Brooks Elementary School Welcomes New Educators Mary Flachbart is a third grade teacher at Brooks Elementary. She ob-
tained her Bachelor degree from the University of Kentucky in Community
and Leadership Development. Mary is currently enrolled in the University
of the Cumberlands, Masters in Teaching: Elementary Education Pro-
gram. For the last two years she has served as a Kindergarten Instruction-
al Assistant. She is very excited to work with elementary students and
hopes to instill a love of learning in all who enter her classroom.
Emily Kelly is a first grade teacher. She graduated from Western Ken-
tucky University with a Bachelor’s of Science in Elementary Education.
She also graduated from the Bullitt County Public School system and is
looking forward to returning to Bullitt County as a teacher. Her prior teach-
ing experience is in Jefferson County where she taught second grade.
She also taught first grade in Nelson County. Emily enjoys seeing her stu-
dents succeed and grow in the classroom.
Hannah Rowe is an MSD Teacher at Cedar Grove Elementary. She
graduated from the University of Kentucky with a Bachelors of Science
in Special Education K-12. This will be her first year as a teacher and
she is excited to give her students the tools they need to make progress
in the classroom. Every student can learn!
Hannah Rowe Joins Cedar Grove Elementary Staff
Yvonne Fay is a Exceptional Education teacher at Crossroads Elementary.
She is a graduate of LaRue County where she resides with her family. She
has been married for 22 years and has 3 children. Dalton a sophomore at
WKU, Mason a junior and Nova a freshman at LaRue County. She has an As-
sociate in Art from Lindsey Wilson College, a Bachelors in Art from EKU and a
Masters in Special Education from Campbellsville University. She was a stay at home mom until
she starting substitute teaching. She went back to school to attain her Masters in Special Educa-
tion while also substitute teaching. Mrs. Fay just finished her first year teaching, successfully
completing the KTIP program and is beyond excited to join the family of Crossroads Elementary.
Her ideology regarding teaching is to always be the brightest in a world full of colors.

Olivia Rippy is a 5th grade teacher at Freedom Elementary. Her
degree in elementary education is from Spalding University. Olivia
is a Bullitt Central graduate, and is excited to continue being a
part of instilling excellence in educational programs within her na-
tive district. She lives in Lebanon Junction with her husband and
three children. Olivia has taught many years ago in Bullitt County
and at Whitefield Academy in Fern Creek. She has also worked
as an instructional tutor at Freedom for the past eight years. Olivia
believes that inspiring students to be critical thinkers is the cornerstone of success in all
facets of life.

Todd Crumbacker is the Physical Education teacher at Overdale
Elementary School. In his most recent role in education he served
as an elementary physical education teacher with Oldham County
Schools for 2 years. Before his time in Oldham County, Todd
served at Holy Cross High School for 5 years where he taught
health and physical education courses; in addition, he served as
Holy Cross' Head Football coach for 4 of those years. Before his
time at Holy Cross High School, Todd served as the physical edu-
cation teacher at Brooks Elementary School in Bullitt County. Todd was born and raised
in Bullitt County and is excited about serving the students in the county. Todd is a former
student of Overdale Elementary and is looking forward to serving the children of the
community in which he grew up. Todd graduated from Eastern Kentucky University with
a Bachelor's of Science degree in Physical Education teaching. Todd also earned a mi-
nor in school health. Todd earned his Master's degree from Indiana University South-
east. He is entering his 10th year in education.
Overdale Elementary Welcomes New Educators
Sarah Mills Joins Old Mill Elementary School Staff Sarah Mills is teaching preschool at Old Mill. She recently
moved here from her hometown of Cincinnati. She is a graduate
of the University of Cincinnati with a Bachelor's and Master's de-
gree in Early Childhood Education. She has taught preschool for
four years and has worked as a Special Education assistant for
several years as well. She became a teacher to help inspire stu-
dents to be compassionate and caring members of society. She
also strives to instill a lifetime love of learning in her students. She enjoys spending time
with family and friends, traveling, and exploring the outdoors. She resides in Louisville
with her husband, Will, and her cat, Kitty. She is very excited to be joining Bullitt County
Schools!

