A Message from our Principal July, 2007 Dear Parents and Guardians,
We say good-bye to the 2006-2007 school year and welcome the
relaxing and restorative days of summer. Families look forward to much deserved vacations or simply the opportunity to enjoy a break from normally hectic schedules. Despite the fact that summer has been traditionally a time of kick-ing back and sleeping late, Mount Mercy students know that learning is a year-round activity. Summer Reading Lists and Assignments can be downloaded by going to www.mtmercy.org and clicking on “Summer Reading Projects” under the QuickLinks. Please take a look at the sum-mer reading list and the assignments and encourage your daughter to be-gin working on her reading assignments now. Waiting until the last few days of summer to complete this work only adds stress to the beginning of the school year. The summer reading assignments are due on the first day of school.
Summer may be here but the activity at Mount Mercy never ends. GAL Camp and Summer Magic Leadership Academy will be taking place. If you have daughters in grades 5-8, they are welcome to sign up for these activities. See our website for more information. Mount Mercy will be running a number of programs this summer and the building will be open if you need to come in or contact us. The Main Office will be open from 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM beginning July 9. Please keep in mind that fac-ulty and some staff do not work through the summer so if you need to speak to a teacher the best way to get in touch is to call extension 201 and leave a message with the Main Office personnel. Regular Office hours will resume on August 20.
We also will run a five day review class and administer Regents exams for those who need to retake exams. Review classes run from Au-gust 9 to 15 and the exams are administered on August 16 and 17. Regis-tration forms can be obtained from the Main Office or downloaded from our website.
We will keep all of you in our prayers this summer and we hope you keep us in yours. May God grant all of our families and students a safe, peaceful and productive summer. Sincerely, Paulette C. Gaske Principal

Mount Mercy Academy held its fourth quarter Honors Assembly in the Mercy Center Auditorium on June 8, 2007. The program included the distribution of Varsity letters to MMA Magic athletes and recognition of outstanding achieve-ment for many students during the last quarter of the school year. This year, as always, MMA school counselors were given the opportunity to nominate members of the Junior Class for awards from specific colleges. Nominated students will be awarded a scholarship to that college if they so chose to attend. These nominations are based on academic achievements, leadership qualities, community involvement, SAT scores, and a particular interest in a certain field. The following Mount Mercy Academy students will have the opportunity to consider these schools for there college choice:
The University of Rochester’s Bausch & Lomb Honorary Science Award: Melissa Hayes
The University of Rochester’s Frederick Douglas & Susan B. Anthony Award in Humanities and Social Sciences Award: Mary Fatima Santiano
The University of Rochester’s Kodak Young Leaders Award: Olivia Schlager The Clarkson University Leadership Award: Tara Bodziak

Pictured are MMA Students wearing the school uniform as it is intended to be worn. Uniform options include the gray skort or gray uniform slacks, with a long or short sleeved white or navy polo bearing the MMA emblem. Knee socks—solid navy, black, gray or white— are mandatory with the skort. Shoes are black or brown– having a full front, full back, sides and low heel with non-skid soles. Students may wear the navy cardigan or navy pullover sweater bearing the MMA em-blem, also. Only seniors have a sweatshirt option. Uniform slacks and sweaters provide comfort and warmth in the winter months for those students traveling by bus or walking to school, and in the early morning before the school building heats up. The complete uniform policy appears in the Stu-dent Handbook in your daughter’s school agenda. Uniform components purchased through Flynn and O’Hara are of good quality and the company provides a money back guarantee on the products they sell. Order online at www.flynnohara.com.
