolls etc. If you have any suggestions about what your kids love to eat please drop in and see Mal and her volunteers at the canteen or send in via email.

We are bound by the NSW Schools Healthy Canteen menu guidelines and budget restrictions, but always happy to consider new ideas. The BPS Canteen accepts EFTPOS and online orders via www.flexischools.com.au

Joke of the week

Why was the maths book sad? Because it had too many problems.

Hints & Hacks

Do your kids need some inspo for the Easter Hat parade on 12 April? There’s lots of cheap and cheerful DIY ideas online - take a look here and here. (Right click - Open hyperlink)

Better still, why not ask your friends for the hats their kids wore last year and organise a swap? Your children can always add a few personal touches to make it their own.

There’s lots of ways to keep up with the latest school and P&C news. Have you liked us on Face-book yet? Also, don’t forget to download the free BPS Skoolbag app, which is another great source of BPS news.
