Investment & Valuation Surveying or Property Asset Management & Valuation option Introduction This primary aim of the Property Economics course is to educate students for professional careers in commercial property i.e. retail (shopping), office and industrial. Graduates can work in valuation surveying, real estate, property investment and management, auctioneering and estate agency in Ireland and abroad. It is also suitable for those interested in property development, town planning and the general investment market. Do you want a degree which focuses on developing your skills in: logical thinking problem-solving; teamwork, presentation & communication project management; numeracy and computing; managing tight deadlines; determination and self motivation. Studying abroad Students have the opportunity to study abroad for a semester on Erasmus Exchange in Hanze University in Grongingen, Holland and also to participate in the European Challenge Competition in Berlin. The programme seeks to foster graduates who are both literate and numerate, have good analytical, inter- personal and communicative skills, and are adaptable, critical, responsive and environmentally sensitive. The skills you will obtain on the course are not just valued in the property and construction industries, but can be used to establish careers in business, accountancy, banking, law, marketing, investments etc. as well as their target industries. Students can avail of our work placement component in the second semester of year 3. In addition you have the opportunity to add value to your degree and increase your options for a professional future in the international arena by choosing additional modules in German, either as a complete beginner or by brushing up on Leaving Cert level German. You would then have the chance to undertake the Year 3 work placement in a German-speaking country. What do Valuations Surveyors do? Chartered Valuation Surveyors work in occupations such as Property Valuation, Investment and Management and also Auctioneering and Estate Agency. They are also involved in the broader areas of land and property development, valuation surveying, property management and town planning. They are principally employed by property consultancy firms, such as Lisney, Savills, Jones Lang Lasalle, DTZ Sherry Fitzgerald and CBRE. They also find work with auctioneers & estate agencies, property development companies, local authorities and major property owning companies, both public and private such as the ESB, the Bank of Ireland, HSE and Irish Life in the area of property and asset management. Entry Requirements Minimum number of 6 subjects, with 2 H5 Honours. Minimum grade in Maths and either English or Irish of O6 or H7.
