BSc TRANSPORT OPERATIONS & TECHNOLOGY This is a four year full time level 8 honours degree programme which prepares students for a career in the transport industry (freight, logistics or passenger transport). What is Transport Operations and Technology? Due to the growth in the transport sector both in Ireland and abroad, there are now major opportunities for those wishing to make their careers in the transport industry. The Degree in Transport Operations & Technology will give graduates the opportunity to gain employment in a technical/managerial capacity in one or other of the transport sectors road, rail, sea and air. This programme covers road, rail, air and marine transport (freight and passenger) from both operational and technological perspectives. The skills and knowledge acquired will be applicable at senior management levels in many transport-related businesses. What will I study? Students will undertake modules covering road, rail, aviation and marine transport from the technological and operational aspects. There is a work placement in year 3 (semester 2) where students will have an opportunity to spend at least three months in the transport industry in a role relating to either road, rail, aviation or marine transport. TU814 Entry requirements Irish Leaving Certificate in six subjects at least two of which must be grade H5 or higher on higher level papers Mathematics must be at a minimum of grade H5 at ordinary level. Irish or English must also be included or an equivalent qualification. Applicants who are at least 23 years of age on 1st January of the year of entry may apply to join the degree programme. Each applicant will be considered on an individual basis. Academic qualifications, work experience, motivation, and overall potential for the programme of study will be evaluated by means of an interview. Applicants who wish to be considered for entry to the second year of the programme should have at least a merit in a cognate TU Dublin or HETAC/NCEA certificate. Applicants who wish to be considered for entry to the third year of the programme should have at least a merit in a TU Dublin or HETAC/NCEA Diploma or equivalent. Students who have reached the appropriate honours standard have access to a range of Level 9 programmes in TU Dublin and elsewhere in Higher Education at Universities in Ireland, Europe and further afield. What are my career opportunities?Career prospects are excellent in both the private and public sectors. The transport sector is one of the most important in the country and is the backbone of the economy.

Career prospects include: Transport Fleet Planner; Transport Manager; Fleet Maintenance Coordinator; Transport Planner; Flight Operations Coordinator/Manager; Freight Forwarder; Operations Controller.

68% of graduates gained employment within the first three months of completing the course. A further 20% of graduates progressed on to level 9 programmes.

Are there study abroad options?During the programme there are opportunities to study abroad through the work placement module in year 3. It is possible to spend one semesters abroad in either the third year of the programme.
