ISSUE NO. 26 DATE: 22nd AUGUST, 2014

HELLO FROM THE PRINCIPAL!

Dear Parents/Caregivers,

It has been lovely to see a little bit of summer starting to appear, with the days getting longer and ever so slightly warmer. This weather allows a little more time for people to make use of our school property. In most cases, this use is positive, but lately we have had a spate of damage and kids breaking the rules that keep the place safe. Let’s all keep an eye out for our property and let me know if you see anyone doing the wrong thing. Also, remember you can always ring the Police or Edge Security to have someone come and deal with problems at the time.

It is with regret that we have accepted the resignation of Richard Yates, classroom teacher in Kea 2. Mr Yates has been with us for many years, however, he will be leaving us at the end of Term 3, as he is keen to explore teaching opportunities overseas. Mr Yates has been an enthusiastic and passionate teacher, well known for his jump-jamming, poetry reciting and frequent tug-o-war competitions on the field. We wish him all the best on his next adventure in teaching.

We are continuing to encourage our students to be mindful of traffic when they are coming into and leaving school. We thank those parents who have made a real effort to stay off yellow lines and to park safely when dropping off and picking up their children. Hopefully, with the continued increase in fine weather, more of our students will be able to walk, scooter or bike to school!

GENERAL NOTICES:

UNIFORM EMBROIDERY:Our machine is up and running and we have started naming uniform items. We are currently naming PE Gear and the black polar-fleece jacket. Cost is $1 per 3 letters/symbols, per item of clothing. This is a fantastic way to keep track of your child’s uniform and we are keeping a record of which combination of letters/symbols belong to each child, meaning uniform can still be handed down to a sibling or another student once it is outgrown.

Slips are available from the school office, please complete these and return with payment - we will call for your child’s uniform when it is needed.

WODONGA EXCHANGE 2014:Since 2005, we have been involved in a “sister-school” exchange programme with Wodonga South School in Victoria, Australia. This year it is their turn to visit New Zealand and we will soon be looking for approximately 18 families to host these students while they are here. The students are usually in Years 6-8 and we try to match up age/gender/hobbies as best we can. Families who host a visiting student this year, will have first choice to send their own child on the next exchange to Australia. This is a valuable experience to be involved with and there have been many long-lasting friendships made through the exchange, not only between students, but wider families as well.Exchange Dates: Arrive Sunday 9th November, leave Monday 17th NovemberFurther information to follow, please contact Deputy Principal, Kate Gifford with any questions.
