2008 2013 2020

1. Product innovation and improved technology have developed faster than we initially thought. Through equipment efficiency and infrastructure improvements, in most cases we can achieve 30/20 by 20.

2. Many of the large capital expenditures (e.g., chillers, boilers, renewable energy) do not have an Owner “acceptable” ROI payback period of less than 3.5 years.

3. Innovative financing and other creative ways to help owners justify or transfer the capital expense has became critical.

Sustainable Food & Beverage: Spotlight on Seafood

GLOBAL CITIZENSHIP

Why Sustainable Seafood? » 1 billion people rely on fish as their primary source of

protein » By 2050, there will only be enough wild seafood to feed half

the world’s population

What is Starwood doing? » Following the 2012 launch of our Sustainable Food &

Beverage Policy, we announced a ban of shark fin at all properties by 2015

» We published our Sustainable Seafood Position Statement in early 2015

» We are currently partnered with sustainable seafood NGO’s to: –Develop education and training for our associates

–Support local communities by focusing on sustainable sourcing

– Improve local economies by participating in fishery improvement projects

‒ Make a Green Choice (MAGC): Originally launched in 2009 and globalized in 2013/14. Guests forego full housekeeping which saves water, energy & chemicals and receives a $5/5 Euros F&B voucher or 500 SPG Points (250 in SSB).

‒ Sustainable Meeting Practices (SMP): This program addresses the growing interest from our customers for sustainable meetings and differentiates Starwood. All meetings at Starwood are sustainable by default.

‒ Clean the World (CTW): Hotels donate all of their partially used soaps and amenities which get cleaned, remilled/refilled and then sent to shelters and/or developing areas to help reduce disease in children and adults.

‒ Experiential Environmental Excursions: The Andaman, a Luxury Collection

Resort, Langkawi has a full staff of nature experts and the property has extensive activities in the rainforest and along the coast, including rainforest “awaking” and “after dark” nature walks, mangrove swimming, UNESCO Geopark cruises, jungle trekking and whale shark excursions. In addition, the resort conducts monthly Coral Clearing activities and takes guests on educational Coral Walks to learn about this fragile ecosystem.
