http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/bullet-08-12-for-08-15-10 1/13
A prayer for our church....
Lord Jesus, we pray that you will somehow give us ears to hear,
hearts to love and wills devoted to serve; that in the days to come
this congregation may be known not for our glory but for thinealone - a congregation of people who know you; that this place
may be an oasis, a place where people come to find out about
you, where lives are straightened out and made whole, where
people find the peace that passes understanding.
Give us, we pray, a heart to desire these things above all else. We pray through Jesus Christ.
Amen.

From the Operation Christmas Child Shoebox Team
MIS-CONCEPTIONS about WHAT HAPPENS TO A SHOEBOX
at CHARLOTTE Processing Center
FALSE: Shoeboxes are emptied and repackaged into standardsize shoeboxes.
The only time a shoebox is emptied is if the box has beendamaged by either the way it was handled on its way to the
processing center or someone didn’t follow the rules in requires to NO LIQUIDS and the liquid hasleaked and damaged not only the box but the contents as well. The processing center has aSHOEBOX HOSPITAL where the box is either re-packed into a good shoebox or in case of the wetbox, contents salvaged as possible and re-boxed.
The logistics of re-packing the roughly 2 million boxesprocessed at Charlotte would be impossible.
FALSE: When a box is processed, multiples of itemsare picked out of the box and given to another box.
The INTEGRITY of the shoebox is to be maintained atall times. When the box is processed, it is examined forliquids, food, military type and camo items, andbreakables. Any of that is removed, collected, and given toone of 300 charities in the Charlotte area. There is ample filler material available at Charlotte toreplace any item removed. People filling a shoebox need to remember the basics: NO Liquids, NOFood due to the attraction of bugs, NO Military or Camo as many of the boxes are shipped to wartorn areas, and NO breakables due to damaging other items and possibly injury to the child going
through a shoebox gift.A list of acceptable items as well as the DO and DON’T of shoebox filling willbe included in wrapped shoeboxes available September 19th.
Once a shoebox is processed at Charlotte, it is sorted by age and sex and placed in a carton packbox which will hold 14 to 16 other shoeboxes. Approximately 143,000 carton boxes leaving out ofCharlotte with roughly 2 million shoeboxes means 2 million children will receive a gift. Rememberlast years’ collection resulted in over 8 million shoeboxes delivered worldwide.
Often asked what if one child gets a sandal size box and another child gets a size 11 shoebox? Many of these children have never received a gift. They will be appreciative for what they are given. You can use smaller scale items in a smaller box and larger scale items in a bigger box. Linda’s
rule of thumb: The larger the box, the larger the stuffed animal going in the box. If you havequestions, ask Amy, Donna, Janet, or Linda.
Don’t forget to be shopping those back to school sales for crayons, pencils, sharpeners, paper, and socks. We need filler material for the Youth Assemblyand the GA/RA party.
Wrap Party September 18, 9AM - Noon. Pick up Shoeboxes Sunday, Sept. 19.

The 2010 See You at the Pole™
Theme is Reveal based on the Lord's Prayer in Matthew 6:9–13.The Message Bible states the Lord’s Prayer like this:
With a God like this loving you, you can pray very simply. Like this: Our Father in
heaven, Reveal who you are. Set the world right; Do what's best—as above, so below.
Keep us alive with three square meals. Keep us forgiven with you and forgiving others.
Keep us safe from ourselves and the Devil. You're in charge! You can do anything you
want! You're ablaze in beauty! Yes. Yes. Yes.
For twenty years now, See You at the Pole™ has been about students leading out in
prayer, asking God to reveal Who He is on campuses all over the United States and theworld. JOIN THE MOVEMENT.....
On Wednesday, September 22, at 7 a.m., GATHER at your school flagpole, PRAY foryour school, friends, families, and world. ASK God to REVEAL Who He is to yourcampus. Pray for AWAKENING.

New Women’s Bible Study
‘One in a Million’Journey to Your Promised Land
by: Priscilla Shirer
Out of approximately 2 million delivered out of Egypt - only2 (Joshua & Caleb) actually walked into the Promised Land.
Am I one who will trust God to deliver me from“captivity” and walk by faith into the Promised Life
He planned for me?
We will be encouraged to fully engage in the abundant life God has waiting for those who will allow Him to take the lead in daily living.
One in a Million is an opportunity for you to experience your deliverance from strongholds, to conquer your wilderness living, and to claim your
God-given inheritance.
This Scriptural study will empower women to know why they can believe in God’s promises.
Participants will be encouraged to overcome their discouragement as they gain support and accountability from other women on the same journey.
WILL YOU BE THE ONE?

ALMA HUNT OFFERING 2010Alma Hunt was a Virginia born, world renown Baptist leader,
having served 26 years as WMU National Executive Director and
after retirement as a national and international missions advocate.Until her death at age 98, her sacrificial service was an example forall Virginia Baptists to emulate. Thus, the State Missions Offeringof Virginia was named in her honor in 1998.
The theme for 2010 is “OPENING DOORS,” based off ofJohn 10:9-10: “I am the door. If anyone enters by Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture. 10 The thief does
not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.” (NKJV)
The Alma Hunt Offering for Virginia Missions makes possible special ministries, outreachprojects, and initiatives that are not funded through regular streams of giving but areuniquely connected to Virginia Baptists.
WLBC’s goal for Virginia Missions is $5,000 towards the state goal of $1,167,500.
