Ja! V.I.

The Haenertsburg community re-joiced on Wednesday at the news that three suspects were arrested at Mshongoville in the Mentz area (Mankweng) in connection with the horrifi c murder of Ms Anna Katarina (Rina) Langenhoven (67).

The suspects are aged between 32 and 45 and one of them is a previous employee of the lodge. Stolen items that were taken from

Langenhoven’s home including a laptop, radio, television and cell phones were found in their pos-session.

Langenhoven was the resort manager for Silver Mist Lodge outside Haenertsburg, and was murdered on Sunday night. Ac-cording to police her body was found by her domestic worker early on Monday morning. Her

hands were allegedly bound and her mouth gagged with packag-ing tape. Her body was discov-ered hidden under a mattress in one of the rooms in the house she was living in on the Silver Mist property.

Langenhoven worked in the ad-vertising industry for more than two decades and took over the management of Silver Mist when

she moved to the area some six years ago. She was well known in the equine world and was in-volved with the Al Miqdad Ara-bian horses at Silver Mist. She’d worked at major studs in the Unit-ed Arab Emirates and the USA where she gained excellent expe-rience in stud and stable manage-ment.

Provincial Police Commissioner

Gen Fannie Masemola expressed his satisfaction at the effi cacy of the intelligence and investiga-tive teams from Haenerstburg and congratulated them on the swift arrests. The three suspects appeared in the Polokwane Mag-istrate’s court yesterday and the case has been remanded.

Three suspects arrested for Langenhoven murder

A young lady from Nkowankowa, Ms Eul-leth Mathye (24), has been nominated as one of the thirty fi nalists for the prestigious Top Model South Africa title.

Mathye is a Human Resources student and currently in a learnership programme with the department of tourism. She is one of Limpopo Beauty Modelling Academy’s models, and has been trained by Tzaneen’s Katryn Barwise.

The grand fi nale event to name SA’s top model is scheduled for 6 February, at Cradle-stone Mall in Johannesburg. To participate in the event, Mathye needs to sell twelve tickets

at R320 each and raise at least R4 000 cash.Ten percent of the required amount will

be donated to patients in hospitals and the rest will help to pay for the winner who will be representing South Africa in the Top Model Worldwide competition in London in March 2016.

The competition is also run in collaboration with Francois Hougaard’s clothing brand: Gold Street LA. The prizes include a men-torship business skills programme and a special prize worth R12 000 from Talk2live for the fi nalist who raises the most funds.

Mathye is pleading with local business peo-

ple and the public to help her raise R4 000 and she hopes to sell her tickets in no time.

“To me this is more than just a competition. Making it to the top three will help build my brand, I will represent Limpopo for the rest of South Africa to see and I will thus set an example to young girls that it can be done,” said Mathye.

To follow and support her as she embarks on this journey, contact her on 071 846 3008 or e-mail [email protected] or visit her Facebook page Eulleth Mathye.

TzaneenGeloftefees16 Desember

In the Christian calendar, we are in the season of Advent, a season of prepara-tion. But preparation for what? As I see it, it is the preparation for the celebration of Christ’s birth, but not only this, it is the preparation for Christ’s return.

The Boy Scout’s mott o is “Be Prepared” and when becoming a Scout you are taught diff erent methods of survival, work ethics, helping others etc. Badges are earned for each and everything you tackle and pass. This is much the same as when you become a Christian; you learn how to be-lieve in something you cannot see. You don’t, however, earn badges for your walk in faith, you earn far more, you earn love. Being prepared in your Christian life has a wide range of im-plications: You need to study the scriptures and understand them, you need to share your love and not be selfi sh with it. You need to share your faith with others, but fi rstly, you need to build your faith.

Living a Christian life is not as easy as one thinks, but it can be made a lot easier if we obey God and believe that the Holy Spirit will guide us in all our doings. Oft en in today’s modern world we will be scoff ed at, insulted, called names and expect-ed to be perfect. But God does not work with perfect people, He works with those who admit they are not perfect but are willing to do His will.

