Right Chair, Right Time, Right Now
The former Paralympic athlete Baroness Tanni Grey-
Thompson has called on wheelchair users to support a
new campaign to improve NHS wheelchair services across
England called Right Chair, Right Time, Right Now.
Baroness Grey-Thompson chairs the Wheelchair
Leadership Alliance. This was set up last November in the
latest attempt to respond to widespread concerns about the
quality of wheelchair services.
There have been decades of complaints about the
complexity of wheelchair services, long waiting times, and
varied provision between different areas. Baroness Grey-
Thompson has said that the service is such a small part of
the total NHS budget that it is often overlooked bypolicymakers.
The campaign being launched by the Wheelchair
Leadership Alliance will rely on service users to help raise
the profile of the problems with the wheelchair service
among their MPs. The Alliance plans to create a shortcharter that describes what wheelchair services should
look like.

2013 Census of People in Psychiatric Hospitals
In September 2013 the government did a census of people
with learning disabilities or autism in psychiatric hospitals.
A census is when the government do a count of some or all
of the population to find out more information about them.
Public Health England have released a report telling people
about some of the findings of this census. This report adds
extra information from the census on young people,
regional differences and detail on why people are detained
under the mental health act.

Important Information from Northumbria Police
The Communities Engagement Team with Northumbria
police have warned people to be careful of telephone
scams.
Fraudsters have called people on the phone and pretended
to be the police so that they can con them out of money.
Often the person pretending to be a police officer will tell
people that their bank account is at risk of being hacked,
and that they should take the money out to give it to them.
Sometimes they will do tricks to stay on the phone, so that
people think they have called the police or bank to check
but it is still the fraudster.
The police suggest that to keep safe
You should never give bank account or personalinformation out over the phone, even if the person claims
to be from the police or the bank.
If you want to make a phone call to check things are ok
right after someone has called you, either use a different
phone, or call a family member or friend who you will
recognise on the phone so that you know who you are
talking to.
Report any suspicious phone calls to police straight away
on 101 ext 69191
If you want to talk to someone about this you can contact
PC 2832 Burton at Westgate Road Police Station on
