Monday, May 15th – Arrive Buenos Aires

Bienvenidos a Buenos Aires!

The “Paris of South America” as it is called, Buenos Aires boasts a European face and an intensely Latin

soul. It is “the city that never sleeps,” where locals pack café terraces until the small hours of the morning

to discuss tango, soccer and politics, and where family and friendship still come before everything else.

Upon arriving in Buenos Aires you will be met by your driver and transferred to your hotel.

Your rooms will be available upon arriving to the hotel with some time to rest and refresh this morning

at the hotel.

We would be happy to suggest a restaurant for dinner out. Overnight at your accommodation

Your hotel for the next 2 nights

Casa Sur Recoleta Hotel – Executive Rooms

An intimate bolthole with a sophisticated and stylish edge, CasaSur Recoleta Hotel Buenos Aires is

conveniently placed in the smart Recoleta region east of the city centre. With a stress relieving spa, a

restaurant and bar serving tapas and light meals, this is a peaceful enclave in a cosmopolitan part of

town.

The atmosphere is one of low-key city chic with a bold, masculine look throughout, softened by vases

of colourful flowers and strategically placed candles on gleaming polished tables.

Tuesday, May 16th – Visit of Buenos Aires

This morning you will be met by your guide for a custom private visit of Buenos Aires.

Buenos Aires is undoubtedly the Latin American city that most closely resembles the cosmopolitan and

aristocratic atmosphere of the big European capitals. Buenos Aires is also much more than that,

combining the multi colored tin houses of La Boca with the popular tango ambience that thrives on the

streets of San Telmo. This is the blend that makes Buenos Aires a unique and irresistible metropolis.

This tour highlights these aspects of the city, through its history and culture: the historic development,

the immigration process, specific cultural topics (soccer, tango music), its architectural heritage,

Peronism and other interesting features of Argentine society.

Your tour will begin at Palermo Soho district where we will uncover boundless café and restaurants,

bars, parks, museums and galleries, shops as well as artisanal markets. Your guide will suggest some

tantalizing options for lunch.

We then head for San Telmo, one of the oldest neighborhoods in Buenos Aires. It was the residential

district of the Buenos Aires “aristocracy” until the late 19th century, when a yellow fever epidemic caused

the wealthier families to move northwards. The area was marginalized until the 1970s, when many artists

and artisans came to San Telmo to install their workshops. Nowadays, thanks to its amazing architecture

and convenient location, this classic neighborhood has undergone a process of gentrification and is

blooming.

We will walk its cobbled streets, where the city’s colonial past seems to come back to life, and we make

a stop at Plaza Dorrego. Leaving San Telmo behind, we continue southwards to La Boca, one of the

city’s most authentic and charming neighborhoods. It is a working class district, heavily shaped by Italian

immigrants who came to our country in large numbers during the last quarter of the 19th century. The

neighborhood’s colorful buildings and its characteristic tenement houses reflect the cheerful spirit of

the Italian community. As in San Telmo in the 1970s, nowadays La Boca is being renovated, and more

and more artists and TV producers are choosing this neighborhood to set up their workshops and

studios. Here, we make a special visit to the mythical Caminito Street, which embodies everything that

gives La Boca its distinctive spirit: the strong passion for soccer, the heavy presence of art and color,

and the tango atmosphere since it is here on these cobbles that the dock workers invented the famous

dance.

From La Boca we continue to Plaza de Mayo, the city’s foundational site and an important witness to

the country’s political history.

We can visit the Casa Rosada, the Presidential Palace, the Cabildo, the colonial town hall, and the

neoclassical style Metropolitan Cathedral, final resting place of Argentina’s founding father, General

José de San Martín.

Following the trail of the upper classes in their retreat to the north, we visit La Recoleta, where

we discover a sharp contrast with the neighborhoods in the south of Buenos Aires. Here we will learn

about the dream of our local aristocrats in the late 19th century and early 20th, when they sought to

build a small scale Paris in the heart of Buenos Aires.

