Bruce Carlson, 80, of Lumberton, died Wednesday, May 3, 2017. He was born on October 25, 1936, in Nederland, to Cora Chapman Carlson and William Carlson. Bruce proudly served his country in the United States Army and later retired as an electrician and was a member of Local 479.

Bruce was a loving and devoted husband and father. He loved and adored his eight grandchildren. Bruce served his Lord by serving others, always

putting others before himself. He loved to make others smile and could always tell the best jokes, especially ones about “Boudreaux and Fontenot”, invoking his Cajun accent. Bruce was a Master Mason for over forty years and a member of Lumberton Masonic Lodge #1430 Ancient Free and Accepted Masons.

Survivors include his children, Carol Mitchell and her husband, Charlie; Becky Soileau and her husband, Curtis; and Bruce Carlson and his wife, Kimberly, all of Lumberton; and Mary Ann Johnson and her husband, Wes, of Cypress; grandchildren, Curtis Soileau, Jr. and his wife, Bre, of Lumberton; Justin Soileau of Austin; and Emily Goines and her husband, Garrett; Lauren Sheffield and her husband, Eric; Trey Mitchell; Colbey Carlson; and Kelsey Carlson, all of Lumberton; and Maley Johnson and Macey Johnson, both of Cypress; great-grandchildren, Lanna Sheffield, Joey Sheffield, Kellen Szallai, Cameron Soileau, and Mitchell Goines; and siblings, Conrad Carlson and Arlene Davis, all of Nederland. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife of fifty-six years, Patricia Ruth Carlson; and sister, Mona Wallace.
