Ski Lodge ProceduresRevised Feb 4, 2017 by Jeremy Miles, Jeff Sanders, Dan Scott

GuidelinesFacilities are operated for use of members and guests, Maintenance of the facilities is shared by all who use them. Use of courtesy and consideration for others govern conduct. The following standards have been adopted:

● Each family must clean up after themselves including washing and putting away dishes and leaving the facility clean.

● Guests must sign a release and put lodge fee in the can.● Each family to separate burnable and unburnable trash and place in proper receptacles.● Belongings should be kept in cubbyholes or on hooks.● Upstairs is for sleeping. There should be no eating upstairs.● Clothing, shoes, sleeping bags, etc. must be stowed so as to provide a clear hallway. ● Children may play in the main room but should stay out of the kitchen unless under adult

supervision.● Children to refrain from running around and being too noisy. ● No smoking inside the lodge.● Generator should be turned off no later than 11 pm. ● Lodge must be left clean with most tables and benches stored away.● Floors should be swept, and in winter, mopped.● Kitchen and dressing rooms must be left clean.● After opening any padlock, it should be locked back on hasp to prevent loss. Including the

gate lock)● Lock and check all doors with the key.

Lighting● There are LED lights powered by the battery next to the balcony door. They are turned on

with the small orange switch next to the door. ● There are battery powered puck LED lights on the stairs and upstairs. There is a pull switch

for the stairs at the bottom (to the left of the opening).● The lights must all be turned off before leaving.● There are also rechargeable lanterns, battery powered lanterns, and propane lanterns for

lighting as necessary. ● The standard 120V lighting and outlets require use of the generator.

Generator ● We are in process of replacing the generator. Details to come.

Propane ● Unlock the cover panel on the propane tank and open the cover. ● Unlock the shut off valve and turn the valve 90 degrees using the wrench under the cover. ● Unscrew the propane shut off valve under the cover. ● Turn the valve back 1/8 turn so it doesn't stick.● Check the meter dials. If they are moving, then propane is leaking and valve should be shut

off.

Room Heater ● Turn on the gas shut off valve on floor next to the heater. Open the lower heater panel and

turn the control valve to Pilot. ● The red pilot valve will now push in. ● Push and hold for about 20 seconds to let the propane vent through the line. Push in the

pilot button and light the pilot with a match. ● Hold the button in for about 1 minute until the thermocouple heats up and the pilot stays on

when the button is released. ● Turn the control valve to the on position and check that the pilot stays on. Set the

temperature control on the wall to 60 degrees and check that the heater goes on.● Do not set the heater above 65 degrees. ● To turn off, just turn off the gas shut off valve.

Stoves● Only the left hand stove is working.● Turn on the shut off valve on the wall between the stoves for either stove being used. ● Bleed air from the line by turning on a burner and holding a match to it until it lights.● The stove has 4 pilots that must be lit if that stove is turned on. There is one pilot under

each burner top plate (center under right 2 burners and center under left 2 burners) and one under the oven/broiler.

● After all pilots have been lit for about 5 minutes, there are two safety buttons that must be pressed to allow the ovens to work. There is one red button under each side top plate at the back corner. They are marked with red tape (as they are hard to see). Note that the right hand oven does not get very hot - it’s useful as a plate warmer. See photos below.

● To turn off, turn off the gas shut off valve.● Propane is one of our major expenses. Please don’t roast turkeys in the oven.

Water heater● The water heater is instant. The heater turns on when you turn on the hot water (if the

propane is on). ● There is a valve for propane (red; see picture).

● There is a valve for water (blue; see picture). This should be left open (but if water doesn’t

run, check it.)

Log lighter● For starting logs in fireplace only. Light paper in fire place. Turn on log lighter, using the

valve on the left of the fireplace. When wood starts to flame, turn off log lighter. It must be left off.

Locks● Close padlocks after opening so they can’t be lost.● In winter, bring locks into the lodge so they don’t freeze.

Water System● On any freezing night, at least one faucet must be left dripping constantly to avoid freeze up.

● Close the TWO drain valve under the lodge. They are labelled large arrows.● Turn on the shut off at the box, 26 yards up hill from the main rope motor shack, 15 yards to

the right of rope. It completes a triangle with the 2 large cedar trees. Open the lid and turn the handle 90 degrees to the left. DON’T lIft the extension handle comes off the valve, you will need a flashlight to get it back on.

● Close all the faucets as soon as water begins to flow. ● Remove the brick from the toilet flush handle.● To shut off and drain, turn off the water at the redwood box. Open the two drains under the

lodge.● In summer, the water does not need to be drained, but the water should still be shut off at

the box.

Lock Up● Follow and complete the Close-Up Checklist.● All windows latches and doors should be checked by person completing the checklist. Sign

and date the checklistProper locking and proper water draining is the most important Winter activity!!
