QRHS Core Subject Requirements for Graduation Students must take and pass the following subjects
English20 credits of English, with a minimum of 5 credits each year of high school
Math20 credits of Math, with a minimum of 5 credits each year of high school
Science15 credits of Lab Science -Biology and either Chemistry or Physics
Social Studies
15 credits of Social Studies -World History (or equivalent), US History I & II
World Language
10 credits of the same World Language
Arts 2 courses or 5 total credits in the Arts or Music
Wellness
10 credits of Wellness -ALL students must pass Health I–Students can fulfil some Wellness by participating in Quabbin Athletics
Capstone
All students must successfully complete one of the following in senior year: the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme, NJROTC Honors, Theory of Knowledge A/B, Capstone Seminar, or Senior Internship.

Planning Ahead• You do not want to get hung up on ‘prerequisites’
• For Example: Students must take Algebra I before Algebra II
• Students must take Digital Imaging I before Intro to Graphic Design
• Include post-graduate career and college goals
• Having many choices can be overwhelming
• Having a four year plan helps make those small choices add up to great opportunity
• Balancing your schedule
• Planning out advanced level courses to ensure your student doesn’t get in ‘over their head’ while making sure they are challenging themselves

What Are Prerequisites?
• The course you have to take BEFORE you are able to take a certain course.
• Ensures students are prepared.
For Example:
• Web Design I before Web Design II
• Algebra II must be taken Before Chemistry Honors
• Algebra II must be taken Before or in the same year as Chemistry CP
• PreCalculus and Trig Before AP Calculus or Calculus I Honors
• Biology and Chemistry Before AP Chemistry or AP Biology
Where to Begin?
• Ask Teachers about Electives that Interest Them
• Keep Track of Graduation Requirements
• Think About their Post-Grad Plan and Goals
• Discuss Options with Parents/Guardian(s)
• Review Their Transcript

Rigorous Coursework
• CollegeBoard in New York, NY.
• Courses are one level – AP - Phase 6
• External Exam is scored 1-5
• College Credit is possible
• AP Courses tend to focus intensely in one subject area. Breadth of learning is the focus.
• Students can become an AP Scholar if they score a 3 or higher on 3 or more AP Exams.
• International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) in Cardiff, Wales.
• Courses are offered in Standard Level (SL) Phase 5 or Higher Level (HL) Phase 6
• External Exam is scored 1-7
• College Credit and/or Advanced standing are possible
• IB courses take a more holistic approach. Courses are inquiry based where learning is viewed as a journey. Depth of knowledge and independent thought, as well as critical thinking are all key components to the learning process.
• Students can earn an IB Diploma (3 HL & 3 SL courses and Theory of Knowledge), CAS & Extended Essay

Innovation Pathways connect student learning to a broadly-defined industry sector that is in demand in the regional and state economy, and guide students to relevant post-secondary education and training. Participation in this kind of pathway contextualizes student learning, engages students in their high school experience, and can lead students to opportunities for meaningful careers in the relevant industry sector upon their completion of needed postsecondary education and training.

Courses listed as a ‘Primary’ request should not also be listed as an ‘Alternate’
Click the box next to the classes you would like to choose –Just uncheck if you change your mind –Then click ‘OK’ when you’re done
Double Check & Done!-Scroll up to the top and make sure you have 37.5 credits
-Make sure a course is not listed as a primary and alternate
-Courses are requested in ‘real time’ - what is on the screen when you log out will be there when you log back in.
-Make as many changes as you want with final choices entered by Friday, February 26, 2021.
