Brown School Enrollment ChecklistCourse registration is a multi-step and time-sensitive process. Follow the steps outlined below to ensure a timely and accurate enrollment process:
PHASE 1: CREATING CREDENTIALS FOR UNIVERSITY SYSTEMS
STATUS: REQUIRED
TIMEFRAME: For students who completed their intent to enroll prior to June 1, this process begins on June 5. For students who completed their intent to enroll after June 1, this process begins within 5-7 days after confirming the intent to enroll.
STEP 1: Receive email from University Registrar (username: Washington University Registrar WUSTL Key) sent to your personal email, subject line: Activate Your WashU WUSTL Key & Email.
STEP 2: Follow the email’s instructions to create your university credentials: WashU Email Address (@wustl.edu) and WUSTL Key.
PHASE 2: UPDATING PERSONAL INFORMATION
STATUS: REQUIRED
TIMEFRAME: 48-72 hours after completing Phase 1
STEP 1: Using your WUSTL Key, log into the university’s student system, called WebSTAC: acadinfo.wustl.edu. We suggest bookmarking this site so it is easily accessible. Click the Student Information dropdown and update Contact Information and User Profile sections as necessary. Post your Emergency Contact information.
Unable to access the video on YouTube through the link above? Click here.
STEP 2: Log into Inside Brown at insidebrown.wustl.edu. We suggest bookmarking this site so it is easily accessible. Read the Brown School Student Handbook. Then, sign the Student Handbook Agreement. These links are available on the homepage. If Phase 2 remains incomplete, a hold will be placed on your account. Unresolved holds may prevent you from registering for coursework in future semesters.
Once you have completed these steps, proceed to Phase 2: Updating Personal Information.
Please allow a 48-72 hour time period to gain access to all university systems.
Once you have completed these steps, proceed to Phase 3: Preparing for Course Enrollment.

PHASE 3: PREPARING FOR COURSE ENROLLMENT
STATUS: REQUIRED
TIMEFRAME: For students who completed their intent to enroll prior to June 1, this process begins on June 12. For students who completed their intent to enroll after June 1, this process begins within 5-7 days after completing Phase 2.
STEP 1: Review the course sequencing guidelines for your program. These guidelines outline the courses for which you must register in your first semester:
MSW: Page 10 MSW, Advanced Standing: Page 11 MPH: Page 12 MSW/MPH Dual: Page 13 MSW/MPH Dual Degree, Advanced Standing: Page 14
STEP 2: Visit courses.wustl.edu and search for courses that fulfill your sequencing guidelines. Define your search with this criteria: Term: FL2018 Schools: Social Work & Public Health Departments: All Departments The course listing site is best viewed on a desktop; we advise against looking on mobile or tablet device.
Unable to access the video on YouTube through the link above? Click here.
STEP 3: Create a first draft of your first semester schedule, called a Registration Worksheet (RW). To create your RW, log into WebSTAC, select the Courses & Registration dropdown, and select Registration Worksheet.
Unable to access the video on YouTube through the link above? Click here.
STEP 4: Email your Academic Advisor and ask them to review your RW. Given the high-volume of requests advisors receive during this time, please allow two full weekdays for your advisor to review and respond. If you receive feedback, make any necessary changes and request a follow-up review. Your Academic Advisor must approve your RW before you can register for coursework. The week of June 11, your Academic Advisor will introduce themselves by emailing your @wustl.edu account. If you have not received an introduction email or if you need to access their info, log into WebSTAC, select the Academics dropdown, and select Advisors.
Once your Academic Advisor has approved your RW, proceed to Phase 4: Registering for First Semester Courses.

PHASE 4: REGISTERING FOR FIRST SEMESTER COURSES
STATUS: REQUIRED
TIMEFRAME: Course registration opens on June 19 at 9:00 am CT. Phases 1-3 must be complete before you are able to register for courses.
ONCE REGISTRATION OPENS:
• Log into WebSTAC using your WUSTL Key.
• Select the Courses & Registration dropdown, then select Registration and the FL2018 term.
• Courses from your Registration Worksheet will pre-populate
• Select one course at a time. Click “Add” to enroll in the course.
Unable to access the video on YouTube through the link above? Click here.
WAITLISTED FOR A COURSE? No need to panic! If you are waitlisted for a course, please do not email the professor or your advisor asking to bypass the waitlist.
Waitlists fluctuate at the start of the semester. Some students test out of classes via proficiency exams. Others “shop” for courses during the Add/Drop period and ultimately do not enroll.
After inevitable course shifting occurs, waitlists are evaluated by School administrators and actions are taken to ensure that all students are enrolled in required foundation-level coursework: additional courses may be offered; course capacity may be exapnded; or, in limited circumstances, you may be required to switch into a different section of the same course that has not reached capacity.
Regularly check your waitlist status in WebSTAC, as you will be enrolled automatically when positions become available, and will not receive email notification.

Additional WebSTAC Features: WebSTAC (Web STudent ACcess) is an online platform where students register for courses, check grades, access tuition bills, and much more. Students regularly access WebSTAC, and it is very important that incoming students take time to become familiar with this fundamental tool. In addition to the “How To” videos referenced throughout this document, here are a handful of other commonly used features in WebSTAC:
PREFERRED NAMES
The Preferred Name policy allows Danforth Campus students to change their first name in many university information systems without pursuing a legal name change. Your preferred name will be used on many university documents, systems and communications.
Reasons for using preferred names may include students known by names different from their legal names, transgender or gender nonconforming students, or international students or other students who wish to adopt an English language name.
At any time, you may add, edit or delete a preferred name in your academic record in WebSTAC by going to the Student Information tab and then selecting User Profile.
STUDENT DIRECTORY LISTING
At any time, you may review or update the information shared on your directory listing by going to the Student Information tab and then selecting FERPA Rights and Record Privacy. Here, you can update your listings for the WashU homepage directory, Office 365 Address Book, and the internal student directory called Faces.
BEAR BUCKSBear Bucks is an optional, cashless system for making purchases at select on-campus and off-campus locations. Bear Bucks can be used at over 50 off-campus locations, at select vending machines, for various printing services and at all campus dining locations. To add funds into your Bear Bucks account, select the Billing & Bear Bucks tab and then select Bear Bucks. Funds remain available on your card until you leave the university.
VOTER REGISTRATION
If you plan to register to vote in St. Louis, registering at the start of the semster can position you to participate in the mid-term elections. Access voter registration info by going to the Student Information tab and then selecting Voter Registration.
Preferred Named PolicyRead the full preferred name policy by visiting: registrar.wustl.edu/student-records/ssn-name-changes/preferred-name-policy/.
Student PrivacyThe privacy of your student records is protected by law under the federal Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). Certain pieces of “directory information” on your record may be made publicly available, such as your email address, unless you have placed an information restriction on your record.

BOOKSTORES & BANKS:BANKING ON CAMPUS
While some students choose to maintain a relationship with their home bank, many find it’s easier to have an account at a bank with a local branch. Some students create accounts with community banks and credit unions. For those who wish to bank on campus, Washington University’s campus offers a full-service Bank of America branch, and Bank of America ATMs are located across campus.
CAMPUS BOOKSTORELocated in Mallinckrodt Center, the Washington University Campus Bookstore provides academic resources and services, including:
