    GROUNDS FORCE MORNING

Following our Grounds Force morning this week,

we are going to continue to hold a weekly event

for the next two weeks to help us finish off the

clearance of the YR wooded area and the painting

of the woodwork. On Tuesday 12th June, both Mrs

Clarke and Mr Jordan will be on hand to help with

the weeding! On Tuesday 19th June, we will also be joined by

Mr Farrer. As previously, we would appreciate any willing

parent volunteers to help us on these mornings.

    PTA QUIZ – 21st JUNE 2018 - Thursday

Do you have the kind of mind that can retain the names of Katie Price's children and also the length of an

Olympic swimming pool? Has everything you learnt at school fallen out of your brain and been replaced by

obscure lyrics? If so, then the POTLEY HILL PTA QUIZ is the place for you! Join us for a fun-filled night where

everyone's a winner - apart from the losers of course. The quiz takes place on THURSDAY 21ST JUNE in the

Help! The weeds are like triffids!

  • school hall, 7pm for a 7.30pm start. Bring your own drinks and nibbles. Tickets are £3 per person with up to 6

people allowed per team. Fill out the entry form attached to the bulletin and return it to us ASAP to guarantee

your place at this popular night which raises vital funds for the PTA. We'll see you there!

    CLASS ORGANISATION FOR SEPTEMBER

We have now finalised which classes teachers will be leading next year. The major change is the organisation

of Y3/4. This will be similar to Y5/6 with 3 x mixed classes for registration and afternoon lessons; in the

mornings, children will split 4 ways in order to have 2 x Y3 groups for English and Maths and 2 x Y4 groups.

This means that children will be in smaller groups of approximately 22/23 pupils. We will be organising

information sessions for parents in July to share year group expectations. You will also notice that we have

    tweaked a few class names!

Your child’s class will be emailed to you later in the term via ParentMail.

    Year Group Class Name Teacher

    R Caterpillars Mrs Stark

    R Ladybirds Miss Hook

1 Toucans Miss Anstey (new teacher)

    1/2 Flamingos Miss Barton

    2 Hummingbirds Miss Boxall

3/4 (Y3 morning group) Sharks Mr Farrer (new teacher)

3/4 (Y3 morning group) Dolphins Mrs Samuel & Mrs Wallace

3/4 (Y4 morning group) Narwhals Miss Miles

Additional Y4 morning group Whales Miss Bucknell

5/6 (Y5 morning group) Tigers Miss Clarke (new teacher)

5/6 (Y5 morning group) Leopards Mrs Bellingall

5/6 (Y6 morning group) Lions Mrs Richards

Additional Y6 morning group Panthers Mr Jordan

While Mrs Burningham is on maternity leave, Mrs Elkins is taking the lead as SENCo – Please see her letter

which is attached to this bulletin.

Mrs Samuel is also stepping up as one of our Key Stage Leaders next year, sharing this role with Mrs Wallace

who has previously been leading KS1 alongside Mrs Wilson. Mrs Wilson will continue to lead KS1 and the

Early Years but does not have her own class as she will have leadership responsibilities as well as teaching in

various classes as ‘release time’ for other teachers.

We hope the children will be excited about their potential new teacher for September and look forward to

sharing the details with you in a few weeks’ time.

    SPORTS DAY

What a lovely sport’s day! Well done to all the children who showed such good sportsmanship. Our biggest

thank you goes to Miss Bucknell who has been quietly organising the event behind

the scenes and came in today to run it. Although she was tired by the end, she

was really pleased to be well enough to attend and enjoyed chatting to the

parents. Well done to YELLOW TEAM who came first – they have not won the

sports day trophy for many, many years so are particularly delighted that it was

    their year in 2018!

    BOOK FAIR

Our Book Fair has now arrived! Please come and have a browse next week and

potentially choose some new books for that summer holiday reading!

DADS & LADS AFTERNOON – WHOLE SCHOOL

We would like to invite dads, grandads, uncles or other male family members over 18 to Dads and Lads

afternoon on Thursday 14th June from 1.15 – 3.15pm. Each year group will be doing a different activity and

  • adults with children of different ages will be able to ‘ping’ between the activities, spending some time in each.

    Our activities are:

    YR: Pirate themed activities

Y1/2: Newspaper sculptures linked to ‘the beach’

    Y3/4: Roman shields

    Y5/6: Cricket & Rounders

We know that some adults enjoy a bit of dressing up – if this is you, then please feel free to come as a

pirate, a Roman, a beach goer or in PE kit ready for some sport. There may be some of you who are visiting

more than one activity; in this case, we will leave it up to you and you might just want to accessorize! The

aim is to have a fun, casual afternoon, working alongside your children/grandchildren/nephews/nieces etc!

    THE HART LOTTERY

The Hart Lottery is an exciting weekly lottery that raises money for good causes in Hart and you can now

support our school through it. The PTA has joined this lottery as a replacement for our previous ‘100 Club’. Tickets are just £1 per week and each ticket has a 1:50 chance to win a prize, with the top prize being

£25,000! 60p goes towards good causes in Hart and you can choose Potley Hill PTA to receive 50p of that. Simply go to www.hartlottery.co.uk to register, start playing and support the school at the same time. Good luck!

    YEAR 4 ‘CLASS’ ASSEMBLY

Our Y4s will be sharing their experiences of their residential trip to Marchants Hill with the rest of school on

Thursday 14th June at 9.10am. All parents/carers and family members are welcome to join us!

    MASSAGE IN SCHOOL PROGRAMME

The Massage in Schools programme (MISP) was introduced in the UK in 2001 and is a programme of positive

touch and clothed peer massage for children aged 4-12 years – it is used to improve children’s wellbeing.

Research has proved the benefits to be:

    Improved calmness and concentration

Increased self confidence and self esteem

Improved social skills with a greater number of relationships/friendships with peers and adults

Children feel happier and more relaxed

A reduction of aggressive behaviour and bullying

Improved ability to work in groups and independently

Increased awareness of the body and signs of stress and anxiety. Mrs Jordan is a qualified mobile therapist and will be working with different year groups.

This half term, she has started her sessions in Y3/4 and children in every single class

enjoyed their first massage time earlier in the week. These sessions are carried out in an

appropriate way and it is peer-on-peer massage with permission sought from the child

before any touching is allowed. If you have a child in these year groups, please ask them

to explain and show you what they have been doing.

    EASY FUNDRAISING

As some of you may recall, the school is registered with ‘Easy Fundraising’. This is a site

which allows you to set up a log in and to download a quick link on your internet

browser page. Then, every time you shop online and use this link, a donation is made to

the school. There is a wide range of sites including Amazon, Travel sites and even

energy providers and mobile providers. We currently have 44 parents registered with

the site and have so far raised £590.81. Every penny counts and helps our fantastic PTA

to raise money for additional resources for all children in the school. We will shortly

be having new playground markings re-painted at a cost of £6500 – the

majority of this cost has been donated by our PTA. Our link is:

(Chloe & Sophie’s Special Ear Fund) if you would like to sponsor Amelia please see

    her giving page link: http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/Hoskins

    SNOWDON

Ben F climbed to the top of Snowdon all 3,560 feet and climbed back down again on

Monday 28 May 2018. He wanted to do it for the ‘Make a Wish’ charity but did not

get the time to advertise his Just Giving page as he was poorly.

His dad was in the RAF and did mountain rescue for 15 years and they wanted to

inspire him and prove to him you can do anything if you put your mind to it!

It took them 10 hours mainly due to sore feet but they did it! Mum and Dad are so

proud of him as he did it straight after having chicken pox too - what a star!

    E-SAFETY

Our e-safety section over the next few weeks is aimed at children so please encourage yours

to have a go and see if they know how to stay e-safe!
