flexROOM® Flexible Room Solution

WAGO‘s flexROOM® solution is based on room axes. The basic idea: An axis is the smallest common denominator and the part of a room to which a window is allocated. Using this principle, WAGO‘s flexROOM® solution can be readily and flexibly applied to any office or administration building. Each room axis is provided with functions for sun protection, lighting and single-room control.

Energy Efficiency

EN 15232:2012 Standard (Energy Perfor-mance of Buildings – Impact of Building Auto-mation, Controls and Building Management) involves extensive calculations and simulations for assessing potential savings resulting from automation functions. In offices, this standard allows up to 25% heating-energy savings to be achieved through building and room automation, without changing the building envelope.

Cost-Reducing, Non-Residential Building Automation In halls and stairwells, lighting control is performed via motion and presence detectors depending on daylight and user requirements. In offices, artificial light control depends on light intensity. Lights are switched on or off depending on the presence of people in the room. Usage-dependent lighting control yields potential energy savings between 40 and 50%. In offices, single-room control provides the following settings: heating reduction, stand- by and operating times (acc. to usage and presence profiles), as well as automatic heating/cooling output shutdown when opening a window.

Efficient and Cost-Effective Building Automation Investing in building and room automation pays off. Depending on the investment made, a payback period of just a few years is quite realistic. From a life cycle cost perspective, cost ana- lysis should also consider operating costs (energy, maintenance and service costs), which by far exceed pure investment costs. Therefore, apart from pure investment costs, running costs should also be strongly consid-ered when opting for a system.

Info Potential Energy Savings:

Up to 50% for usage-dependent lighting control •Up to 25% for single-room control •Up to 32% for sun protection •

Experience shows that user behavior has a major impact on energy consumption in buildings. At the University of Applied Sciences in Biberach, Germany, measurements were collected in three classrooms over two heating seasons, using different automation classes (based on EN 15232**). Within two years, 29% energy could be saved at average automation class and even 41% at high automation class.*** Energy savings also means cost saving and investing for the future. As recent years have shown, energy prices will only continue to rise! Gas prices have doubled over the past ten years, while electricity prices have increased by 250%.*

Energy Savings

ef|fi|ci|ent <lat.> (effective; cost-effective). Energy efficiency is becoming increasingly important for building technology as energy costs keep rising: Buildings account for around 40% of total energy consumption worldwide. In order to reduce these energy costs sustainably, energy-efficient auto- mation for new and existing buildings has come to the forefront: WAGO flexROOM® provides a modern and user-friendly room automation solution, integrating energy-saving functions for lighting, sun-protection and single-room control. Therefore, WAGO‘s flexROOM® provides key requirements for complying with class A building performance according to DIN EN 15232.

Constructing or retrofitting buildings is an operational challenge in terms of energy savings. High-energy efficiency is becoming increasingly important for both investors and tenants. Energy class A buildings have a greater marketability, while providing cost savings via streamlined energy consumption. For example, rating and certification of energy-efficient buildings is provided by the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB). The sooner the evaluation criteria are incorporated in the plan- ning, the more clearly both building planning and construction can be defined. Buildings are awarded gold, silver or bronze ratings depending on the scores achieved and the degree to which requirements are met. International certification organizations include Minergie (CH), BREEAM (UK), LEED (USA) HQE (FR), GREEN STAR (AUS) and Green Mark (Singapore).

Lighting Artificial lighting requirements depend on room utilization. In the office, constant light control provides optimal workplace illumina-tion. Different lighting scenes are required depending on whether meeting rooms are used for a presentation or for a conference. Once saved, lighting scenes can be simply recalled when needed.

Example of Efficient Lighting Control: Presence detection significantly reduces the percentage of artificial light. Potential for further savings results from combining occupancy control with constant light control.

Sun Protection Sun protection control reduces excessively high daylight incidence, providing glare-free working conditions. Manual override of the automatic control is possible at any time to meet individual preferences. Furthermore, automatic dimmer and sun protection, as well as slat adjustment for anti-glare protection are available throughout the year. Combining single blinds into a facade is also supported by the application function. Moving interior sunblinds down can be locked via window contacts when windows are open. Weather protection function stows exterior sunblinds (e.g., on a wind alarm) in a safety position.

flexROOM® efficient. individual. easy.

For Glare-Free Work Spaces: Automatic sun protection control provides optimum light incidence. Room lighting condi-tions are adjusted via shading and slats tracking the sun position.

For a Pleasant Atmosphere: Whether office, reception or conference room — the right lighting is necessary to ensure a pleasant atmosphere. Daylight-dependent regulation mini-mizes the proportion of artificial light used for room illumination, while a high proportion of natural light promotes people‘s sense of well-being in their work-ing environment. Furthermore, dimming the lighting or using lighting scenes is essential for meetings and conferences.

For Comfort and Warmth: Highly precise single-room control provides ideal room temperatures. Temperature ad- justments can be made at any time providing personal well-being, while being optimally regulated and maintained by the controller.

Applications

Energy Efficiency

Proven Solution

Implementation of Plans

The fundamental idea behind this new solution is both simple and effective: Standardized hardware and software radically simplify processes at all levels — from planning through commissioning and on up to daily administrative tasks. And this, despite all project-specific differences.

Once the decision has been taken for WAGO flexROOM®, its many advantages can be used within the individual phases of a project.

Planning

Individual floor plans are the basis for planning a building. Room axes are de- fined according to each plan and their number is determined. Components for lighting, sun protection and single-room control are selected and quantities identi- fied. This procedure allows planning to be traced back at any time.

Then, room axis functionality is defined and the appropriate WAGO flexROOM® distri- bution box is selected according to the num-ber of room axes.

WAGO flexROOM® provides a large range of functions, allowing applications to be selected, configured and activated for a specific project. The high number of functions provides a solution geared pre- cisely to individual requirements.

Despite the variety of possibilities, planning remains clear and manageable. Further- more, planning aids provide implementation support. By selecting the distribution box, initial costs can be estimated for the entire project during these early phases. Full functionality is available for comprehensive tests, even in the sampling phase. Functions can be matched with the requirements and be directly traced back. Installation

WAGO‘s flexROOM® standard products have predictable delivery times, streamlining building site coordination. WINSTA® connection technology helps reduce installation efforts compared to conventional installations. Commissioning Configuring instead of programming simpli-fies commissioning time estimation. Operating Phase Flexibility in partitioning the space is main- tained across all phases by using walls with- in the application. Costs for building auto-mation reconfiguration are lower, which also reduces life-cycle management costs.
