Brinjal Fruit and Shoot Borer (BFSB)Leucinodes orbonalis Management
The brinjal fruit and shoot borer (BSFB), Leucinodes orbonalis is one of the most serious pests
of Brinjal causing losses up to 65%. Russell IPM Manufacture and supplies natural products
and insect pheromone based solutions to combat this devastating pest Leucinodes orbonalis.

The brinjal fruit and shoot borer (BSFB), Leucinodes orbonalis poses a serious threat to Brinjal
production across the South East Asia. Young larvae bore into tender shoots immediately
after hatching and later move into flowers and fruits. The brinjal fruit and shoot borer control
is undergoing major challenges due to its nature of damage as well as its rapid capability of
developing resistance towards conventional insecticides.
Biorational solutions have been developed to combat brinjal fruit and shoot borer,
Leucinodes orbonalis. Russell IPM has developed a range of innovative biological products
Biotine-M, Antario-32K, Qlure-LEO and Fytoshine. These products are safe, effective
and environmentally friendly and ensures a poison free Brinjal production.
Biotine- M is a natural plant extract based biorational solution to combat brinjal fruit and
shoot borer, Leucinodes orbonalis. It is a systemic biological insecticide with a wide range
of efficacy against BSFB, other lepidopterous insects, whitefly, Aphids, Thrips and Mites.
Biotine-M is a sprayable concentrate. Once sprayed onto the surface of the plant it is absorbed
and protects from attack from the BFSB. Biotine-M has been tested against brinjal shoot and
fruit borer in Bangladesh and showed an 80-95% reduction of damage caused by BSFB
when compared with candidate biological and conventional synthetic insecticides. Biotine-M
is fully biodegradable and environmentally friendly and can be applied right up to the harvest.
Biotine-M does not leave toxic residue on leaf and fruit surfaces.
Antario -32K is a biological insecticide based on Bacillus thuringiensis, an insecticide with a
track record of over 40 years of safety and efficacy. Antrio-32K tested against brinjal shoot
and fruit borer in Bangladesh and showed a 70-80 % reduction of damage caused by BSFB
when compared with conventional insecticides. Antario-32K is supplied as a wettable powder
that can be sprayed to counter pest crops or prevent damage to crops in green house or open
field situations. It leaves no toxic residues on the plant or in the field and is extremely specific
in its action, only targeting lepidopterous, some Coleopteran and Orthopteran insect species.
Antario-32K is a safe, effective and environmentally friendly product.
Qlure-LEO is the pheromone lure for Brinjal shoot and fruit borer (BSFB), Leucinodes orbonalis.
In field application Qlure-LEO is an improved formulation pheromone lure, which delivers
additional benefits of constant release over longer periods in hotter climates, with a higher
trap catch than the standard lure available in the market. Qlure-LEO removes the male insect
reducing breeding, it provides early warning of infestation and alerts the user to low level
populations before it becomes serious. It is recommended to apply 40-45 Qlure-LEO baited
traps in the field treated with Biotine-M, Antario- 32 K to achieve substantial control of BSFB
biologically. It comes free as a biological package together with Biotine-M and Antraio-32 K.
Fytoshine is an improved formulation of water soluble Neem oil. It can be easily mixed and
sprayed onto crops as a potent antifeedant, insect repellent and ovipositor deterrent. It repels
the BSFB from the plants, stops BSFB from feeding and deters egg laying on the plants in the
first place. Fytoshine is effective against Brinjal Shoot and fruit borer eggs and recommended to
be used during the BSFB egg laying period. It is a safe, biodegradable and eco-friendly product.
