BUFORD CITY BOARD OF EDUCATION
To the Buford Community and Our Guests:
On behalf of the Buford Board of Education and the Buford City School System, it is with great pleasure that I welcome you to Tom Riden Stadium at Buford High School.! The Buford City School System has a strong tradition of football and a program that has been a source of pride for many years.! The Buford football team has the distinct honor of being the 1978 and 2001 “A” Football State Champions and the 2002, 2003, 2007, 2008, 2009, and 2010 “AA” Football State Champions.! Among other accomplishments are an amazing 153 wins and only 8 losses in the past 11 seasons, a record for football programs in the state of Georgia. With each year, the program is growing and making strides to build upon its many successes.!Coach Jess Simpson and his assistants have provided strong leadership and dedication to the BHS football program.! However, our program is a combined effort of many talented groups, including the Marching Band of Wolves, directed by Wallace Conrath and assistants, and the Wolves cheerleading squad, coached by Lisa Cole and assistants.! The faculty and staff are also included in this group because of their high academic expectations.! As a result of these high expectations, many BHS student athletes and musicians have gone on to participate and find much success at the college level.!Buford High School continues to be recognized as a leader for its commitment to academic quality and an overall standard of excellence in the total school program.! The community and fan support of the BHS extracurricular programs makes a difference in the lives of young people.! Together, let us continue to make BHS proud of the Wolves!!

DR. BANKS BITTERMAN, PRINCIPAL
DEXTER WOOD, ATHLETIC DIRECTOR
On behalf of the faculty and sta" of Buford High School, I would like to welcome you to our campus. At BHS, we are committed to Triple “A” Excellence: Excellence in Academics, Excellence in Athletics, and Excellence in Arts. Our faculty and sta" work tirelessly to ensure that student learning is taking place. Each member of our faculty is focused on empowering students to reach their full potential as lifelong learners and e"ective members of society by inspiring them to think, to achieve, and to care!
I am so excited about the upcoming year especially after the incredible successes we had in the previous year! We were named to Newsweek’s America’s Best High Schools list AGAIN! Our Georgia High School Graduation Test (GHSGT) scores were the highest they have ever been (ESPECIALLY IN THE EXCEEDS category!). We were in the top 3% in the state (all schools) in ALL GHSGT content areas. We were the #1 system in the state of Georgia in GHSGT scores!
We had a phenomenal year in our athletic/arts program. We won #ve di"erent state championships! Our teams won the AA Softball State Championship, the AA Football State Championship, the AA Girls Basketball State Championship, AA Literary State Championship, and the AA Baseball State Championship. We were also AA Boys’ Basketball State Championship Runner-Ups. We also had several other sports place very high in region and state competitions.
I would like to congratulate Coach Jess Simpson and our coaching sta" and players on the awesome accomplishment of winning FOUR AA Football State Championships in a row. This is an incredible feat and a state record! I am looking forward to the “drive for #ve” this year! I would also like to acknowledge the hard work of the Wolves Marching Band led by Mr. Wally Conrath and his assistants, and the Wolves Cheerleading Squad led by Ms. Lisa Cole and her assistants. Their e"orts, along with those of the BHS football program, combine to make Buford High School a very special place to be.
Thank you for your dedication and support of Buford High School. I look forward to seeing you at all of our football games and other athletic and extracurricular events this year. It is going to be an outstanding year. Please work with me and let’s continue achieving AAA Excellence at Buford High School! Have a great evening!
Go Wolves! Dr. Banks Bitterman Principal Buford High School

One can’t help but be aware of the rich tradition that is associated with this team and this school. There are people, now too old to go to the games, who still remember wearing a green jersey, men for whom “The Buford Wolves” still has great meaning. There are also young men, too young to be left alone in the stadium, who would one day like to wear a green jersey and be a part of the Wolves’ legacy. Tradition is a burden in many ways. A tradition like ours means you can’t quit, you can’t lose your cool, and you always have to show class, even when you aren’t up to it. You have to do some things you don’t want to do and do some things, you think you can’t do, simply because the tradition demands it of you. On the other hand, tradition is the thing that sustains us. It is that which allows us to prevail in ways we could not otherwise. We’re convinced that greatness in any field has to come from some kind of tradition. Our job is to make certain that the tradition that is the Buford High School Wolves means as much and stands for as much to those
who are yet to come, as it has for us and those who have gone before us.

The 2011 Marching Band ShowThe Buford High School Marching Band of Wolves is proud to present its 2011 halftime show, THE MUSIC OF AEROSMITH. The show is a montage of tunes by Steven Tyler and his popular band, including entertaining arrangements of “Dude Looks Like A Lady”, “Walk This Way”, and “Dream On”. You also hear musical quotes from other popular Aerosmith tunes, including “Cryin’”, “Rag Doll”, and “Love On An Elevator”.
Show music was arranged by Brett Bawcum and Todd Mueller, and the drill designwas created by Ryan Bybee. Special thanks go to additional sta" members from band camp: Jeanne Skelton, Brian Ulrich, Seth Kuehn, Chris Probst, and Fritz Siler. As always, we could not make all of this happen without the gracious support from the Buford Band Booster Association and all of our parents.

Mike Kelley 1948-2011
These are the green and gold shoes worn by Mike to Buford athletic events during the last few years of his life. They are an ever present reminder and an inspiration of what it truly means to love Buford, the town, its people, its sports teams, players and coaches. Mike was a great athlete himself at Buford and then became a life-long fan and supporter. We will miss him, but his green and gold shoes should always challenge us to consider the questions of “Who do you love? What do you love?” For Mike Kelley, the answer was always:
“THE BUFORD WOLVES!”
