FAMILIES IN ACTION

Families in Action provides the kind and generous members of our parish community with local opportunities to assist our neighbors in need, by volunteering their time or donating needed items. People of all ages are welcome to g e t i n vo l v ed by v i s i t i n g h t t p : / /www.signupgenius.com/go/4090e4faea96-community Service hours are also available. Don’t Come Empty Handed! Each month we will be collecting an essential item, which cannot be purchased with food stamps, to support Act in Faith’s Community Cupboard in West Chester. This month please bring donations of TOOTHPASTE-any type or size- to church with you. Additionally, donations of (fresh or frozen) turkeys, size 3-5 diapers, new or used strollers, and children’s books are being accepted. Please see website for more information and other ways to volunteer your time. “In places such as this we are all confirmed in

the faith; each one is helped in his or her belief,

because we see the faith visibly expressed in

practical acts of charity. We see how faith brings

light and hope in situations of grave hardship;

we observe how faith is rekindled in hearts

touched by the Spirit of Jesus who said,

“Whoever receives one such child in my name

receives me” (Mk 9:37). This faith, working

through charity, dislodges the mountains of

indifference, of disbelief and of apathy, and

opens hands and hearts to work for what is good

and share this experience. Through humble

gestures and simple acts of service to the least

among us, the Good News that Jesus is risen and

lives among us is proclaimed.”—Pope Francis

BLOCK COLLECTION AND CHURCH RENOVATION

FUND UPDATE 11-2-2015

The Annual Census/Stewardship (Block Collection) campaign is an integral part of a parish renewing itself in the gracious and generous spirit of Jesus. Each year the Block Collection serves to meet a significant portion of our annual operating budget (regular operating expenses). This year’s collection has taken on an additional special character because of the necessity to replace the flooring and reupholster the pews. To date, your generosity brings us within $12,000 of meeting the annual operating budget for the Block Collection. The Church Renovation Collection has brought in $45,202 to date. The total for this project was $72,865. We sincerely appreciate the participation of our families during these challenging financial times. If you had not had the opportunity to make a donation toward the Block Collection or the Church Renovation Fund, please prayerfully consider making a gift today.

National Junior Honor Society

Congratulations to St. Maximilian Kolbe Parish School students Patrick Boyle and Zoe Fetchko who were inducted into the Bishop Shanahan Junior Honor Society, Monday, October 19. These students were acknowledged for their leadership, service, scholarship and character which are hallmarks of the Honor Society.

Parade of Saints, Dance-a-Thon Friday, October 30 was a creative day of costumes, informative readings and dance for St. Max School students. The morning started off with a beautiful prayer service in which the fifth grade students dressed in saints and paraded into church as the student body sang “For All the Saints”. Our student saints each presented a brief description of their saint. Many classes had their Halloween parties Friday. Homeroom parents and volunteers planned age appropriate treats and tricks for the students. The younger students came dressed in their Halloween costume and the older students and teachers dressed in costumes representing selected musical eras. This all lead up to the afternoon dance-a-thon fund raiser in the gym. DJ, Mr. Iacone, had everyone dancing to the popular tunes of the 20’s, 50’s, 70’s and 80’s. The eighth grade students showed off their dancing skills and everyone joined in the fun. The event was a huge success and we thank all who contributed to this fun day.

ARE YOU REGISTERED?

If you worship with us, we welcome you to St. Maximilian Kolbe! We encourage you to register and become an active member of our parish community. We strive to keep our membership records as updated as possible. There is a constant ebb and flow of people moving in and out of the parish. If you don’t receive mail from the parish, it is a good indication that we do not have you enrolled. If you wish to register, please come to the Rectory Office after Mass on Sunday from 9:00 AM to 1:30 PM or from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM Monday through Friday. The Rectory Office phone number is (610) 399-6936. You may also register online at www.stmax.org.

INDULGENCES FOR THE HOLY SOULS IN PURGATORY

November is traditionally the time when the Church asks us to remember the Holy Souls in Purgatory. It is a good time to remind ourselves of the great importance of praying for the dead and in particular, how an indulgence may be granted to them by our spiritual practices. The Manual of Indulgences states that a plenary indulgence may be applied to the souls in purgatory when the faithful visit a cemetery on any day between November 1st-8th and pray for the dead.

The following conditions assure that an indulgence is granted: • Sacramental confession • Eucharistic communion • Prayer for the Pope’s intentions • A genuine desire to be detached from sin in one’s own life

ST. FRANCES XAVIER CABRINI

FEAST DAY NOVEMBER 13

St. Frances wished to become a missionary in China, but God had other plans for her. She left her native Italy and

came to New York to work with the many Italian immigrants here. She also intended to establish an orphanage, but it wouldn’t be easy, since the building she had planned to use was no longer available. She was very determined, however, and was not only able to begin the orphanage, but 67 other facilities that cared for the poor, the abandoned, the uneducated and the sick. She also organized schools and adult education for the Italian immigrants she felt were in danger of losing their faith. She died of malaria in Chicago in 1917. She was the first American citizen to be canonized. A stained glass window depicting her can be found in our own church building.

Eucharistic Adoration: Healing For The Soul

Are you looking for a way to enrich your spiritual life and grow closer to Jesus? We have

a great opportunity every Tuesday to spend some time with Jesus during Eucharistic Adoration. Members of a wonderful group of people have each committed to being there for a particular hour between 9 am and 7 pm so Jesus is never left alone. Many others are able to come in for briefer visits. Any one of any age is always welcome. Just drop in. Some people just sit there quietly with Jesus; some pray the rosary or other prayers; some read spiritual books. There are no requirements or expectations. Try it! We’d like to have at least two people committed to each hour; we also need to compile a list of people who are willing to be called upon as substitutes when the regular adorers are unable to be there. If you would like to participate in this important ministry, let us know. We have a particular need for the 9 to 10 am and 5 to 6 pm hours, but additional people are welcome at any hour. To volunteer for a regular hour or to be placed on the sub list, please provide your name and contact information to Anne Chavez at [email protected] or 610-793-2154 or call the rectory to volunteer. "The time you spend with Jesus in the Blessed

Sacrament is the best time you will spend on earth.

Each moment that you spend with Jesus will deepen

your union with Him and make your soul

everlastingly more glorious and beautiful in Heaven,

and will help bring about everlasting peace on earth."

(Mother Teresa)
