BIOGRAPHICAL/HISTORICAL NOTE

Harry Bates Brown, Sr., was Research Professor Emeritus of Agronomy and agronomist of the

Agricultural Experimental Station, at Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge.

SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE

Professional papers relate primarily to Brown's membership in professional organizations,

agricultural experimentation, plant breeding, and soil conservation. Papers contain

correspondence, research notes, teaching materials, published articles, conference papers,

bulletins, and literary manuscripts. Also included are research notes, maps, and photographs

pertaining to the Battle of Port Hudson and the surrounding area and published material and

correspondence relative to race relations and segregation. Personal papers include family

correspondence (1908-1970); legal and business records; and memorabilia.
