Hi Fellow Painters!!

With all the cold weather we’ve had I have taken the opportunity to finish those pesky “UFO’s” that we all have sitting around but also learned a lot about myself as well and thought I would share.A friend wanted a “realistic moose” and as a Thank You I wanted to paint her a “realistic owl” as well and kept putting it off for months because of my fear that I could not do it as I have never painted “realistic” before. I have not taken

classes nor studied animals. I not only tackled both subjects but they came out so nice and I can say I’m PROUD of myself.I learned that we have more talent

and knowledge of painting any subject than we realize. We just need to step out of our comfort zone and change the “I

can’ts” into “I Can”!! Maybe there is something that you have wanted to try but were intimated by it – JUST GO FOR IT!!! You can do it. Your

might just learn a thing or two about yourself along the way. With that being said I hope to see you all at our next meeting as well as at our Paint-Ins we have sched-uled this year. Without our volun-teers and board members putting all these great projects together we would not be Penns Woods Paint-ers!!

Have a great Painting Day!!

Last month we high-lighted in this space that a raffle would be held at the May 2014 meeting. Given the fact that there is a limit to the number of people who could fit in the Caromal Colours’ facility for the May program and meeting,

the board decided that it was best to wait with the raffle until a later meet-ing. Just to remind you what we are

talking about: Members who at-tend the future PWP meeting will be able

to participate in a Silent Auc-tion for a chair painted by Judy Diephouse and also a Raffle for “Roses” by Trudy Beard (Lazore) and for “Flowers” painted by Maureen McNaugh-ton (which needs just a little finish-ing.)

It is with great excitement that I share that Jane Allen has stepped up to help me with seminars for 2015. Jane will be contacting artists to travel to our chapter in 2015 and beyond. If you have any suggestions, please email Jane and myself. I have shared the recent names that were emailed to me recently for Jane to follow up. We look forward to sharing more in-formation in the months to come. In the meantime, is anyone interested in traveling to another chapter to support their seminars? It is a lot of fun traveling with other PWP members for the day of painting!! I am also wondering what interest we have for World of Color Expo in November? Are members interested in a bus trip for one day or more? Will we have different groups of painters attend-ing at different times that we can arrange car pooling? Please drop me a quick email indicating your intent for the expo, that way I can prepare if necessary.

Remember the simpler days of a lovely tea, beautiful art and won-derful company with those who are like you, passionate about painting.Linda Kapp and Wendy Beckmann have met and plans are being made to plan such an afternoon. Put it on your calendar now for 2 pm, Sunday, October 26th. And if you are so inclined to help, we will be

happy to have your assistance with setting up, food, or with the art show judging.

help us invite them back to

PWP!

PWP is set up to instruct a make-it/take-it project for Wed., May 7th. The faux salt glaze pottery was suggested to be a good beginner project. So, mark you calendars if you can lend a hand. Program will start at 6:00 p.m.. PWP will be represented by a few members, so far, who would teach and assist in doing the project. If you would be able to help with this, contact Barb Lehman.

We, the PWP members, were asked to display our personal artwork in the hall at Messiah Vil-lage for the month of April. Five members participated with 49 pieces, either hanging on the wall or displayed in the curio cabinet. The staff, residents and guest enjoy looking at our beautiful pieces; with some of them purchasing a piece or two. Thank you to Barb Lehman, Fran Huffman, Carol Henry and Melissa Crowther plus myself for sharing. If you missed

this month, watch your newsletter for our next opportunity, probably in the fall. Linda Kapp

Since we are having our May meet-ing at Caromal Colours, we will not be raffling any items. We will also not have a silent auction. In other words, we will not be doing any fundraising activities at our May meeting, since we will be at Caro-mal Colours. As things stand right now (April 24th), this change in plans may also mean that we may have more than one item for the Silent Auction,

and maybe more than two items for a Raffle, at our September meeting! So, look ahead and do your best to be able to join us in September, too! Keep your eyes on the newsletter and web page to see what we will have for both the Silent Auction and the Raffle as we move past the May meeting! (Besides what you see on that front page.)Hope to see you there!

oooooRemember how it works...for

the Silent Auction, you each will need to write in the amount you are bidding on the chair. For the raffle pieces, when you purchase

your raffle tickets, you will put one ticket of the pair in the ‘bucket’

next to your selection. ooooo

Our 2014 Memory Box Paint In is scheduled for May 3. As I write this for our newsletter, we have approximately 13 people, besides Dottie Shultz and myself, who will be joining us. I thank you for your dedication to our Memory Box program.Look for pictures from the Paint-In on both our Facebook page and our website!Since our May meeting is being held at Caromal Colours in Me-chanicsburg, please do not bring any Memory Boxes in to the shop. If you must bring your Memory Boxes with you on May 17, I ask that you let me know beforehand. That helps me figure out where to park, etc. to help make it relatively easy to transfer the boxes from you

to me. Let Hilary know via email ([email protected]) or phone (leave a voicemail) (717 730 9220).We have delivered another 31 Memory Boxes to our local hospitals in the past 6 weeks or so. Hopefully, our hospi-tals have enough ‘stock’ of our Memory Boxes that will last them a few months. But, we never know, so it is important that you return boxes that you are working on, so we keep our inventory ‘at the ready’!Unfortunately, we may never know how many folks find themselves receiving one of our boxes. I will tell you that I wish that I had

known about this program 23 years ago when the tragedy of a stillborn affected my family. I do have the honor of knowing that a friend of

mine, unfortunately, received one of our boxes, a

few years ago – in fact she

received one that I had painted. As

sad as this situa-tion is for everyone

affected, I am glad that we continue to

provide these boxes as a symbol of our caring.

Thank you.

Hilary Felinski

We just love to see a happy presenter. Melissa Crowther showed us her Silk Painting and it is way harder than it looks.

Treasurer BoxesThis week, Barb is delivering 12 beautifully painted boxes to the Catlin Smiles Foundation.Thank you all for the fantastic job well done. Due to the fact that our next meeting(looks like a fun project) will be in a retail shop; please hold any boxes that are painted until our next meeting in July.

From the teacher’s perspective . . . we’re not a bad looking group. : )
