Welcome to the Buffalo Public Schools Parent Centers!

Parents are the most critical assets in their child’s education. Children listen to and are influenced most by

what their parents say to them and how they say it – by what their parents do with them and how they do it.

In the Buffalo Public Schools, we believe that an equal and high-quality education is every child’s civil right;

and, as educators we must deliver on this essential democratic principle.

Meanwhile, it is the parent’s responsibility to:

1) Place a high premium on education

2) Make sure your child goes to school and to all classes every day

3) Make sure your child does his or her in-school work to the best of his or her ability and puts in additional

study time (up to two hours each day) outside of school hours

4) Make sure you and your child show respect for teachers and for school staff.

Please make use of the Parent Centers we have created for you as part of the New Education Bargain with

Students and Parents (NEB). Through the NEB, the District guarantees pathways to opportunity that will lead

to achievement and success in exchange for hard work, commitment, and collaboration of our students and

parents.

Together, let’s make 2017-18 a year of extraordinary academic growth and extraordinary parental

engagement for the benefit of all children!

Buffalo Public Schools PARENT CENTERS

Parent Center Mission: The mission of the Buffalo Public Schools’ (BPS) Parent Centers is to provide parents and families with education, resources, and support as we collaborate to ensure children achieve success in school and beyond. Parent Center Services: Since launching in October 2016, the BPS Parent Centers have provided ongoing services to thousands of parents

and the community. At each Center, parents arrive to a warm atmosphere and are greeted and assisted by a

Parent Center Engagement Liaison. The Liaison is eager to assist with a variety of services including: Parent Center

Academy learning session registration, academic curricular and parent resources, legal advice provided through Say

Yes Buffalo legal clinics, health insurance provider enrollment, desktop and touch-screen laptop computer access,

printing services, job search information, clothing, food, toy giveaways, and so much more. The best news is that

ALL of these services are FREE to participants!

Parents are also invited to the Centers as a means of self-care by simply relaxing on comfortable furniture, enjoying

a cup of coffee, and browsing books and other literature available through the Parent Center lending libraries. Each

Center also has a fun children’s play area. The BPS Parent Centers are here for you. Please visit and take advantage

of these wonderful resources!

What is the Parent Center Academy? The Parent Center Academy promotes parental involvement and enhances student achievement. Free Parent

Center Academy courses are offered to build parents’ knowledge, skills, and networks for supporting and

partnering in their child’s education. To achieve this goal, a variety of high-quality services, activities, and learning

sessions, sponsored by BPS departments, community-based organizations, local businesses, and BPS parent

leaders, are offered at the Parent Center sites as well as other convenient locations throughout the City of Buffalo

during the day, evening, and Community Schools’ Saturday Academies.

The Parent Center Academy sessions are organized into seven strands. Each strand provides a general topic for

organizing learning sessions and activities. Regularly visit the Parent Center link at: Buffaloschools.org to view the

most current online listing of learning sessions, activities, dates, times, and locations. New sessions and activities
