South Pars Gas Field Development

South Pars gas field is the largest independent gas reservoir in the world, situated in the Persian Gulf next to Qatar’s North Dome. These fields together cover an area of 9,700 square kilometers, of which 3,700 square kilometers belong to Iran. The Iranian portion is estimated to contain more than 14 trillion cubic meters of gas, as well as some 18 billion barrels of gas condensates. South Pars gas field could satisfy global gas demand for more than 10 years by itself. It accounts for roughly 9% of the worlds and half of Iran’s gas reserves.

We are proud of our st r ik ing role in the development of such giant project, where we are involved in developing 6 phases: the EPC projects of phases 9 , 10 onshore (completed) and the development of phases 17 , 18 , 20 and 21 (ongoing).

Development of South Pars phases 20 and 21 was awarded to OIEC both in onshore and offshore to produce 2 bscfd reservoir fluids by drilling 24 wells, installing 2 unmanned wellhead platforms and transferring the fluids to onshore refinery by two 32” subsea pipelines. The onshore facilities were developed on the basis of supplying treated lean gas to domestic network and ethane gas to nearby petrochemical complexes, LPG (propane and butane) for export and condensate for both export and domestic use.

South Pars phases 20 & 21 is a significant mega gas project and OIEC is achieving unparalleled experience and capabilities through designing, constructing and managing such project in onshore and offshore, upstream and downstream.

Azar Oil FieldDevelopment (Ongoing)

Azar structure is an asymmetric anticline located in the Anaran exploration block in the foreland basin of the Zagros fold and thrust belt along the Iran-Iraq border. Total length of the field (on top of Ilam Fm.) is more than 36.5 km including the extension in Iraq, approximately 13.5 km on the Iranian side. The development plan is designed to produce 65,000 BOPD of which 30,000 BOPD will be reached in the first stage (early production). The development plan totally consists of drilling 19 wells during 55 months as well as designing and constructing required surface facilities, separation units and transferring pipelines.

A wholly owned subsidiary, Sarvak Azar Engineering and Development Company (SAED) was established to execute this project. Moreover, due to the buy-back nature of the contract, developing Azar oil field could undoubtedly be considered as a turning point in our professional evolution, because OIEC is experiencing a role beyond just being an EPC contractor.

OIEC was the first private Iranian oil & gas company to part ic ipate in an overseas consortium. As a %10 stakeholder in Shah Deniz Gas F ie ld Development, OIEC signed a PSA with the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic (Socar) along with its six partners from six different continents. Later after the start of production phase, OIEC transferred its shares to Naft i ran In ternat ional Company (NICO). As the project progressed there were other changes to the makeup of stakeholders as well.

OIEC has successfully completed NGL 1200, 1300, 1500, and Sirri plants and now is working on NGL 3100 Project

Downstream - NGL Plants

As another significant project in NGL industry, NGL-3100 plant is being designed and constructed by OIEC near the oil production unit of Cheshmeh khosh, a town in Ilam Province. The project is defined to reach the optimal recovery of C2+ product from the associated gases of North Dezful oil fields that at present are being burnt causing both pollution and noticeable losses of gas revenues. This project includes a high pressure electrical power grid consisting of transmission lines and stations. It also includes feed and product pipelines.

Bandar Abbas Refinery, one of the largest in the Middle East with a refining capacity of more than 300,000 bpd, was constructed in an area of 7 square kilometers near the city of Bandar Abbas in southern Iran. The feed for the refinery is the heavy crude plus some condensate which is transferred from Sarkhoon gas treating plant. A part of production is exported, while the remaining is supplied to local markets in order to meet the demand of the southern parts of Iran, and moreover, the central regions, for which, the 450 km long 26” pipeline of Bandar Abbas-Rafsanjan is used.

The construction, erection and pre-commissioning of Isfahan Lube Oil Complex in vicinity of Isfahan Refinery was the first construction project undertaken by OIEC at its infancy. The project is also considered as a striking milestone in Iranian oil industry, because the successful completion of the project was a proof of capabilities of local contractors and OIEC at the top.

The project consisted of construction of Furfural and MEK Dewaxing Units producing 184,000 tons of base oil per year. Other units such as Blending Unit, Can Manufacturing, Filling Unit, Tank Farm, Loading-Unloading Unit and a new Cooling Tower were also constructed as part of the complex. Meanwhile, to complete the project, it was necessary to make numerous Tie Ins to existing process and utility units of Isfahan Refinery which was executed during refinery operation.

The construction of Khorasan Petrochemical Plant for KHPC under the license and supervision of Kellogg of UK was unique in terms of pouring a single monolithic concrete foundation for one of the Ammonia tanks just 7 weeks after the contract was awarded. Highly complicated piping in a 100 meter tall steel structure in a multi-contractor site with patented piping material from Stamicarbon was another challenge which was met by OIEC in this project. Adding to these challenges was the transportation and erection of the heavy 350 ton reactor.

Finishing the project on time and within initial budget was the reward of precise planning and execution that was accomplished by OIEC’s professional construction and project management team.