Kendra Spencer is a second grade teacher. Her degree is in Elemen-
tary Education from the University of Louisville. Prior to teaching, she
was a substitute teacher in the Bullitt County Public School system. She
lives in Mt. Washington with her husband and dog. She believes that in
a world where you can be anything, be kind.
Kristi Taylor is the new EBD Teacher at Overdale Elementary. She
received her degree in Special Education P-12 Learning Behavior
Disorders from Campbellsville University. She began teaching as a
seventh grade Collaboration Teacher in Pulaski County at Northern
Middle School, and has been teaching in Adair County at Adair
County Primary Center as the LBD/EBD Resource Teacher for the
past 5 years. Kristi has been married to her husband David for 21
years and they have twins who are heading to college this fall. Nicho-
las will be going to EKU and Majoring in Aviation and Emily to UK majoring in Communi-
cation Sciences. Kristi has a passion for working with students and looks forward to
serving in the Bullitt County School system.

Rebecca Ostermann teaches fourth grade at Pleasant Grove Elemen-
tary. She is originally from Southeastern Connecticut and graduated
from Eastern Connecticut State University with a BS in Elementary Edu-
cation and a BA in History. Although this will be her first official year at
PGE, she is not new to the school. She was a fourth grade long-term
substitute last year from January through the end of the year. She previ-
ously taught fourth grade in Fort Wayne, Indiana for two years and before that for one
year in Connecticut. She currently lives in Mount Washington with her husband, Jon.
She enjoys spending time at the lake on her sailboat.
Rebecca Ostermann joins Pleasant Grove Staff
Allyson (Ally) Hibbs is a fourth grade teacher at Roby. She grad-
uated the University of Louisville with a Bachelors in Early Ele-
mentary Education with a concentration in Learning and Behavior
Disorders. Ally lives in Louisville with her family and dog, Jaxon.
She enjoys traveling, spending time with friends and family, and
smiling! She is so excited to begin teaching at Roby Elementary
and hopes to have a positive impact on her students as she knows
they will have a positive impact on her.
Susan Lambert is a special education resource teacher serving
students in fourth and fifth grades at Roby Elementary. She
earned a Bachelor's degree in journalism from Eastern Ken-
tucky University and spent the first half of her career as a news-
paper reporter and editor. For the past three years, she has
served as an instructional assistant in the FMD classroom at
LaRue County High School while earning her Master’s Degree
in Special Education, Learning/Behavior Disorders. She lives in Hodgenville with her two
sports-obsessed sons, two sweet dogs, and a sassy cat. She believes that every student
can learn, just not all on the same day or in the same way, and that even the smallest of
victories are worth celebrating.

Cheyenne Crowe is a fourth grade teacher at Shepherdsville Elemen-
tary. She graduated from the University of Louisville with a Bachelor's
degree in elementary education. Before teaching fourth grade she was a
substitute teacher for Bullitt County Schools. Cheyenne lives in Shep-
herdsville with her fiancé and their four children. She is passionate about
education and loves helping children become the best version of them-
selves they possibly can.
Jesika Clark is a second grade elementary teacher. Her de-
grees are in Elementary Education from Fayetteville State Uni-
versity (North Carolina) and a Master of Arts in Curriculum and
Instruction with a Certificate in Reading Instruction from Univer-
sity of New England (Biddeford, Maine). Prior to teaching, she
served in the United States Army Louisiana National Guard
and served in Operation Enduring Freedom 2003. She has
taught in North Carolina, Alaska, and Kentucky. She lives in
Fort Knox with her husband and three daughters. She believes that she is not only in her
classroom to teach, but she is also there to learn from her students.

Bernheim Middle School Welcomes New Bruins Mackenzie Perdue is a seventh grade ECE teacher and will be
teaching reading. She graduated from Western Kentucky Universi-
ty this past May with a degree in Special Education: Learn-
ing/Behavior Disabilities and Moderate/Severe Disabilities.
Through WKU, she was able to teach English in Germany for a
month during her student teaching experience. She is a proud Bul-
litt County native and currently lives in Mount Washington. She
believes that all students can learn and she is excited to help them grow in their literacy
skills. She is also excited to begin her first year of teaching.
Dominic McCamish is an eighth grade science teacher at Bernheim (go
Bruins!). He has been teaching science for five years in the Lexington
area and recently moved home to be near family. His Bachelor’s degree
is from Eastern Kentucky University, and he is currently completing his
Master’s degree at Georgetown College. He is married, lives in Eliza-
bethtown, and has two young children.

