My Surprise Birthday By Emma Fisher
I came home from Laser Bounce, with my three friends who were going to
sleep over, and SUPRISE! My other friends, who did not come to Laser Bounce,
were at my home! I jumped back and my face showed my surprise! “Wow” I said,
“This is so cool!”
First we painted the first letter in our first name. Then we went into my room
and jumped off my bed, and onto my brother’s bed.
After that, we ate pizza. Then they all left, except for the three who were
sleeping over. In my opinion, you should have a surprise birthday party too!

All about Me! By Gabriella Papadatos
My name is Gabriella Papadatos. I am 10 years old and my birthday is in
December. I am in 4th grade this year, and I love to sing and dance. My teachers
are Mrs. Townsend and Ms. Jochade. They are amazing!
I have two different heritages, Greek and Italian, and I am very proud of
who I am. My family is loud sometimes and quiet other times. The people in my
family include my mommy, my daddy, and my brothers.
We have one pet in our family, our fish. His name changes all the time. In
our house, whoever feeds the fish gets to name the fish for that day. My brother
Yianni, names it “Goldie”. My brother Apostoli and my dad, name it “Fatty”. I
name it “Fatty the Fat Goldfish”. My mom hasn’t fed it yet, so we don’t know
what she would name it!

My Trip to Italy!
The Colosseum, Rome, Italy
By Mya Farrelly
Over the February break, my family and I went to Italy. On the plane, I sat
with my brother Gavin. It took us 8 hours to get there, overnight, and we slept on
the plane.
After we landed in Milan, we drove 1 hour to get to the house we were
renting. The next day, we went to Barbaresco. Barbaresco is an ancient town with a
tower, where there are a lot of farms, vineyards, and really good food! We climbed
the tower and could see the whole town from the top.
The day after that, we went to Rome. We took a train and it only took 3
hours to get there. But the train went 250 miles per hour! Rome is the capital of
Italy. We were able to walk to the Colosseum and the Roman Forum from our
apartment. The Colosseum is where they used to put on shows and have fights. But
the people who fought risked their lives. They were called gladiators.
The best restaurant we ate in, while in Rome, was Spirito DiVino. It is in the
oldest building in Rome, even older than the Colosseum! The owner even let us go
all the way down the stairs to see the original parts of the building. They made the
red sauce just for us. That's why I loved it so much. We went two times, because it
was so good. The first time was on Tuesday night and then we went on our last
day, when we celebrated my Dad’s birthday!
On Wednesday, we went to the Spanish Steps. We climbed 3 flights of
stairs. In total there are 135 steps. At the top of the steps is a big church. At the
bottom there is a fountain.
The Spanish Steps in Rome Mya in Rome, Italy
That same day we went to the Trevi Fountain. It was beautiful! We were taking a
picture and then I spotted our grandma and grandpa. I totally forgot about the
picture and ran to them. I didn’t even know they were coming! Neither did my
mom, or my two brothers (Brayden and Gavin). But my dad knew! He had known
since December and helped my grandma and grandpa plan the surprise trip. At the
Trevi fountain, we all threw a coin in, which means that one day we all have to
return to Rome.
The Trevi Fountain
On Thursday we went to the catacombs. My grandma and grandpa went with
us. I didn’t like it because it was dark. The catacombs are underground tunnels and
that’s where they buried people a long time ago.
Finally, on Friday, we went to Vatican City and the Sistine Chapel. The
Sistine Chapel is one of the most important chapels in all of Italy, and maybe even
the world. Vatican City is where the Pope lives, and there are a lot of beautiful
artworks and sculptures inside. You can't take pictures inside the Sistine Chapel
because it is so old and it is so special to the Catholic religion.
St. Peter’s Basilica
We had to come back the next day, but I really wanted to stay. I can't wait to go
back to Italy, you should go too!

Into The Hot Sun
By Juliette Dubovy
My cousin Leslie and Great-Aunt Phyllis both live in Melbourne, Florida.
Orlando, the big city where Disney World is located, is one hour North of
Melbourne. We travel a lot to Florida. When we travel to Florida I go with my
family. It’s so much fun to go there! We always stay, at my cousin’s house, for
five to six days. Great-Aunt Phyllis’ house has a colorful guest room. It is green
and blue. She also owns a rectangular pool, with a large concrete deck. I also like
going to the beach with Leslie.
Leslie has five cats and one dog, so when I wake up I hear cats meowing.
Every day we walk the dog, whose name is Missy. I love giving treats to Missy.
Sometimes when I give Missy a treat she rolls over, or does a trick. Missy is
actually quite nice to the cats. She rarely barks at any of the five cats in the house.
One of the cats is named Pepper, but I never see him. Pepper has gray and white
stripes. He always hides. Once I did find him and he hissed at me. Pepper was
discovered sitting behind the TV.
Sometimes Leslie invites many friends to the house for big parties. At my
cousin’s house, there is always something exciting to do! I always go swimming in
the pool there. One time my friend, Jasmine, came over and we went in the pool. I
was not so good with my swimming skills then (except for holding my breath).
After several weeks of lessons, I have improved a lot. Now I can’t wait until I
jump into that pool!

