Analysis (Breakdown each campaign)…
• Understand donor information (who, how many and how much)
• Determine volunteer manpower needs (quantity and quality)
• Where do opportunities for new growth exist (individual gifts and geographic)

Critique (Staff and volunteers)
• Remember…it’s process…not personal
• Conduct SWOT exercise (Strength/Weakness/Opportunity/Threat)
• “If you do what you’ve always done…you get what you’ve always got”

Build a Plan (Each campaign)
• Campaign timeline…by dates for each key step
• Manpower needs…how many are needed to get the job done
• Campaign Controls…how are we doing

Recruit Manpower (Council and district level)
• Start early…it always takes longer than you plan
• Engage volunteers in the process (board, steering committees etc…)
• Identify and recruit the best people

• Prospect and Evaluate Donors
• Use knowledgeable volunteers
• Identify the right people to ask for gift(s)
• Strive to move donors forward…not be happy with renewal

Execute Plan (You built it…use it)
• Make sure everyone is on the same page
• Stay on track
• Make review of the plan a constant

Report Progress (Frequently)
• Communicate progress from beginning to end of each campaign
• Send to volunteers…keep in front of staff
• Hold everyone accountable

Evaluate and Make Corrections (Regular basis)
• Be prepared to identify weakness in the campaign as it happens
• Develop strategies to address issues
• Assign key volunteers to assist in managing course corrections

• Get to know the people who are helping you
• Stay positive and make things fun
• Remember to praise and say thank you

• Remember, all donors have more choices than ever before
• Develop a plan to communicate with donors regularly (7 times each year is recommended)
• Meet personally with your top donors

• Make the event fun
• Find creative ways to recognize volunteers