New Educators Welcomed at Bullitt Lick Middle School Trish Schneider is a 7th grade Reading teacher. Her degrees
are in English from the University of Louisville and a Master of
Arts in Teaching from Spalding University. Prior to teaching in
the K-12 system, she taught English at the college level and for
Adult Education as well as serving as a college advisor. She
was also an ELA teacher for Jefferson County. She lives in
Southern Indiana with her husband and son. She believes that
literacy is the foundation for a successful life and strives to instill a love of reading in eve-
ry student.
Nicole Routon is married to her wonderful husband, Paul,
and they have two girls, Addie (6) and Lilly (2). The family at-
tends Journey Christian Church and are looking forward to be-
ing more connected to the community through Bullitt Lick Mid-
dle School. Nicole worked in both Oldham County and Jeffer-
son County. This will be her 10th year as a middle school sci-
ence teacher. During that time, she has taught every grade
and loves each one for different reasons. She is so excited to
be a part of the Bullitt County family!
Frances M. Valdes-Crespo Joins Eastside Middle Staff
Frances M. Valdes-Crespo is a new Language Arts instructor. She has a
Bachelor of Arts in Humanities and a Master of Arts in Teaching from the
University of Louisville. Frances has five years teaching experience in the
Archdiocese and Jefferson County Public Schools.

Kim Schraut is the STEM Math teacher for Discovery School at
Hebron Middle. Mrs. Schraut earned a Bachelors of Science in
Business Administration with concentrations in Management and
Marketing. She came to education through the alternative certifica-
tion route, earning her Masters of Arts in Teaching from Spalding
University in 2009. Kim is a proud product of Bullitt County Public
Schools, as she graduated from Bullitt East in 1997. She has
served as a KTIP Mentor teacher, a Cooperating Teacher for University of Louisville stu-
dent teachers, Team Leader, as well as various other school-based committees. This
year begins her 10th year of teaching mathematics in middle school and she is very ex-
cited to be back home in Bullitt County Public Schools. Kim currently resides in Mt.
Washington with her husband and their two children.
Danielle Abramson is the new Instructional Coach at Heb-
ron Middle School. She recently moved to Kentucky from
Northern Indiana. This marks her 23rd year in educa-
tion. Her experience includes 17 years of teaching at both
the elementary and middle school levels, as well as 4
years of instructional coaching. She also spent one year as
a Central Office Administrator, serving as both a District
Data Specialist and Corporation Test Coordinator. Danielle
earned a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education from
Eastern Washington University and a Master's Degree in
Education from Purdue University, with a concentration in Curriculum and Instruction. In
2013, she also obtained her License in School Administration through Indiana State Uni-
versity. One of Danielle's favorite quotes is "Educating the mind without educating the
heart is no education at all." ~ Aristotle

Brandon Etienne is in his sixth year of teaching and his first as
Band Director at Mount Washington Middle School. Mr. Etienne
holds a Bachelors Degree in Music Education and a Master of Art
in Teaching Degree, both from the University of Louisville. Mr.
Etienne's bands have consistently received distinguished ratings at
festivals and concert assessments. Mr. Etienne is a member of the
National Association for Music Education and the Kentucky Music
Educators Association. He currently serves as the Middle School Band Chair and Presi-
dent Elect for the Kentucky 5th District Music Educators Association. He performs regu-
larly as a member of the trombone section in the professional ensemble The Louisville
Concert Band, including performances at the Midwest National Band and Orchestra Clin-
ic in 2013 and the Kentucky Music Educators Association Conference in 2017. When not
teaching, he loves cooking and spending time with his wife, Elizabeth, and dog, Lucy.

Amanda Joseph is a 7th grade English Language Arts and Social
Studies teacher at Zoneton Middle School. She earned her BS in Mid-
dle Grades Education concentrating in English and Social Studies.
Mrs. Joseph grew up in Bullitt County and attended Pleasant Grove
Elementary, Eastside Middle School, and Bullitt East High School. She
believes her upbringing in Bullitt County gives her a unique perspec-
tive in the classroom and more pride in her school community. Mrs. Joseph is eager to
be a champion for her students and teach the future of our community in her new class-
room.

George Donoghue is a seventh grade Math teacher who is also
certified in science and social studies. He has a Bachelor’s degree
in Building Construction Management from Michigan State Univer-
sity and a Master’s in Education from Kent State University.
George resides in Louisville and previously worked in Jefferson
County for 11 years. Currently he is working on his National Board
Certification in Mathematics. He believes that a teacher's job is to
help students achieve their unknown potential and develop into
productive members of their community.

