Rice could be commended for his hon-

    esty, at least.

In federal court on Thursday to answer to

charges that he guarded an Oakland Park

brothel, he gave this response when thejudge asked about his line of work: Crimi-

    nal.

Aer an awkward pause, Rice, 45, ex-

plained hes never had legimate employment. He was one of three

people arrested in May during a raid on the Boom Boom Room, a bor-

    dello with underage girls.

U.S. District Judge William Dimitrouleas said in the 22 years hes been

on the bench and asked about employment, its the rst me Ive

    heard that answer.

Rice, a New Jersey nave who lived in Hollywood, pleaded guilty to

possessing a rearm by a convicted felon, punishable by up to 10 years

    in prison.

LOS ANGELES - In the world of animated TV, its no stretch to say that

good-natured Gumby is far down the list of characters that would

    commit armed robbery.

But a man clad in a full-gured Gumby costume has made a botched

aempt to rob a 7-Eleven store in California, and authories are look-

ing for the suspect, police said on Wednesday.

It happened early on Monday when the man came into the San Di-

ego store dressed as the green claymaon gure, accompanied by an

ordinarily dressed accomplice, San Diego Police spokesman Detecve

    Gary Hassen said.

The costumed man announced he was robbing the store, but the clerk

thought it was a joke, police said.

parking enforcement in his town that he parked his car illegally in a

handicapped space and called police over a dozen mes. When they

showed up, they subdued him with a stun gun and arrested him.

Shelton police say they had to use the stun gun on Michael Andes

Thursday morning aer he became combave and screamed at of-

cers that they werent doing their job. He was charged with breach

of peace, interfering with an ocer and was given a parking cket.

Authories say Andes rst called police at 2 a.m. and yelled at adispatcher.

Andes posted $1,000 bail and is due in court Sept. 6. Theres no

Instead of a gun, the costumed suspect pulled out 26 cents in change

Two employees of an English security rm havebeen red aer being tricked into aaching an

electronic monitoring bracelet to a prisoners pros-thec leg.

Christopher Lowcock, 29, disguised his false leg bywrapping it in bandages which was enough to fooltwo workers from G4S who visited his home in Ro-chdale to t the tag and monitoring equipment.

The workers would have noced Mr Lowcocks ar-cial limb had they conducted the proper testswhich they ignored.

The oversight allowed Mr Lowcock to simply re-move his leg and leave it at home whenever hewanted to breach the condions of his house ar-rest for driving and drug oences, and possessionof an oensive weapon.

Another ocer from G4S whose job was to checkmonitoring equipment was correctly installed alsofailed to conduct the proper tests.

The security rm became suspicious last monthand when they visited Mr Lowcocks home theydiscovered he had been returned to custody for adriving oence.

G4S is a private security company that tags around70,000 oenders each year on behalf of the UKsministry of jusce, a spokeswoman told the Roch-dale Observer.

In this individuals case two employees failed to adhere to the correct procedures when installing the tag. Had theydone so, they would have idened his prosthec leg.

Failure to follow procedure is a serious disciplinary oence, and the two employees responsible for the installaonof the tag have now been dismissed.

    De HooiHi Guys,

Funny story: Not too long ago, oh maybe less than a year, I bought

a Logitech Bluetooth keyboard/mouse set. Theyre prey cool.

The keyboard beeps when I get new email and has an LCD dis-

play on it, tells me the temperature and the me and does lotsof other stu and the mouse has so many buons on it and the

wheel does the side scrolling thing and has its own charging base.

Another cool feature with the mouse is the wheel will go line at

a me with the slight clicks but if you spin it fast enough it free

wheels for scrolling through long documents. I thought that was

really smart. The set wasnt cheap, over a million rupiah but well

worth it as my computer is hooked directly into my TV and that

means I never even have to leave bed to get things done.

Well the funny thing is about a week ago when I put the mouse

in the cradle it would act like it was going to start to recharge, thelile green lights climbing, and then it would stop and the baery

light would ash red twice over and over again. Oh crap! What

can you do right? I guess I could try and take it back to the place

I bought it but who knows if I sll have the box and the receipt.

Was at the mall where I bought it and couldnt even nd the place.

Who knows if theyre even sll open. I tried cleaning the contacts

but that didnt work and true enough it has fallen o the side of

my bed a few mes but I gured they drop tested this kinda stu.

So anyway my soware said I sll had 20% baery life le or 2

days me and I gured maybe if I kept pung it in its cradle it

might get that one minute of charging me and keep on working

but that red light was really bugging me. My rst step was to nd

the troubleshoot on the Logitech website and I think it said I had

a defecve baery or something but wasnt very helpful. And then I think a few clicks later I was lucky enough to

nd a forum or a blog (whats the dierence: never mind I just googled that and it turned into a can of worms) and

anyway a guy had purchased the same model as mine on eBay and for that reason it wouldnt be under warranty ac-

cording to Logitech. Plus even if it was, youd have to send it in and then months later maybe youd get a funconing

mouse so he picked it up and slammed it on his desk! . . . You guessed it, he put it in the cradle and up it charged to

100% with all the prey green lights and not a red light in sight. He didnt recommend doing it yourself as the lile

bastard aint cheap but it worked for him.

