COMMITTEE REPORTS Events Committee Chair is Kim Piazza The events committee continues to ramp up meetings and events! We try to put new and exciting spins on our annual and monthly events. The August picnic was held at the SICBA office, and if you missed it, you missed a great event despite the smokey haze. Random Acts of Food provided an amazing meal with lots of choices, ice cream, soda, and other tasty beverages were available. It was a great opportunity to network with new members. The next event is the SICBA Home Tour kickoff event to be held at Lorenzo's Mexican Restaurant on College Way in Mount Vernon on Thursday September 13th at 5:00 pm. This will be a buffet style meal. Please attend this event, Builders with homes on the tour are especially encouraged to attend as this is when the awards will be given out. Make sure to RSVP on www.SICBAEvents.com for this event so the correct amount of food can be prepared!! If you enjoy planning events, we invite you to join the Events Committee! Next year is SICBA’s 40th Anniversary and we want to plan a lot of fun and exciting events, so the more minds, the better! Home and Garden Show Chair is Ben Sousa SICBA would still LOVE to have 10 playhouses for the 10th anniversary of playhouses, but we know how busy everyone is. So, we thought of an additional plan and that is to have local High schools to participate with supervision of a contractor from SICBA to oversee. That being said, we need playhouses and help! Please contact Lianna with your questions or to tell her that you’re in. Water!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We hope to take care of the outdoor puddles to increase outdoor booth space. Please let the committee know if you have suggestions or if you would be willing to help. Looking for ideas for other outdoor items to complement the Garden section of our show. Again, contact Lianna. A lot of other things took place at the meeting. Join in at the next Home Show Committee meeting on September 20th at 8am. Breakfast will be provided by Craft Stove!!!!!!! Membership Committee Chair is Roy Mureno The smoke is clearing and Fall is on the way! As we go into harvest season let’s think about seed selection for our new crop of members. Qualify your recruits – who do you know that would be a good member? Keep talking to them – it takes an average of 7 contacts to close. Keep sowing those seeds and let’s grow our membership with the best! September is our Fall Membership Drive, and for each new member you recruit, you get triple Spike points and of course you qualify for the Peer to Pier Cruise! (The Cruise is September 28th and your new member’s application needs to be in by the 21st to go on the Cruise this year, but if it’s later you still qualify for next year.) Your new recruit for September also gets to go on the cruise, and in addition as part of the Fall Drive they get 2 free tickets to SICBA’s Christmas Dinner and Installations! If you have a potential recruit that’s been on the fence, now is the time to close – if you need help closing, contact Jonathan at (360)757-6916 or [email protected]. Happy hunting! SICBA Home Tour Chair: Curtis Banta The Home Tour Committee is excited to announce the culmination of its efforts, The Home Tour is September 14th, 15th and 16th. This year we have 13 homes on the tour in Skagit, Island and North Snohomish Counties. There will be food trucks at selected locations this year. Come join us at the Home Tour Kickoff on September 13th 5:00PM at Lorenzo’s. We have exciting new awards categories to be awarded at the kickoff.

Thank-You, Associates!

September is Associate Appreciation Month! September is Associate Member Appreciation Month—an opportunity for us to recognize and thank Associate members for all they do for both the Association and other members’ businesses.

Think about the time they give to the Association through their work on committees, at meetings and events, or on community service projects. You can always count on the Associates to be there and pitch in to help.

Associates’ Memberships in SICBA are a key factor in making the organization financially strong through their membership dues, sponsorship dollars, advertising revenue and event registrations. Associates also contribute to our Political Action Committee, adding to the strength of our political voice.

And why do they do this? When asked that question, one Associate answered, “We don’t sponsor because we have to. We sponsor out of loyalty to an Association that is on the firing line every day working to better the climate for the building industry.” Another responded, “It’s important for me to support the industry that I rely on.”

This type of loyalty to the Building Industry is worth far more than this article’s “thank you” can deliver. One of the best ways for us to thank and celebrate our Associate members is to do business with them!

It’s a motto that you’ve heard countless times – Do Business with a Member. Make sure it’s not just a slogan but also a way of doing business. Let them know the reason you are doing business with them is because they are SICBA members. When a member does not renew, one of the reasons given is “I didn’t get any business from SICBA members”, but in reality – maybe they just didn’t realize which clients are members or were referred to them by members. Thank you for working with Associates who support our Association and industry.

Of course, the Association is a team of both Associates and Builders. Like the Associates, Builders give their time to work on committees, attend meetings regularly, and make this Association team a vibrant and successful force in the building community.

Whether you are a Builder or an Associate, try to carve out time to interact with your fellow team members. Come on out to the meetings and events! Meet and talk with those who give their expertise to the industry and their support to the Association. The next Membership event is our September Member Mixer and Home Tour Kick-Off, on Thursday, September 13th at Lorenzo’s in Mount Vernon, followed by the Annual SICBA Home Tour, Friday September 14th through Sunday, September 16th. And don’t forget the Peer to Pier Cruise on September 28th!

But regardless of your attendance at meetings, or participation on committees – “Thank You” to each and every member for your financial support and strength your membership gives to SICBA’s voice of the Building Industry!