In the mad rush to prepare for Christmas day, we, as Chris-tians rush about, buying presents and food and the businesses smile. We oft en get into so much debt that we suff er in the long run. We oft en forget what is the most important thing and why we celebrate Christmas. It should not be about us, but about Christ. Do we prepare for His coming or do we just get on with our lives as normal?

I think that there is something magical about Christmas when we share our love for others, but most importantly when we share our love for Christ. Because it is by God’s grace that we are able to celebrate. Life is too short to have regrets, we need to confi rm our faith at all times and need to be more Christ-like in our dealings with others, or we may fi nd that we have lost out when Christ comes again. Have faith, Believe and honour God.

Blessings.

With the festive season already upon us, most consumers will be gett ing bonuses and some will be spending like there is no tomor-row. The National Credit Regulator (NCR) warns consumers to spend wisely and think about January as it is just around the corner.

For many, the festive season is a time for giving and for people to spoil them-selves for working hard throughout the year. “However, it is important to note that spoiling oneself may come at a price”, says Mpho Ramapala, Education & Commu-nication Manager at the NCR. We need to budget and plan way in advance before we can actually spoil ourselves during the fes-tive season. “If you want to go on holiday, you should start planning for the holiday and saving for it earlier in the year, not dur-ing the last month”, says Ramapala.

For those consumers who will be gett ing bonuses, plan accordingly, budget and save for January expenses. Most people will be paid around mid-December and again at the end of January, you need to ensure that your salary / bonus paid in December will last you up until your next pay cheque in January. “These bonuses should rather be used to pay debts”, she adds.

Should consumers fi nd that they are bat-tling to pay their debts, Ramapala advis-es such consumers to contact their credit providers to negotiate lower repayments or contact a debt counsellor for assistance. Debt counselling is meant for over-indebted consumers and it is not free of charge.

Below Ramapala shares tips of spending wisely during and aft er the festive season:

If you want to begin the New Year in a fi -

nancially sound position, be aware of how you spend your money during this period and save for the New Year;

Keep track of your spending by either jott ing down or keeping the receipts of all your spending;

Request a pre-agreement statement and quotation when applying for credit. This will enable you to shop around and do a comparison on the cost of credit;

Read and understand your pre-agreement statement and quotation – if they off er you credit life insurance, seek clarity on what it actually covers;

Seek loans with NCR-registered credit providers. You can identify such credit pro-viders by a window decal (an orange sticker with the NCR logo) and a registration cer-tifi cate that will also state the NCR credit provider registration number;

Do not leave your identity documents, bank cards/pins and SASSA cards with credit providers when applying for cred-it. This is a criminal off ence. Report cases where your bank / SASSA cards and identi-ty documents were taken by credit provid-ers to your local police station;

Be wary of “buy now, pay aft er three months deals” and then incurring addition-al credit during those three months;

Do a budget for the festive season and include all debt, rent, electricity, water, in-surance, transport, gift s, entertainment etc;

When going shopping, have a shopping list to avoid buying unnecessary items;

Be proactive and double-up on your regu-lar payments such as mortgage or rent, lights and water (arrange with your credit provid-

ers). That way you will be able to aff ord costs such as school fees and uniform which will hit you at the start of the New Year;

Prioritise your home loan and rent;If you borrow money, make sure you bor-

row only for what is strictly necessary, and ensure that you can aff ord the repayments;

If you’re not sure of exactly how much you want to spend on each person’s present, it’s easy to get caught up in the moment and over-spend. Limit yourself to an amount for each person to help keep track of your spending;

Items such as school stationery, uniforms or other useful items are a bett er investment. Choose presents that last long aft er Xmas;

Instead of buying expensive presents, set up a savings fund and put away an amount for your loved ones each Christmas. Over time this will grow into a much bigger pot of money that can be used to fund school fees or pay off a car;

Entertain at home. Ask guests to bring something for the meal so you share the costs of your festive entertainment;

Each year, set up a separate fund for birth-day and Christmas presents as well as holi-days. Keeping this money separate will en-able you to save for special occasions, while at the same time fund your day-to-day living expenses without going into debt;

Use your bonus to reduce your debt bur-den by paying off existing loans;

Don’t forget to get a copy of your credit re-port from any credit bureau. This will assist you to know your fi nancial standing. Should you require an additional copy of your credit report within the same year, there will be a fee that credit bureaus will charge.