Comment aer comment of skepcal people reluctant to try it but with no other choice started picking up their

mouses, pardon me, mice and slamming them on their desks and then singing the praises of the man who did it

rst and le his post. I thought this must be a bunch of shit, some ding dong somewhere wants me to pick up my

mouse and slam it down on the desk and hes secretly having a laugh somewhere as the world ruins their (mice?).

BUT. . . I did it anyway and now it works perfectly. Huh.

Thanks for making De Hooi Southern Jakartas favorite beer joint.

    Cheers,

    Harry

Three Australians and three Maori are travelling by train to Brisbane for the decider for the Tri Naons

Cup. At the staon, the three Maori each buy a cket and watch as the three Aussies buy just one cketbetween them.

How are the three of you going to travel on only one cket? asks one of the Maori.

Watch and learn, mate, answers one of the Aussies.

They all board the train. The Maori take their respecve seats but all three Aussies cram into a toilet andclose the door behind them. Shortly aer the train has departed, the conductor comes around collecngckets. He knocks on the toilet door and says, Ticket please.

The door opens just a crack and a single arm emerges with a cket in hand. The conductor takes the cketand moves on. The Maori see this and agree it was quite a clever idea. So aer the game, they decide togo one beer on the return trip and save some money.

When they get to the staon for the return trip, the Aussies, once again, buy a single cket for the returntrip. To their astonishment, the Maoris dont buy a cket at all!!

How are you going to travel without a cket? says one perplexed Aussies.

Watch and learn, bro, answers a Maori.

When they board the train the three Maori cram into a toilet and soon aer the three Aussies cram into

another nearby. The train departs. Shortly aerwards, one of the Maori leaves the toilet and walks over tothe toilet where the Aussies are hiding. He knocks on the door and says, Ticket please.

The new season is upon us and in keeping with tradion the new strip is some way behind. As with last season, part of the problemis what to do with the sponsors logos. Last season we eschewed* the opon of the cheap strip for fear that it may not take the

iron-on logos. We neednt have worried no-one watching us will have recognised the logos anyway aer the rst wash. This

season the problem is how to t all the logos on the shirts. As menoned in a previous match report, this season were blessed

with an abundance of sponsors and in danger of resembling Formula1 drivers or Tour cyclists when the kit nally arrives. Thanks to Derrick

and Nick for sponsoring again this season (Tesla and BH nancial respecvely). Derrick would like to point out that his company has noth-

ing to do with electric cars, or indeed with saving the planet in any way, and Nick would like to point out that it is wrong to pronounce his

company the Indonesian way and suggest it has anything to do with lingerie. Underwring, maybe, under-wiring, denitely not. Thanks

also go to King for convincing his friend CVO to become one of the two main sponsors. As soon as we nd out what CVO does well let you

know but its denitely not denstry and probably not slimming aids. It was good of King to take me o from praccing new goalkeeping

techniques and acng as a form of demi-god to Sjoerds kids one of them (a four year old) turned up at a pre-season friendly wearing

goalkeeping gloves and sporng a shaved head. You can almost imagine them stung pillows into their pyjamas and diving about the

bedroom shoung I am Boris. Oops.

Jasper possibly arranged the rest of the sponsors, including BuGils Group (very nice bars) who want no publicity at all for their extremely

generous sponsorship. Other main sponsors Santa Fe were moved (ahem) to contribute a sizeable sum amazing that Jasper managed

to me his request to coincide with the ve minutes Mr W spends in Jakarta each month (this is an esmate based on facebook posngs

from exoc locaons). Moving swily on (ahem again), you may have noced EPL players sipping on drinks before games? Well, thanks to

Coca Cola BuGils players can emulate all their heroes, although Im not sure Rooney et al are downing cans of Sprite during matches. Our

appreciaon for post match drinks goes to Heineken, Guinness and the extremely generous, and publicity shy, BuGils Group (great bars).

Much to the annoyance of Marcelele, Dos Hermanos donated cash rather than product but Marcelele can perhaps talk to other treasur -

ers in Indonesia to see if theres some way of turning this to his advantage. If, in reading our shirts in the future you noce Ive missed any

sponsors, please let me know what they do and Ill do the needful.

Anyway, this is a match report so how about some talk of football? First game of the season against DoIt United. Those boys have been

around so long theyre named aer a nightspot that no longer exists imagine that eh? Theyre renowned (rightly or wrongly) for being a

bunch of moaning ****s during games. They also drink Anker post match even if they win! They beat us 2-1. We shoulda got a point at

least, even though according to DoIt we cant play football.

I dont want to bore you with further details of the above rst league match nor of the two pre-season friendlies not yet reported (we

lost....badly). Last word goes to Willie blister boy, erstwhile top striker. While watching from the subs bench in a pre season friendly as

Alex2 came on and sloed home against German Plus (who incidentally were back to their full strength - where Plus refers to Profession-

als) striker Willie remarked its good to have someone who can score.

    * there always has to be a footnote...except when the editor misses it the last report told of BuGils rst silverware of the season; the miss-

ing footnote on the word rst was supposed to clarify that this meant ever. Another constant in these reports is a word that encourages

our mulnaonal players to consult their diconaries at two words a month were hoping English will be a rst language for the team of

    season 2111/2112.
