orally, however in third century B.C.E it was written down

• The Mahayana Sutra reveres the Tripitaka– Many of the Sutras were written between
200B.C.E. and 200 C.E– Lotus Sutra– Heart Sutra– Land of Bliss Sutra
Major Texts: Tibetan Book of the Dead
• This Book was written by a Tibetan monk describing the different stages of death – The book was originally named Bardo Todrol Chenmo – Bardo means gap, referring to the gap between life
and death– Lama recites book at funeral– Was recorded in eighth century C.E. by
Padmasambhava, then was concealed, later to be found in the fourteenth century by Karma Lingpa
