The President

Rotary Club of Kwinana

By Email

Dear John

As we move into a new Rotary year, it’s time for me to start the planning for my District

Conference in 2022. I have decided to hold this Conference in Rockingham, although this

has not been formally announced to our Rotary community as yet.

PDG Robyn Yates has agreed to take on the role of committee Chair, and I have some

members of my home club of Baldivis also engaged in the planning.

As the Conference will be held within the local area of three other clubs, including Kwinana, I

would love to have a representative from your Club on the committee. I am looking for

interested volunteers who would like to share their time and talents to develop what I hope will

be an informative and fun Conference.

The first meeting of the committee will take place at Peel Manor House at 3.30pm on

Sunday 26th July, and we are hoping to make future meetings a mixture of in person and on

line.

Could you please share this with your Club members and ask anyone who is interested to

contact me on 0438 885 494, or by email to [email protected]. I look forward to your

assistance with this.

Yours in Rotary Service

Another great night of fun and fellowship with a

informative speaker Anne Moore from the Lucy Saw

Centre.

Kim and Paul received special mentions again as

visitors but next week they will be joining all the

other special people, our members.

Thanks to Michael Nella and Max Bird for helping

remove all the very nice furniture from 66

Summerton into our factory at 1 Gentle Road.

Whilst there Max and I used the opportunity to take

the van to Bunnings and pick up 3 x 2440 x 1220

12mm marine ply to replace our extremely damaged

and dangerous van floor. Now waiting for our

members that can do more than just “lift heavy

things” to help install the floor.

Hotel Meal Partner’s Night:

It was confirmed by members at last week’s meeting that we go ahead and have a

partner’s night meal out at the Local on Saturday 29 August. An area of the Hotel

has been booked for us.

We need to know numbers for those coming to our Saturday 29th meal at The

Local at 6pm.

Please ASAP get back to me by email or phone to advise of you and your

partner being either a YES of a NO.

Guest Speakers:

Lee continues to search out to present for our meetings a variety of guest speakers

and we thanks her for that. Suggestions for guest speakers to slot into the program

would be welcomed by and need to be arranged through Lee.

Arrangements are in hand for a guest speaker from Shortback and Sidewalks. This group provides a positive service to those people who are homeless in our

community. They were recommended to us by one of our District 9465 Clubs as a

good guest speaker opportunity option.

Indonesian Night Theme at Club: (Partner’s Night)

This Club night on Monday 21 September is to recognise that we are halfway through our Club’s twinning agreement signed 1/9/2018 with the RC of Jakarta

Cilindak Dist 3410 . Mike Nella and Steve Castelli are putting together a program

for the night. It is hoped this will include a video clip prepared and sent to us from

the Cilidak Club???; And maybe an Indonesia guest speaker can be arranged locally?

Members please liaise with your partners and book the night into your Calendar

as a partner’s night.

See agreement from our standing orders below.

20th July 2020

Sister Mary Ann, who worked for a church home health agency, and was out making her

rounds visiting homebound patients when she ran out of fuel.

As luck would have it, a service station was just a block away.

She walked to the station to borrow a fuel can and buy some petrol. The attendant told her that the only fuel can he owned had been loaned out, but she could wait

until it was returned. Since Sister Mary Ann was on the way to see a patient, she decided not

to wait and walked back to her car.

She looked for something in her car that she could fill with petrol and spotted the bedpan she was taking to the patient.

Always resourceful, Sister Mary Ann carried the bedpan to the station, filled it with petrol, and

carried the full bedpan back to her car.

As she was pouring the petrol into her tank, two Baptists watched from across the street. One of them turned to the other and said,

'If it starts, I'm turning Catholic.'

The chef at a family-run restaurant had broken her leg and came into our insurance office to file a disability claim. As I scanned the claim form, I did a double take. Under "Reason unable to work," she wrote: "Can't stand to cook."

Someone stole my credit cards, I won’t be reporting it

The thief spends less than my wife did

Q: What kind of music should you listen to while fishing? A: Something catchy. Q: What did the bald guy say when he was given a comb for his birthday? A: Thanks I will never part with it.

William Saw was a farmer in the Armadale district in the early 20th century who regularly

brought his family to Rockingham for holidays.

In 1919, the family moved permanently to Rockingham and established a farm in a large

parcel of land bounded by Bell, Parkin and Fisher Streets and Lake Richmond to the south.

The family originally lived in a small timber cottage before building this substantial stone

home which they named 'Lakeside' for it was the closest building to the lake on this

northern side. William Saw also built eight holiday cottages on the property and the

produce from the farm was a valuable resource for the visitors and local residents.

The Saws also built and operated a small shop nearby to sell their produce.

One of the Saw children, Lucy Harriet Saw (c1888-1969) was a trained nurse and her

services were regularly used by the community especially when the nearest doctor was in

Fremantle. Local residents recall that Lucy Saw was unstinting in providing care for the

community and her contribution was recognised when the Women's and Children's Refuge

Centre established in the district was named in her honour.

Two little kids are in a hospital, lying on stretchers next to each other, outside the operating room.

The first kid leans over and asks, "What are you in here for?"

The second kid says, "I'm in here to get my tonsils out and I'm a little nervous."

The first kid says, "You've got nothing to worry about. I had that done when I was four. They put you

to sleep, and when you wake up they give you lots of jelly and ice cream. It's a breeze!"

The second kid then asks, "What are you here for?"

The first kid says, "A circumcision."

And the second kid says, "Whoa! I had that done when I was born. I couldn't walk for a year!"

A man and his wife are sitting in the living room and he says to her "Just so you know, I never want to live in a vegetative state dependent on some machine. If that ever happens, just pull the plug." His wife gets up and unplugs the TV.

A Friend You Can Trust

Two campers are walking through the woods when a huge brown bear suddenly

appears in the clearing about 50 feet in front of them. The bear sees the campers and

begins to head toward them.

The first guy drops his backpack, digs out a pair of sneakers, and frantically begins to

put them on.

The second guy says, "What are you doing? Sneakers won't help you outrun that bear."

"I don't need to outrun the bear," the first guy says, "I just need to outrun you."
