& N T R O D ' $ T & O N Bamboo is a versatile, strong, renewable andenvironment friendly material. It is a member of the grassfamily, the fastest growing woody plant on the planet. It adapts

to most climatic conditions and soil types. It is exceedingly strong for its weight and can be usedboth structurally and as a nish material. Bamboo is recognizedas one of the most important non-timber forest resourcesbecause of the high socio-economic benets from bamboobased products. Bamboo can be recombined into useful

products and elements such as ooring, ceiling, walls, partitionwalls, trusses, domes, etc.A & % With the advent of new materials and technologies, theaim is to study the modern construction techni!ues andmethods that have been locally developed for bamboo
