9. Almost a year ago you had your own rstexhibition; Memories in space. Were you hap -
py with it? What do you think about exhibi-
tions after you had one of your own?
Actually I wasnt very aware that this exhibition washappening until everything begun. I was of course veryhappy. The exhibition space was interesting. But it waslike I really wasnt aware that it was about me and Iactually had to take part. I was going to Istanbul backthen and I couldnt control everything concerning theprinting and stuff, it was like I was absent physically andemotionally. It was hard to choose the photos for theexhibition and I am never happy when I have to picksome of my pictures for anything. I always think I couldhave done much better. In the end there was a melan-cholic line that connected all the pictures. It was a beautiful small quiet exhibition.
And I really want to do it again. I would have donemany things differently of course.

10. What are your short term and long termplans concerning photography?
Ah, plans...I really dont have big plans. I rst want tograduate and then Ill see.
Im doing small steps but it wouldnt be a bad thing tobe a little more ambitious, or at least more organized
:)For now Im just thinking and preparing some exhibi-tions. And some projects but I wouldnt talk about
them until they are certain. Still, some small thingsare happening and they make me happy.

Project story:
Ricki Lindsey, 21, was born a male - Richard Jona-
than Lindsey. She has identi ed as a woman pub -licly for 3 months. She takes a female name andbegins dressing and living as a girl. The daughterof a single mother and an abusive father, she hasalways recognized femininity as her true source of strength. Ricki feels free at home. It has alwaysbeen her sanctuary - no one can hurt her there. She lives with two roommates. One is a bisexualmale, who is sometimes a female impersonator. The other, left, is a straight man. Ricki often vis-its club Chronos in Washington, DC. The nightlife is the only time when she can function as awoman and be seen by others as a woman. Rickisfriends are her family. There are only four peoplestill living who are related to her by blood. Theonly time she feels beautiful is when she is out asa woman. For Ricki, having curves and being plus-sized is a source of self con dence. Transgenderwomen start life as a mirror image of what they
want to become. Testicles are fake and breastsare real. Ricki will be incomplete until the waterballoons she stuffs inside her bra are replaced byreal esh. Her body is nowhere near as importantto her as her face. When Ricki looks in the mirrorand sees the face of a woman, she feels whole.Complete. Real. While removing her make-up, shestrips away pieces of herself. As it comes off, sheis putting a mask back on. Performing the functionof a man is a source of shame to her. In the tinymoments in between, she is reminded that she isnot physically a woman. This is painful. Even inher own skin, she feels alien and alone. Her moth-er was her hero. She died in 2006. Rickis entireidentity as a transgender woman is based on hermother as a role model. Good night, mamma. Ilove you., Ricki says when she touches her moth-ers face on the photo, I dont feel safe anymore. She is gone., Ricki whispers.