Consumers urged to curb spending spree

Eleven unemployed people from N’wamitwa didn’t just sit and fold their hands, when they struggled to fi nd employment — instead the residents combined their resources and de-termination to set up the Hluvukani Khubu Piggery Cooperative.

The co-op initiative start-ed in June 2010 aft er a com-munity meeting, which motivated them to stop complaining about lack of job opportunities and cre-ate opportunities for them-selves. They sat down and considered the results of a SWOT analysis and decid-ed on a piggery.

They now own about ninety pigs and piglets and also broiler chickens, which are sold to residents and lo-cal abatt oirs.

Aft er the project had been going for a while the group received training from the Limpopo Department of Agriculture. “The workshop was an eye-opener. We learnt how to construct a pigsty and got information on feedstock, immunisation and other important

aspects of pig farming,” explains Ms Selina Nukeri (50).

She says, “We then contributed R500 each over fi ve months. The money was used to make bricks for building pigsties and to buy thirteen piglets. A local ward councillor also

gave us two piglets”. Nukeri added that it had not been an easy journey.

In 2012 the project was registered as a co-operative with the help of the Small Enterprise Development Agency (Seda), who helped the group to draw up a business plan and apply for funding.

“The challenges we came across are that pigs and chickens can easily die, problems with electricity and theft . We rely on a gen-erator for the borehole and for lighting for the chickens. In September six adult pigs

were stolen, because we don’t have a proper fence,” said the secretary of the co-op, Ms So-phy Ngobeni (40).

Because of theft the group divided them-

selves into two groups to cater for day and night shift s — so that there can be people around for 24 hours per day, seven days per week.

Eleven people, nine women and two men, were involved in starting the project, but four later quit, because the project wasn’t making profi t. A 22-year-old girl also quit, since she decided to continue with tertiary studies.

“We are now ready to plough the fi elds and plant spinach, corn and cabbage,” said Ms An-nah Nkuna (55). “Last year we received funds from the Depart-ment of Social Development. We used the money to sink and equip a borehole, buy a generator and build the pigsty and a build-ing which is now used for the broiler chickens,” she said.

The members of the co-op have big dreams. They aim at becoming the lead-ing producers of pork meat, poultry and veg-etables in the N’wamitwa area. “We wish for the project to grow in order to reduce pover-ty by employing unemployed people in the

village. If we can fi nd a donor to provide us with proper fencing and electricity the pro-ject won’t be running at a loss.” said Ngobeni.

A number of Tzaneen men were keen participants in the Movem-ber drive in support of prostate cancer. Seen here are Messrs Pe-ter Smith, Roger Winnan, Athol, Alan Forbes, Dirk Eberhardt, Hilton Winnan, Bertie, Grant Kirkham and Colin Kirkham. Tra-ditionally, November is Prostate Cancer Awareness Month and is

supported by men all over South Africa. Participants simply allow their mustaches to grow for the whole month to show their sup-port; thus the term “Movember”. A small band of supporters from Tzaneen took up the cause and not only grew mustaches, but also raised funds for the fi ght against cancer. The organisers

thank the owner of Maximes Pub and Grill, for his generous dona-tion of the venue, R1 000 in cash as well as supplying delicious pizzas for the special occasion. Funds raised have been donat-ed to the Cancer Care Group in Tzaneen.

Festive Season wishes from SAPSBrig Thomas Shingange, the Saps Tza-neen Cluster Commander, would like to appreciate the welcoming positive spirit made by members of the SAPS and the general public in the Cluster since May when he took over. He has successfully dealt with all the crime hotspots and they are now closed.

The roots of all goodness lie in the soil of appreciation for goodness and a life lived with integrity — even if it lacks the trapping of fame and fortune — is a shining star in whose light oth-ers may follow in the years to come.

