• In preparation for the that we and most of the parishes of our Paterson Diocese will be engaging in during the next several months, I had to settle on a number of photos for the brief brochure which will be sent to all of you. This was a larger task than it might seem. It basically meant selecting just seven photos which hit all the bases and covered the entire range of parish life. The Constitutional Convention of 1789 that wrote the U.S. Constitution had an easier job! We decided that one of the photos should come from (which, by the way, is only seventeen weeks away!) because it involves so many parishioners. So I had to look through some 200 photos from The Feast.
At first, I thought an overview shot of the entire Feast from the school roof would be good. But then we reasoned that it would be so small on the brochure that it would not be clear enough. After looking through all these photos, I finally settled on one that depicted a grandfather/grandson team frying zeppoli together. It was a clear photo - no late afternoon shadows as in some of the shots; colorful- with the red and white tent in the background and the bright gold Feast T-shirts on the two fryers; and displaying the inter-generationalism that marks so many the Feast volunteers. Everyone on the committee agreed.
The thing that struck me, though, as I leafed through all these photos, is how much fun we have at The Feast! Every person in every photo was smiling! I have never seen 535 volunteers all smiling as they went off to work. Not even Disneyworld has that; and they all get paid!
The photos reminded me of the joy that is ours in being parish; in living our faith and serving the Lord together. This is meant to remind us of that reality, and invite us to continue to support it so that future generations of Saint Anthony's can experience that joy too.
Beginning on Tuesday, March 7, Father Roberto will be conducting Altar Server Training for all those, fourth grade and up, who are interested in assisting the priests and deacons at Mass. The training will take place in the church. Please leave your name and number with Father Roberto if you are interested in helping out with this ministry.
• Please remember in your prayers Msgr. Patrick Brown, the Coordinator of Special Events for our Diocesan Catholic Charities, who died this past Sunday after a long bout with cancer at the age of 67.
Please also remember Dorothy Reading, the mother of one of our diocesan priests, Father Edward Heading who was buried on Tuesday. Father Reading is a graduate of Hawthorne High School in the Class on 1964.
(from Psalm 71)
It is you, Lord, who are my hope, My trust, Lord, from my youth. At all times I give you praise.
God bless you all,
Father Ray

FAITH FORMATION
SIXTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
First Reading: Sirach 15:15-20 This passage from Sirach gives strong, unequivocal em-phasis to free will in every person. Before each of us is set, sin or virtue, life or death, and each of us are free to choose the one or the other. Second Reading: 1 Corinthians 2:6-10 Paul explains to the Corinthians that there are two differ-ent kinds of wisdom — the wisdom of God and the wis-dom of the world. The wisdom of God is mysterious, but this wisdom has been revealed “to those who love him” through the Spirit. Gospel: Matthew 5:17-37 In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus tells the people he has come to fulfill the law. He speaks strongly against mur-der and anger, against adultery and lust, and against false oaths and lies. He warns the people that unless their virtue exceeds that of the Pharisees, they “will not enter the kingdom of God.”
SAS Tricky Tray - Donations Needed
The St. Anthony School Tricky Tray Committee is looking for help from parishioners to support our fundraiser in any way possible. If you work for a business that would be willing to donate a basket of company merchandise, or if you own your own business and would like to help with a donation of any kind, it would be greatly appreciated. All donations are tax deductible and a letter can be provided for tax purposes. Donating to the SAS Tricky Tray is a great way to advertise for your company and better yet, it supports the students who love their school.
Please contact Denise Costello at [email protected] for additional details and information. On behalf of the SAS Tricky Tray Committee we thank you in advance for supporting our school

PSE&G REMINDS CUSTOMERS TO APPLY FOR
HELP PAYING HEATING BILLS
With cold weather upon us, PSE&G reminds cus-tomers that the Low Income Home Energy Assis-tance Program (LIHEAP) is now accepting appli-cations for the 2016- 2017 heating season. LI-HEAP is a program run by the State of New Jer-sey Department of Community Affairs that helps low-income residents with their heating and med-ically-necessary cooling bills. “We want to spread the word that there is help available for low income families who struggle to pay their utility bills,” said Greg Dunlap, PSE&G’s Vice President of Customer Operations. “Under LIHEAP, those who are income eligible may re-ceive an average of $300 toward their heating bills.” LIHEAP eligibility is based solely on last month’s household gross income and household size. To be eligible for LIHEAP benefits, the applicant’s household gross income must meet monthly in-come guidelines. For example, a family of four with a monthly income of $4,050 or less per month may be eligible and should apply. To receive LIHEAP assistance, customers may pay their heating costs directly, pay their landlord according to their usage, or have their heating included in their rent. Homeowners and those who rent are both eligible and should apply. For more information or, to download a LIHEAP application or find out where to apply, vis-it pseg.com/help or call 1-800-510-3102. Applica-tions are also available at the PSE&G’s 16 walk-in Customer Service Centers listed on your bill. Applications and copies of all requested docu-ments must be submitted by mail or in person to the designated agency in your county by April 30, 2017.
OPERATION RICE BOWL

May these 40 days better prepare us to en-counter ourselves, our neighbors, and our God.
THANK YOU! A hearty "Thank You" to our parishioners who have been donating food to our parish pantry, along with ShopRite gift cards, and making monetary donations. We're very grateful for your ongoing support.
DID YOU KNOW? New Jersey adoption law has changed. As of Jan. 1 this year, adoptees and certain rel-atives will be able to obtain a copy of their original birth certificate without a court or-der. SIXTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
“What we utter is God’s wisdom: a mysterious hidden wisdom. God planned it before all ages for our glory. Yet God has revealed this wisdom to us through the Spirit… Jesus said to his disciples: ‘I tell you unless your holiness surpasses that of the scribes and Pharisees you shall not enter the kingdom of God.’” The ‘professional’ religious people of Jesus’ time knew the bible, practiced in detail the
requirements of their faith, and most were holy people. They knew the word, lived the word and
incorporated it into the daily living.
Fast forward: How does the wisdom of God play out in my life? I know many things from the
bible. I can speak about the four gospel writers and enjoy the life of the primitive church as I find
it in the Acts of the Apostles. Some passages especially from the letters of Saint Paul, as the
hymn of charity or the fruits of the Holy Spirit in Corinthians and Galatianis move me.
The wisdom found in the scriptures is to direct my life and focus on just one thing, that is my
holiness. Knowledge in the head must move down a few inches and become the life giving
pump for my heart. Holiness too is a gift of God for me to seek, discover and accept. We call
Jesus ‘the holy one of God’ and we are to be as well.