Finally, we explore the celebrated Recoleta Cemetery, resting place of the most important characters of

Argentina’s history and political and cultural life.

You will be taken back to your hotel after the tour to get changed before dinner.

Around 8PM you will be taken to your special dinner and Tango Show.

In the newly re structured international district of Puerto Madero lies the Faena + Universe Hotel,

created by Philippe Starck. Here you will enjoy an intimate dinner followed by Rojo Tango, a

sophisticated and Avant-garde tango performance, truly different to any other tango show in Greater

Buenos Aires.

You will be taken back to your accommodation after the show.

Overnight in your hotel.

Friday, May 19th – Mendoza

Today enjoy the day at leisure. Relax by the hotel pool with regional snacks and the Finca’s own wines,

you can also explore the nearby town or take a short taxi ride into Mendoza center for shopping and

sites.

Be sure to be back in time since this evening we have arranged for dinner time a traditional

Argentinian asado dinner, at your hotel.

There’s nothing like an argentinian barbecue, or asado, as we call it. A barbecue is not only a meal, it’s

a ritual, it’s part of the culture.

“When we were kids our fathers used to make the barbecue on a Sunday afternoon. He would get

up early, have a few sips of mate tea and with a lot of patience he would make a fire. During the

morning hours he would wait for the wood to burn down, while he listened to the radio or read

the newspaper. Around midday the coal would be red and orange, just the way he wanted it to

be. That was the moment when he put the meat on the barbecue.”

This beef is cut differently than in Europe or the US. The cuts that are put on a parilla are called: Tira de

Asado, Vacío, Cuadril. You will try them, they’re very tasty. But let’s not forget the Chorizos (sausages)

and the Morzilla (black pudding). There is no need to rush. A barbecue is a ritual. That’s why we start

making the fire already in the afternoon, in order to get a nice coal set. After that, we put the meat on

the grill. In order to make a good barbecue there are two things which are necessary: pacience and

experience. For argentinians it’s not a meal. It’s a passion

*Optional additional: we can arrange an Argentinian cooking class before the asado.

Luján de Cuyo, the premier wine growing region in Argentina and where the most famous wineries are

located. It’s the first choice when choosing a wine area to visit in Argentina. It is situated 30 minutes

south of Mendoza City, amidst the country’s finest vineyards with the snow-capped Andes in the

distance.

The vineyards are nestled into the foothills of the Andes Mountains to the south of Mendoza city. On

the road, we enjoy the spectacular scenery of the snowcapped peaks, more than 20 thousand feet high.

First we take you to Matervini, Santiago Achaval’s new project which explores the diverse geologies of

the Pre –cordillera obtaining a variety of wines with unique personality.

Next we have a visit and tasting at Terrazas, an old style winery completely renovated and refurbished

by Chandon Here the focus is very much on making big, concentrated single vineyard Malbecs and we

try the top label Cheval de los Andes.

At midday we have lunch at Casarena, a winery that is a mix of old and new and produces an excellent

Mallbec called Rama Negra Here we sit down in the winery’s modernist all glass restaurant enjoying a

multi-course gourmet lunch with wine pairings whilst enjoying beautiful views of the vineyards and

mountains.

This afternoon before dinner time we can arrange for you an outdoor cooking class highlighting 3

important traditional dishes and methods of cooking. We will set up a nice private table where you can

learn about cooking “empanadas” a traditional norther Argentinian typically meat stuffed pastry Also a

rare sight for tourists but common in Argentine households for a Sunday lunch alternative to the

traditional asado cooking with the “disco” a thick steel disk used to plow fields converted into a cooking

surface placed over hot embers, there are a number of recipes where this is employed in Argentine

households as an alternative to the traditional Sunday Asado. Of course all the while participating as

much as you desire in the experience or standing to the side with the experts at their craft as you enjoy

your glass of wine. Finally for the barbecue, you will assist in the preparation of a goat or lamb asado

again done in the traditional way “al asador” and you will witness preparation and learn about the

history process and current day usage of this ancient cooking style.
