COACHES CORNER B DET ACHMENT 106TH FMCO FRG NEWSLETTER May 2012 PAGE 2

With the 2012 USAG Ansbach CYSS Sports and Fitness Baseball season amongst us, two groups of Bulldogs took it upon themselves to register as coaches and lead their respective teams to glory. SSG Dimas Fonseca, SGT Miguel Miranda, SGT Esdras Garcia, and SPC Quintin Braimah coach the Ansbach Blue Jays from the Junior Division while SPC Lukasz Michalowicz, PFC Yoh Han Park, PFC Stephanie Rosales, and PFC Sal Griffith lead the Ansbach Marlins from the Minor Division. All coaches were certified through the National Youth Sports Coaches Association after receiving classes on child abuse prevention, identification and reporting, and first aid and CPR. The Ansbach Blue Jays have 18 players aged 12 to 15 representing the IMCOM-Europe Eastern League that consists of teams from Hohenfels, Grafenwoehr, Bamberg, and Schweinfurt. Their first game was held at the opening ceremony on Katterbach Kaserne against Hohenfels on 21 April. While off to a rocky start the Blue Jays are currently 0-4 in the season. The Marlins currently have 15 players that practice Monday and Wednesday weekly from 1700 to 1800. The Marlins are currently 4-1 in their season and while their record shows a great amount of potential, Coach Rosales lets us know that it is not all about winning. Coach Rosales said “I am thankful that I was given the opportunity to be an assistant coach to the Marlins. From week one to now, I have been able to see the growth in their baseball skills as well as with each other. They work great together as a team, which has resulted in our very successful season so far. It’s still not over yet-we are still pushing them at practice so we can finish out the season strong. “ The Blue Jays currently have 2 more games left in their regular season before there IMCOM European League Championships which are being held between 9 June and 10 June. Meanwhile the Marlins have 3 more games in their regular season with their last game being held on 2 June. Come out and show your support to both teams.

PLAY BALL!!!

Did You Know..... The average life span of a major league baseball is 5-7 pitches. Babe Ruth put a cabbage leaf under his hat during every game. He would change it for a new

one every 2 innings.

Flight Simulator Training On May 3rd the Bravo Bulldogs got a little different taste of STT. After conducting a Consideration of Others (CO2) class, the Bulldogs got on the road to Illesheim, where the only Blackhawk simulator in Europe was awaiting their arrival. After a brief introduction to the machine, and a quick class on basic functions of the Blackhawk cabin, CW2 Humphreys got in the simulator with the Soldiers to ensure their training was not only educational, but also fun! From taking off, flying sideways, upside down, bouncing off the ground, to attempting a landing the Soldiers of Bravo got a real good feel of what kind of training actual pilots go through. “Great!” SPC Antar was speechless after he came out of the simulator. Although Bravo Bulldogs are Finance’s best Soldiers, there is a real good chance we have a few future pilots in our ranks and can better appreciate the skills of our local ‘customers’. Overall, the team was extremely pleased with the experience and very grateful for the opportunity! - SPC Michalowicz

March 14 , 2012 marked the 6 month anniversary of the B. Det Volunteer Program. The detachment has racked up 1068 hours amongst them!

On 21 April 2011, the "Bulldogs help the BOSS program set up stage for the upcoming concert "Taking Back Sunday". The event had a large group of Soldiers not only from the Bulldogs, but neighboring units as well. The concert was a great success; a crowd of 400 plus attended. Colonel Lawler, the Garrison Commander, also went on stage and played the drums with the opening act. The following Saturday, our Bulldogs participated with the Ansbach Spouse Civilian Club (ASCC) in recognizing "South Pacific Heritage Month". We wore Hawaiian style clothing, and served the community with special dishes specific to each Island.- PFC Whyte

Dress Inspection

SFC Byrd held a Detachment Dress inspection on May 8, 2012. SFC Byrd always reminds Bravo Det. that they are all professionals. When the uniform is put on you need to look professional no matter what occasion it is. SFC Byrd as well as the Squad Leaders moved up and down each squad with the Enlisted Record Brief in hand to ensure badges, awards, and ribbons were correctly displayed on each Soldier’s uniform. It is important that the leadership helps their Soldiers maintain the proper standards of dress and appearance IAW AR-670-1 It has been said that open-ranks inspections in the U.S. military date back to the late 1700s when General George Washington sought to instill discipline and order amongst the citizen Soldiers of revolutionary forces.