Scott R. Schweitzer is a High School Information Technology and
Computer Programming teacher. He received his Bachelor of Arts in
Teaching from Eastern Kentucky University, a Master of Arts in Edu-
cational Technology and a second Master of Arts in School Admin-
istration, both from Morehead State University. He also holds numer-
ous Information Technology professional certifications. Prior to
teaching, Mr. Schweitzer spent nearly 20 years in the business
world. He has been building and programming computers since his high school years in
the early 80s. He has been a middle school teacher, a high school IT teacher and was
the district level Technology Integration Specialist for Spencer County Schools for the
last 7 years. He is excited to be starting a new Career Pathway in Computer Program-
ming at the Riverview Opportunity Center which will culminate in a new Kentucky De-
partment of Education initiative course in Problem-Based Programming.

Bullitt Central High School Welcomes New Educators
Sarah Crawford is a Spanish Teacher at Bullitt Central. She
holds a BA in Spanish Linguistics from the University of New
Mexico and an endorsement in Teaching English to Speakers of
Other Languages (TESOL) from Murray State University. She
began her teaching career as a university English language in-
structor in Quito, Ecuador, where she lived for two years. Most
recently, she's been teaching ESL for JCPS Adult Education,
where she worked with refugees and immigrants from over 30
different countries. Ms. Crawford is a Kentucky native and a fan of UK basketball. In her
spare time, she tends to her plants, travels around Latin America, relaxes with yoga, and
nerds out to all things related to the Spanish language.
Alisa Watkins is a freshman English teacher. She received
her bachelor's degree in English and her Master of Arts in
Education from Western Kentucky University. Mrs. Watkins
taught all levels of English at Glasgow High School for 23
years before coming to Bullitt Central. She lives in Shep-
herdsville with her husband and daughter. She believes the
most important part of her job is to motivate students to give
their best effort so that they will leave high school with many options for their future.

Megan Terry is a Bullitt County native who has returned home to
teach Agriculture and serve as the FFA advisor at Bullitt East High
School. Megan was raised on a cattle farm in Bullitt County and
heavily involved in FFA in high school. Megan worked for the Na-
tional FFA Organization as a facilitator where she traveled the
country to facilitate leadership conferences for high school FFA
members. She was recently named Murray State University's
"Outstanding Senior Woman in Agriculture." Megan believes that
every student (and person) needs to be familiar with agricultural practices. She cannot
wait to implement experiential learning in her classroom and prepare students for their
future careers.
Christi Abshire is a 9th grade Math teacher. Her degrees are a
Bachelor of Science in Education from Shorter University and a Mas-
ter of Arts in Education from University of the Cumberlands. Prior to
joining the BCPS team, she taught in Jefferson and Hardin Counties
as well as schools in Georgia, Texas, and Virginia. She is also an
Adult Education instructor at the Bullitt County Skills U - part of the
KCTCS system of education. She believes that every student can
learn at high levels and will be her students biggest cheerleader along with their families.
Melissa Gordon has a Bachelors of Science in Psychology,
Masters in General Psychology, and a second Masters in Clini-
cal Psychology from the University of Louisville. She was a men-
tal health therapist for many years focusing on substance abuse.
Soon after she taught at Jefferson Community and Technical
College as a Psychology Professor. This is when her love for
teaching began! She has since returned to school working on
her teaching certificate at Georgetown College. Melissa is teach-
ing Junior and Senior English at Bullitt East. She is looking forward to working with the
students to help them succeed in their academic endeavors and wants to instill in them
the desire to learn in hopes this will continue once they leave Bullitt East.

Robert Dickson is the Aviation teacher in the Area Technical Center.
He is an FAA certified Flight Instructor with 30 years experience in
Commercial Aviation as a Corporate Pilot. He holds a Bachelors of Sci-
ence in Professional Aeronautics from the Embry-Riddle Aeronautical
University. Robert flew across the North Atlantic Ocean to and from Eu-
rope over 40 times. His logbook records 10,000 hours of pilot-time and
landings in every state except Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine. His teaching expe-
riences include Aircraft Construction and Maintenance. Robert will help prepare high
school students for the Commercial Drone Pilot examination and the Private Pilot written
test.