Dani’s House of Pizza By Dylan Hernandez
Dani’s is a restaurant located at 81-28 Lefferts Blvd, in Kew Gardens, New
York. It has been a landmark since 1959, and was founded by Ramiz Dani. The pizza
has a delicious sweet sauce. I also enjoy the food there. They sell baked clams,
mussels, and more. Since my brother worked there for a while, he knows the owner,
and I usually get free food. Every time I’m in Queens I go to Dani’s.

Ape Escape is a game by Sony Japan Studios, where a white haired circus
monkey, named Specter, has to obtain a helmet known as the Peak Point Helmet
(aka Pipo Helmet for short). This helmet boosts his intelligence.
After equipping an army of monkeys with Pipo Helmets, and using an
enhanced helmet for himself, Specter sends his monkey army to take over the
world, and space. It is up to the games protagonists, equipped with various
gadgets, to capture the monkeys and restore the world.
The game is pretty fun. I have played it with RetroPie, which you have heard
me talk about in the Megaman Legends article.

Marvel Universe Live!
By Christopher Ruiz & Benjamin Canellas
Marvel Universe Live, which is a live arena show, was so much fun. There
were the Guardians of the Galaxy (I am Groot!) and the Avengers. There was
Hulk, Iron Fist, Iron Man, and a favorite Black Panther too.
The show was about all the characters going on a mission to stop Loky from
becoming King of Asgard and Earth. We think some of the people who starred in
the show had to be gymnasts, or martial artists. They probably taught everyone else
how to do certain flips and jumps!
The show was about an hour and a half long, with one intermission. We both
got some stuff from the store. Ben got a hat. Chris got an icy cup. The tickets were
$15 and up. We both saw it at the Nassau Coliseum. “Five stars!” said Ben. We
both loved the show. It definitely was a fun family night out!

MLB the Show 17 By Ryan Rieger
MLB the Show 17 is a game for all baseball fans around the world.
In the game you can go on the road to the show, but you need to get through 3
leagues, Double A, Triple A Minors, and then you can get to the majors, or the
MLB. After a couple of games in some random league, you get in the MLB draft
and you can skip to when you are picked. I would rate this because the
graphics are spot on!

D.I.Y. Projects & Recipes
Mini Egg Cake
By Chloe Prete, and Juliana Lupis
Ingredients for the Cake:
335grams Softened Butter/Baking Spread
335grams Caster Sugar
335grams Self-rising Flour
6 X Eggs
2 Tsp Vanilla Extract
1 ½ Tsp Baking Powder
Ingredients for the Buttercream:
800grams Icing Sugar
250grams Softened Butter
2 Tsp Vanilla Extract
3-4 Tbsp. Milk
Ingredients for the Filling:
1 Batch of Dark Chocolate Ganache
Decorations:
600grams of Cadbury's Mini Eggs
Directions:
Pre-heat the oven to 180C/350F. Next in a large mixing bowl, mix together the
caster sugar and softened butter/baking spread until the ingredients become paler in
color.
2. Add the vanilla extract and then add the eggs one at time and mix.
3. Add the self-rising flour and baking powder and mix until all of the dry
ingredients are fully incorporated.
4. Pour the cake mixture into three 20cm lined baking tins and smooth the top.
5. Bake the cakes for 20-25 minutes. The cakes should be golden brown, and when
a skewer is placed, through the middle of the cake, the skewer will come out clean.
6. Let the cake cool on a wire rack for 30 minutes. Now make the ganache, in a
separate bowl. Break up the chocolate into small pieces and then heat the double
cream until the cream starts to simmer. Once the cream is simmering pour the
cream over the chocolate and mix until all the chocolate has melted. Divide the
ganache into two bowls: one for the cake filling and the other for the top of the
cake.
7. Now to make the buttercream place the softened butter into a large mixing bowl
and mix until the butter becomes paler in color. Now add the icing sugar and
vanilla extract and mix again. Slowly add the milk until you get a spreadable
consistency.
8. Transfer the buttercream to a piping bag fitted with a Wilton Large Round tip.
Then place one layer of cake onto a serving plate and pipe a ring of buttercream
around the outside of the cake and then place half of the ganache in the middle of
the cake.
9. Repeat this process again for the next layer of cake and then coat the cake with
buttercream, here is a tutorial on how to do this.
10. Once the cake is coated with buttercream, place the cake in the fridge for 30
minutes.
11. Once the ganache has cooled to around body temperature, remove the cake
from the fridge. Next, pour the ganache into a squeeze bottle, this will help you to
make nice clean ganache drips. Squeeze the ganache over the cake and then with
an offset spatula carefully push the ganache over the side of the cake to get the drip
effect.
12. Let the ganache set for 5 minutes and then place the Cadbury's Mini Eggs over
the top of the cake.

Why I like Karate By Jake Sackman.
I do karate and I am a Blue Belt. I do Junior BBC, which means I spar and
do all sorts of moves. We take our gear off and play games too. We use some
Japanese words also. “Ichie” tells about our meeting. Sensei means teacher in
Japanese. Our sensei tells a joke if you do a move well. He will say, “If you do a
move well today, you will get a free hamster.” He’ll also tell us you will get
brownie points if you do a move well! That is why I like karate.
