Rugged, DurableConstruction for Years of Reliable ServiceMetalfab Bulk Bag Unloaders areengineered to provide a safer, dependable,low cost, dust free means for emptying awide variety of powders and other difficult tohandle dry bulk materials from bulk bags.They are designed to accommodate lined,reusable, and disposable (one way) bagsweighing up to 4000 lbs. plus, and will empty an entire bag of product into bins, hoppers,feeders, and conveyors on demand.

To assure discharge of product, the ruggedlybuilt pyramidal-shaped unloader is mountedon wear resistant rubber isolators thateliminate transmission of vibration to thesupport stand or plant floor. A time tested,field proven Metalfab Vibrator is mounted tothe unloader and can be adjusted to providevarying levels of force needed to dischargeproduct from the bag. All Metalfab vibratorsare ruggedly built and are available in TENVand explosion-proof enclosures.

Simple, Safe, and Dust Free OperationMetalfab Bulk Bag Unloaders are easilyoperated by one person–saving on labor andoperating costs. Each unloader also featuresa thick elastomer inlet seal that accommo-dates different size bags. This flexible seal–unique to Metalfab Unloaders–contracts as the bag empties to ensure a dust free operation.

To start the unloading process, the operatorlowers the bag containing the product ontothe unloader, opens the door to the accesschamber, reaches up and unties the bagdrawstring. The operator then pulls the bagspout down before untying the spout andclosing the access door. An in-house dustcollector can be attached to a 4˝ diameteropen dust port to provide additionalassurance of a dust free atmosphere while the access door is open. The door is gasketed and easily closes with two T-handle vice closures. Activation of thevibrator allows the discharge process tobegin–ensuring safe, dust free operationwith no product waste.

A Choice of Models to Meet Virtually AnyUnloading Requirement

Metalfab Bulk Bag Unloaders areavailable in three standard modelsto suit varying application require-ments and budgetary needs. Three18˝ tall side guides attached to theunloader frame are available foreach model and help the operatorlocate the bag during the loadingprocedure. They also help maintainthe bag in proper position duringdischarge.

Basic Models are used forrelatively free flowing materials.

These vibrated or nonvibrated unitsinclude an access chamber with door,side guides, and unique flexible inletseal. Contact parts are available incarbon steel, epoxy-coated carbonsteel, and 304 or 316 stainless steel.The external structure is carbon steelthat is primed and painted in blueenamel. If a dedicated plant hoist or forklift is used to position bags for emptying, the unloader can besupplied less the support frame andwith four pedestals to mount theisolators to the customer supports.

Mid Level Models are offered with the unloader, inclusive of an access chamber and door, acomplete support structure for theequipment and bulk bag, vibrator and isolators, and adjustable bag rack.The support structure holds the bagrack and can be adjusted vertically toaccommodate any bag height. Thebag rack holds the bag by its strapsfor loading, unloading and duringdischarge with a forklift or overheadplant hoist. Materials of constructionand finish are the same as thestandard model.

Top Level Models include the unloaderwith access chamber and door, supportstructure for the equipment and bulk bag,vibrator and isolators, and an extendedoverhead I-beam at the top of the unloaderto support an integrated hoist and trolley.Hoists are normally electric with pneumatichoists optional. Trolleys can be manual orelectrically powered. All frames are struc-turally modified to support the added weight of the trolley and hoist. Materials ofconstruction and finish are the same as theBasic and Mid Level Models. Metalfab alsooffers other unloader designs to handlesmaller, larger or heavier bulk bags.

Accommodation of a Wide Range of Bag Styles and SizesMetalfab Bulk Bag Unloaders are alsoengineered to accommodate the wide rangeof bag styles and sizes found in today'smarketplace. Several optional devices areavailable to accommodate the following typeof bags and/or process operating conditions:

Disposable (One Way) SpoutlessBags are safely handled with Metalfab'sintegrated Four-Bladed Knife. Two designs–one bolted in place and the other verticallyadjustable–are available. As a spoutless,nonrefillable bag is lowered into place, theknife blades symmetrically cut the bag into a four-sided flap opening through whichproduct flows freely.

Bag Liners are easily handledwith a pneumatically-powered,rubber covered pulley assemblyheld in bearings and fixed to thecenter of the bag rack with two"quick action" clamps. When thelined bag is placed into properposition for discharge, the bag issuspended from the bag rack whilethe liner is clamped to the pulley.In operation, the pulley's air

powered rotary actuator maintains aconstant "pull" on the liner to prevent it fromexiting the bag along with product. It alsoretracts the liner into the bag when it isempty. A four-way manual valve, air filter,and regulator are supplied by Metalfab andare mounted in the area of the unloader.

Partially Empty Bags occasionally needto be removed from the unloader. The bagspout often contains product that is difficultto tie off manually. To deal with this problem,Metalfab offers a closure device that has two horizontally-opposed, pneumatically-operated cylinders with semicircular shutoffblades which rest on horizontal guides.These blades are housed in a dust tightenclosure with an inlet equal in diameter tothe bag spout and an outlet of the same sizeor larger. During operation, the bag spoutextends 12˝-16˝ below the shutoff bladesand can be closed off within seconds whenthe operator activates the pneumatic closuredevice while product is flowing from the bag. The access chamber is then opened,allowing the operator to tie off the spoutmanually. The Metalfab closure device alsofeatures an integral, door-mounted safetyswitch, which is activated when the door isopen to prevent the "locked" blades fromadvancing or retracting while the door is open.

All these optional devices are available inthe same product contact parts as theunloader to eliminate product contamination.

Many control options areavailable with the system to suit specificcustomer needs.