Kenny Thornsberry is a high school math teacher. His degrees include
a Bachelors of Arts in Mathematics and a Master of Arts in Teaching
from the University of Louisville. Kenny attended Bullitt East and is excit-
ed to be back teaching at Bullitt East!
Bullitt East High School Welcomes New Faculty
Brittany Buckner is a Spanish teacher at North Bullitt. Her degrees are
in Spanish from DePauw University and a Masters of Arts in Teaching
from the University of Louisville. She lives in Louisville, KY with her two
cats. Prior to teaching, she worked at Grand Teton National Park and
Custer State Park. She also lived in Ecuador for five months. She be-
lieves that learning another language is a superpower that opens up
many doors.

school year. All in-school programs are FREE to teachers and bring real-world connections to

Schedule a Trip to Bernheim Forest this Fall Laser Guided Star Tour Saturday, Sept. 8 from 8:30-10:30 p.m. at the Garden Pavilion.
The fee is $10 for Bernheim members; $12 for non-members. Ages 8 and up. No pets
allowed. Enjoy an evening stroll around Lake Nevin with “Star Captains” Bill Napper and
Don Spain. These Volunteer Naturalists will use a laser pointer to help you experience
the celestial happenings in the night sky.
Creatures of the Night: Screech Owls Friday, Sept. 14 from 7:30-10:00 p.m. at the
Garden Pavilion. The fee is $10 for Bernheim members; $12 for non-members. Ages 8
and up. No pets allowed. Summer is an opera, complete with throaty vocals, high
pitched vibratos, and an expert cast of creatures, each playing its part in this ancient dra-
ma. Journey with Bill Napper and fellow Volunteer Naturalists on a driving tour into sec-
tions of Bernheim where crepuscular and nocturnal creatures are most active. Program
includes a small amount of hiking through easy terrain.
BugFest and Fall Plant Sale Saturday, Sept.
15 from 9:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. at the Visitor
Center. This is a free events with a $5 per ve-
hicle weekend fee for non-members at the
gate. Bernheim will be abuzz with all sorts of
fun as we explore insects and their relatives.
Join in the Parade of Bugs, have fun on an
Insect Safari, dare to Eat-A-Bug! and much
more! You can also pick out the perfect plants for your home garden at the Fall Plant
Sale. Bernheim Select™ trees, shrubs, grasses and perennials await their new home in
your fall landscape.
Quarter Moon Hike Saturday, Sept. 15 from 8:00-10:00 p.m. at the Garden Pavilion.
The fee is $10 for Bernheim members; $12 for non-members. Registration and pay-
ment due by 4:00 p.m. the day prior to the program by calling (502) 955-8512. Ages
8 and up. No pets allowed. Quarter Moon Hikes include a trek through Bernheim’s holly
collection, around Cedar and Holly Ponds to the Earth Measure sculpture, and into the
Big Prairie.

An Introduction to Birding with Beckham Bird Club Saturday, Sept. 22 from 8:00
a.m.-noon at the Visitor Center. The fee is $15 for Bernheim members; $ for non-
members. Ages 10 and up. Half of proceeds will support Bernheim’s Golden Eagle Re-
search Project. If you have considered taking up birding or are just beginning, this pro-
gram is just for you! It begins with an indoor presentation of basics, including optics, field
guides and bird feeding, as well as an overview of birds you might encounter in the area.
Participants will then travel via caravan and on foot to join experienced birders from Lou-
isville’s Beckham Bird Club to look for birds at Bernheim.
Muddy Boots Play Group Saturday, Sept. 22 from 10:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. in the Wood-
land Pavilion (in Guerilla Hollow Area). The fee is $15 for Bernheim members; $20 for
non-members. Muddy Boots is a forest play group for children ages 3 – 6. Children enjoy
free play in the forest and self-directed exploration in an adventure under the trees and
around the woodland cabin. Using forest kindergarten and nature preschool as models,
program facilitators let children lead the way as they learn through play in all weather.
Children bring lunch, a water bottle and should be dressed for the weather. Snack is pro-

Full “Harvest” Moon Hike Monday, Sept. 24 from 7:30-9:30 p.m. at the Garden Pavil-
ion. The fee is $10 for Bernheim members; $12 for non-members. Ages eight and up. No
pets allowed. Part of Bernheim at Night, Full Moon Hikes include a walk around Lake
Nevin Loop, with plenty of stops to observe the night sky, discuss nocturnal happenings,
and consider our cosmic connections.
Evening at Isacc’s: Summer Garden Supper Club Friday, Sept. 28 from 6:30-8:30
p.m. at Isaac’s Café Patio. The fee is $25 for Bernheim members; $30 for non-members.
Join us for an Evening at Isaac’s! The Edible Garden’s Summer bounty will be the back-
drop for an evening of food, fun and festivities. Enjoy live music, appetizers, a garden
tour, cooking demonstration and, of course, a wonderful supper. Don’t miss out on this
one of a kind experience to taste all that the summer garden has to offer.
