National Structural Code of the Philippines 2010

Chapter 1, Section 105

105.2 Earthquake-Recording and Instrumentation

105.2.1 General

Unless waived by the Building Official, every building in Seismic Zone 4 over 50 m in

height shall be provided with not less than three approved recording accelerographs.

The accelerographs shall be interconnected for common start and common timing.

Benefits of Installing Accelerographs BETTER SEISMIC DESIGN

1. Prove the dynamic model used in the building design process

2. Validate or improve seismic design codes

RAPID ASSESSMENT AND DAMAGE MITIGATION

3. Monitor structural response during an earthquake

4. Provide information used in post-earthquake actions

5. Interact with automatic shutdown controls to minimize damage

6. Provide data useful to the retrofit process

BUSINESS CONTINUITY

7. Reduce the monitored structure’s post-earthquake non-operational downtime
