BSc HONOURS IN BIODIVERSITY AND CONSERVATION BIOLOGY (BCB)
AT THE UNIVERSITY OF THE WESTERN CAPECURRICULUM
The BSc Hons in BCB requires you to do
3 core modules and 2 electives.
Core modules:

ABOUT US
BCB was formed in 2002 from the former Botany
and Zoology Departments. Although we are a
small department, the nine staff are from diverse
backgrounds and institutions, and have wide-
ranging interests – we are passionate about
training biologists for the future. As a department
BCB is research active, harmonious and a perfect
working environment where you can pursue
scientific excellence.
PREREQUISITES TO ENTER INTO THE
BCB HONOURS PROGRAMME
A student must have a first degree in whole
organism biology AND have attained at least 60%
in EITHER zoological or botanical subjects in the
final year.
BURSARY OPPORTUNITIES
Students are encouraged to apply for NRF and
other related bursaries. Some research projects
may have bursaries associated with them.

HONOURS FIELDTRIPS
During the course of your honours year you will experience
several fieldtrips, where sampling methods and theory taught in
class are put into practice. These are associated either with
your projects or the modules that you have selected.
