Greeting everyone, In the following pages, you will find many important information regarding the Montreal International Open 2017 as well as for the karate seminars. We hope to meet you there. 1. GENERAL INFORMATION

M. Douglas Brose – Brasil : KUMITE M. Antonio Diaz - Venezuela : KATA
Douglais Brose is a two-time WKF world champion in kumite. He also won 8 gold
medals at the Pan-American Championship and at many other important tournaments. He
is also a Graduate in Sport Performance.
Antonio Diaz, from Venezuela, is a two-time gold medallist in kata at the WKF World
Championship in 2010 and 2012. He also won three bronze medals and one silver
between 2002 and 2008. Furthermore, he is a fourteen-time Pan-American champion.

The competition will start at 9:00 AM and will end around 6:00 PM. A detailed scheduled will be made available on Sport Data as well as on the Montreal International Open web page on Friday May 5, 2017.

2. PARTICIPANT REGISTRATION – IMPORTANT INFORMATION
The athletes can only register in one kata category and one kumite category, except for those participating in the Senior Open Kumite Open. The RECREATIONAL division is divided in Intermediate and Advance levels. As a general guideline, the Intermediate level is intended for to a participant with a 2-3 years experience. The Advance level is more suited to a participant with more than 3 years of experience. The brown and black belts can only register in the Advance level categories. The ELITE division is intended for advance karateka’s (BLUE/PURPLE to BLACK belts) who wish to compete against the best of their age category. These athletes will be able to register in the following categories: Youth (12-13), Cadet (14-15), Junior (16-17) et Senior (16+ : kata; 18+ : kumite). Take note that all eligible athlete are welcome to register. 3. AGE ELIGIBILITY
In INTERMEDIATE and ADVANCE categories, the athlete must have the age of the category as of May 7, 2017. The category upgrading is available for the ELITE division athletes only. The Elite athletes must have the age of the intended category as of March 19, 2018. DIVISIONS AND CATEGORIES

NOTE (province of Quebec only): Athletes who took part in the 2015-2016 and 2016-2017 Quebec Team selection process cannot register in the RECREATIONAL division category if they accumulated points. It is mandatory for athletes that have accumulated points in an Élite category to

join the division ELITE category/ies where they accumulated points. Other age categories, beside Youth Elite to Senior Elite categories are not subject to this restriction. Karate Quebec reserves its right to examine every registration submitted to ensure a fair participation to all athletes. 4. REGISTRATION FEES
a. COMPÉTITION
- PARA-KARATE : 1 event : 50$ CND - RECREATIONAL : 1 or 2 events : 50$ CND - ELITE JUNIOR : 1 or 2 events : 50$ CND - ELITE SENIOR : 1 event : 75$ CND ; 2 or 3 events : 100$ CND

b. KARATE SEMINAR
The registration for one session is 40.00$*. For each additionnal session you register to, you get a 5.00$ discount for each of them.
- 1 session: 40.00$ * - 2 sessions: 75$ (40$+35$) * - 3 sessions: 105$ (40$+35$+30$) * - 4 sessions: 130$ (40$+35$+30$+25$) *
* The registration fees are valid until Monday May 1st, 2017. After this date, the registration fee for each session will be 60.00$ (without any discount). 2. COMPETITION RULES
The 2017 MONTREAL INTERNATIONAL OPEN is open to all participants – members and non-members – from all karate styles and from all karate associations, for Intermediate, Advance and Elite athletes, from 8 years old and up. All RECREATIONAL and ELITE kata and kumite divisions will be judged according to the current WKF (World Karate Federation) rules.
5.1 KATA
Kata divisions will be judged by flags as follows: - Intermediate, under 18 years old : will perform kata simultaneously – no repechage - Intermediate, 18 years old and above : will perform kata individually – no repechage - Advanced, under 14 years old : will perform kata simultaneously – no repechage - Advanced 14 years old and above : will perform kata individually – no repechage - Elite Juniors (12 to 17 years old) : will perform kata individually – no repechage - Elite Seniors (16 years old and above) : will perform kata individually – with repechage
- Para-karate: will perform kata individually and will be judged by points.
Number of required katas Intermediate
Athletes must be able to present at least 2 katas which may be repeated. The same kata may not be repeated in two consecutive rounds.

Advance
Athletes must be able to present at least 3 katas which may be repeated. The same kata may not be repeated in two consecutive rounds. Elite Youth (12-13 years old)
Athletes must be able to present at least 4 katas which may be repeated. The same kata may not be repeated in two consecutive rounds. Elite 14 years old and up
Athletes must present a different kata in each round and may not repeat any kata. NOTE: Only katas from the official kata list may be performed. Appendix A presents the list of Official katas.
5.2 KUMITE
For kumite divisions, the duration of bouts will be as follows:

For all kumite divisions, there will not be any repechage (single elimination) with the exception of the prize earning Open weight divisions and Kata Senior. All protection equipment must be officially WKF or PKF approved or an equivalent style that must perform like WKF approved equipment
5.2.1 Mandatory kumite equipment – INTERMEDIATE and ADVANCED
- Gloves/Hand protection (1 pair red OR blue) - Foot and shin protectors (1 pair red OR blue) - Mouthguard - Body protector (recommended) - Groin cup/protector for male athletes - Chest protector for female athletes (recommended for 12-13 years old divisions and
mandatory for 14 years and above divisions)
- Belts – (1 red AND 1 blue) - Karate-gi respecting WKF rules
5.2.2 Mandatory kumite equipment - ELITE
- Gloves/Hand protection (1 pair red AND 1 pair blue) - Foot and shin protectors (1 pair red AND 1 pair blue) - Mouthguard - Body protector (recommended for 12-13 years old divisions and mandatory in 14 years and
above divisions) - Groin cup/protector for male athletes - Chest protector for female athletes (recommended for 12-13 years old divisions and

5.2.3 Head scarf
Female competitors may wear a WKF homologated, or equivalent, black plain fabric head scarf covering the air, but not the throat area. Any other head covering will not be permitted. 6. PRESENTATION OF MEDALS AND PRIZE MONEY
For each of the Recreational and Elite categories, there will be : - 1 gold medal - 1 silver medal - 2 bronze medals
Furthermore, prize money for a total of $5 000 CDN will be hand out to the athletes of the following categories :
KUMITE OPEN KATA . Senior Men . Senior Men . Senior Women . Senior Women
For each of these 4 categories, the finalists will share an amount of 1250$, where 1000$ will be given to the gold medallists and 250$ to the silver medallists. 7. OFFICIALS
All officials holding a valid provincial, national, continental or WKF world official’s license are welcome to officiate at the 2017 Montreal International Open.