The challenges to be addressed by both the community and the Police in this Cluster are: the tendency of drinking in public, drunken driving, loud music at the liquor outlets which is causing serious public disturbance within the villages and townships.

“I wish all the Saps members, Sta and their families and the entire communities in the Tzaneen Clus-ter, a peaceful Merry Christmas and hap-py New Year.”

The festive spirit is in full swing and with it has come the annual tree dec-orating tradition. MEDICLINIC Tza-neen celebrated this tradition in a very untraditional way this year by launching a competition to not only decorate, but create an entire Christ-mas tree from recyclable materials. This fantastic initiative received a re-markable response from the local community and on Friday, three winners were announced and re-warded with pizza and drinks. The Most Beautiful award went to the radiology department who

constructed their tree from x-rays and glass bott les while the admin staff boast-ed the most original entry with their recycled polystyrene cups. The overall

A 35-year-old man who brutally killed a 29 year-old-woman at Ga-Madumane village appeared in the Bolobedu Magistrate’s Court on charges of murder on Monday.

The case against Ngwako Mathipa was re-manded to 7 December, to allow for further Police investigations and a formal bail appli-cation, said Sgt Rebotile Shai.

It is alleged that the suspect went to the de-ceased’s house at the nearby village of Mo-hlomeng. He threatened her with a knife and forcefully took her to his home at Ga-Mad-umane. She was later found dead inside a wheelbarrow in the suspect’s yard.

The deceased was identifi ed as Dikel-edi Mahasha from Mohlomeng village.Boy (16) charged with murder

A sixteen-year-old murder suspect and his 19-year-old alibi that accidentally shot and killed their friend appeared in the Giyani Magistrate’s Court on charges of murder and mishandling of a fi rearm on Wednesday.

The case against the sixteen-year-old boy and Matimu Rivele (19) was remanded to 14 December to allow for further Police investigations; the minor was transferred to Bosasa Youth Development Centre in Polokwane. Police have identifi ed the dead man as Given Baloyi (25).Murder suspect in Court

A 35-year-old man will appear in the Na-phuno Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday in connection with the murder of a taxi

operator and att empted murder of two other people. Hendrick Shai (35) allegedly shot and killed Maruping Malatji (24) and injured two other people. The suspect allegedly shot the victim at Lorraine village in the Ga-Sekororo area. The motive for the att ack was believed to be a confl ict among taxi operators over routes between Lorraine and Johannesburg.

Calls disturb Maake SAPSThe police in Maake experience a serious

problem with children who frequently make calls to the police station and satellites. The children call the police station every fi ve min-utes anytime of the day; they insult and give false information to offi cers who subsequent-ly dispatch police to wrong places.

“These calls nega-tively aff ect the ser-vice delivery by the police because a lot of time, energy and human resources are misused and concen-trated on false com-plaints, and police work become less eff ective,” said Const Malesela Magoro.

The Police appeal to all the citizens to monitor their children, their cell phones and their use of public and home telephones. Children

should be highlighted and advised about the dangers of making false calls to emergency ser-vices and the Police. Anyone who is found mak-ing false calls will be arrested and prosecuted.

Anyone with information about children who make false calls should contact Maake SAPS on 015 355 8358/.

Just over 300 mountain bikers took part in the annual Magoebaskloof MTB Classic, hosted by Stanford Lake College. The race is widely considered one of the toughest one-day mountain biking races in the country, with big climbs and steep, tech-nical descents. But the spectacular riding and scenery more than make up for it.

The race is also a charity event, with all

proceeds going to Rotary Haenertsburg who then use the money raised for vari-ous community service projects. This year the riders raised R10 000 for charity.

The conditions were challenging as the heat wave that had been experienced made for some sweltering riding condi-tions, but the riders did not let it damp-en their enthusiasm. The riders all paid a

moving tribute to Paul Wilkinson, a Stan-ford parent, who sadly passed away at the Berg and Bush mountain biking stage race.

Stanford Riders dominated the 40 km race with a few top ten fi nishes, with La-chlan Truesdale coming second overall in the men’s and Reese Bain winning the overall ladies race.
