AcousticsAsh & Lacy have independentlytested several of their constructions toincorporate sound reduction (SRI),Internal sound absorption withperforated decks & liners and Rainnoise testing to comply with BB93.The main issue is to gain the correctunderstanding of, and being able tointerpret BB93. Ash & Lacy are able tooffer assistance with this and providesystems developed to include rainnoise reduction membranes.

Environmental issuesThere are several benefits to choosing an Ashzip Insulated roof. With Ashzip's onsite rolling, we can dramatically reduce thenumber of deliveries, to help to improve the carbon footprint ofthe build programme. In conjunction with site production, deepthermally efficient constructions, that can provide ‘U’ values aslow as 0.10 W/m2K are available, which will not only reduce thecarbon foot print of the build, but also the performance of thebuilding resulting in reduced fuel and energy bills.

Care of the environment is the biggest challenge that faces theworld, and we must ensure that we develop buildings andsystems that have the lowest impact. We have to give futuregenerations a world fit to live in.

Aesthetics & standardisationA number of standard perimeter details are available along withbespoke design assistance. More than ever designers requirethe option to provide slim line perimeter details and avoid theindustrial look associated with metal roofs. Ash & Lacy havecompleted numerous projects where light gauge cantilevermembers have been incorporated into the roof void to providea support mechanism without the need for deep hot rolled stubsections. Details and design assistance are available from Ash& Lacy’s technical department.

Fire performanceThe external sheets can be taken to have a notional AAdesignation as defined by BS476-3:2004 and is there fore notsubject to the limitation of a minimum distance from any pointor boundary. Standard insulants specified are classed as non-combustible and will not assist with the spread of flame. Thedesigner must compartmentalise insulation zones whererequired by building control.

Ash & Lacy provide a Pathway to Success and Achievement

The design of Education Sector Buildings provide totally different challenges to the designer than otherbuildings. Firstly, the Design Team have to consider the total ‘Learning Experience’, and what gives thestudent the best environment for development. Once that has been established, the other factors have tobe assembled around the core use of the building – Heating, Lighting, Solar Gain, Shading, Whole LifeCosting as well as Structural and Aesthetic considerations.

Ash & Lacy offer a complete design service, and working as part of the Design Team, can help to ensurethat the specification is achieved, whilst exceeding the client's expectations time and time again.

With the benefit of Independent Auditing, the Client has total confidence in the system and the constructionprocess.

The care of our environment is the biggest challenge facing all of us, and ensuring that there is minimalimpact when developing a project, is a major concern for Ash & Lacy. Attention to detailing, providingadequate ventilation and natural light impact not only on the cost of a project, but also on it's environmentalimpact. Developments such as Green and Bio Diverse Roofs not only encourage wildlife, but also absorbCO2, returning Oxygen back into the atmosphere.

Whole life costingWhen deciding on a building specification, whether it is for a new build or for arefurbishment, it is important to consider theWhole Life Costing. The chart shows acomparison of the whole life costing for an actualrefurbishment project, with a replacement flatroof, compared to a 'flat-to-pitch' conversion, which allow additional insulation to beincorporated.

Energy cost savingsAir leakage and solar gain have an impact on the heating or cooling requirements for a building. Attention to these factors will provide savings in energy costs, and provide less of an impact on the environment.

Ash & Lacy's technical department can advise on detailing, particularly for junctions and changes of level, to create high levels of air-tightness.
